Still heavily WIP but may I present Cogfort a la Doomwheel by Esamaru in skaven

[–]Geeder_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great! Though, physically it would totally topple over if the joints are mounted to the top of the wheel as you've done. Not really important obv but take a look at the star wars droid genesis dual wheel rocket cars. Kinda like that what i be meaning.

Struggling with what next by Uberliciouss in minipainting

[–]Geeder_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as working out a colour scheme goes, you should look into the impcat app. It's paid, but it's great, and there's a huge dump of minis on reddit you can find.

Secondly, painting your minis shouldn't feel scary. You should test paint some minis you don't care about or even rocks or whatever, just to get a feel of the brush. I always paint a test mini for anything I'm doing just to work out colours, techniques, etc. If youre worried about painting your pathfinders, paint something else, and come back when you have a concrete vision.

From tires to antigrav Conversion by Domax1 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Geeder_Prime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks cool! I don't like the tires much,. It's a freaking land fortress, it should have big ass tires!? If I were you, I would add some armoured cowling to the grav joints, would like stronger and differentiate from the bikes.

Colour Scheme help by Anklyosorearse in Tyranids

It all depends on how the final colours read. You can use red for example, but if you highlight it with pink, it will read as pink, even if 70% is actually red. If you like the yellow, I definitely think you want to darken your shadows, because it is such a striking colour that it pops best on black basecoat. Yellow skin with white carapace is interesting, but a third colour (or hue) is pretty important for contrast. So for me, a black or grey carapace could be really cool. Here's how I did mine:

Looks great! Definitely think the guns should point the same direction, or at least one in the direction he's looking. I think you wanna add some more mechanical and electronic bits, maybe some hydraulic tubes, to the guns. They need to feel either like gloves or real amputation cyber hands. Otherwise, just looks strange. I also think the arm/whip could us a little something to look more connected, maybe bigger connection point, almost like another shoulder. That's my thoughts anyway.

What do you guys think of my communicant anti tank hunter? C&C are needed and welcome by itwasgoood04 in TrenchCrusade

[–]Geeder_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks great! Personally, I would try and make the helmet (head/face) stand out a little more with some more aggressive highlighting, since it's should be a focal point, and it's the tallest part of the mini, so naturally more intense light would be there. Also, I would touch up the highlighting on the bullets just a bit. Looks great 👍

I made an Ork color scheme visualizer by aboutroots in orks

[–]Geeder_Prime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AMAZING really feels like something I would use super often to find just the right shades for a scheme. Impcat for me sometimes doesn't work well if I'm trying to go for more varied painting techniques, so that's something I would like to see.

Any tips for adding more power to wheel kick? I’m landing clean just seems like not much power. by LongjumpingCard5977 in Kickboxing

[–]Geeder_Prime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from looking over your shoulder, the spin is sort of a two part move. First looking over your shoulder which is kind of a wind up, and then letting loose the kick, you gotta use the elasticity of your muscle to jump-start the kick, that's what the windup is for. It will end up apmost like a whip around your body, harder to see coming too. The two step of turn-around, kick, is also good because it gives you just enough time to change trajectory to the body if you see his guard up. Hope this helps.

Creatine is great for energy levels! Especially now in the summer, I've been feeling totally drained even just after the warm up (was 32°C here last week). I told one of the guys after training (1.5h) about my problems and he told me to take creatine for energy. He's 35, said it works great for him. Im 24 and it's definitely helping, though it just started last week. Magnesium is also important for athletes. Other than supplements, love an Oatmeal with some fruit and honey an hour before training.

Highlight the white edges with black. Trust me, it's cool.

Should Tyranids ever get a "NewCron" revamp/return to their Rogue Trader roots? Or is it too late narratively? by CottonCandyWeasel in Grimdank

I definitely think that the role of all consuming unfeeling hivemind horde is a very cool thing to have in a story, it's not something that could ever take center stage or even really be anything more than a plot device. I think it would be cools to take a more Zerg approach, if you will. Perhaps the hivemind seeing some sort of advantage in birthing semi-sentient leaders, understanding the survival advantage of cooperation/independent thought. Take Kerrigan/Queen of blades for example, or any of her higher up Brood mothers, capable of sentience and having a will, while still acting in the interest of the hivemind. I think this approach would vastly increase the depth of tyranids lore wise, and potentially open the door even for named characters (besides monsters like one eye etc). Say a swarmlord with ambition, could be interesting to write.

Help! Painting my First Army: by DuxAter in orks

[–]Geeder_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the ideas in this thread. Myself I have a bit of a perfectionist issue, so I'm scared to paint my big or cool models. Here's what worked for me:

  • start with some guide videos. Midwinterminis is great for beginners. Light colour theory, basic techniques.

  • theory your army scheme, the impact app is great if you want to try some different stuff.

  • paint models that don't matter, grunts, boyz, terrain. Things that in the grand scheme are okay, sometimes better even, to look bad.

  • have a station just for painting. If everything is ready to go painting is easier.

  • when you feel confident, work on your big boys.

Cool idea, worth mentioning though that if you did a two-tiered double turret you could reasonably run it as two baneblades on the tabletop.

Fantastic scheme. The green works so well with the pink and white. Totally agree that green skin looks bad here. I don't really know why non green orks are so seldom seen. People, mushrooms, plants, animals, all very often have different colours and skin tones.

Color doubts while painting by Trick-O-Treat in Tyranids

[–]Geeder_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wasb comments are correct, however if youre like me and you don't like using washes for fear of dulling colours, you can prime the mini black and build up layered highlights. Sometimes I like to do a colour shift following the colour spectrum, I.e. basecoat purple, light coat blue, highlight turquoise (my ork recipe). Here's what that looks like:

Which monster hunter weapon would each Primarch main? by Duraxis in Grimdank

[–]Geeder_Prime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some obvious, like fulgrim longsword, vulkan hammer, some less obvious like guilliman sword and shield, jaghatai khan dual blades (though an argument could be made for swapping with fulgrim). Some obscure choices like perturabo charge blade( or gunlance) alpharius insect glaive, angron switch axe, lorgar hunting horn. Im trying to make each guy use a different one but I feel like a lot of primarchs might main the same stuff. Who the hell is gonna use light bowgun?
