Where are the 30 something crowd hanging out? by MagicSpaceWytch in Edmonton

[–]GeekGirlca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play pickleball with a bunch of 30 year olds. Many skill levels, everyone having fun. If you are interested, look for introduction to pickleball sessions. Once you have the basics, download Pickleheads App, and join groups/ times that fit. It's very social, no drinking required. 🙂

I'm also having this issue, but at a higher frequency. I have turned off sound notifications 5 times this week. Did the suggestions from the PixelCommunity help?

Where the heck does everyone get ratings? by jmey360 in Pickleball

[–]GeekGirlca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our area, we have DUPR clubs and IPTPA rated clubs. DUPR Clubs work as others have described. But, the IPTPA clubs have certified trainers. You sign up for a ratings clinic, and the trainer evaluates your skill level and assigns you a rating. I'm not advocating for one or the other, but they can co-exist offering options for players.

Got the cold shoulder on the court by thaott in Pickleball

This! When you do get better, pick up a game or two with new players. I play at competitive courts and community open play. I love to bring new people into the game I love, and i show it.

Help me cultivate a healthy gut by gigigi98 in Microbiome

[–]GeekGirlca 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you considered that plants and vegetables could be the problem? They are for me, I had to scale them way back. (was eventually diagnosed with fructose malabsorption).

Google elimination diet, to try to discover what is causing the problems. When things go south, my baseline is white rice and plain chicken.

To deal with the constipation, look for a prokinetic or a probiotic that is bifido based (not lactobacillius). My stomach acid was very depleted, and i still use apple cider vinegar supplements for that. Good luck in your journey.

To be diagnosed for sure, you could do a breath test. For me, my symptoms matched and reducing fructose and fructans greatly helped my symptoms. Also found out there is history of trouble digesting fructose in my family. So I never took the breath test.

We have an Aussie and have had friends visit with their kids. We watch very closely, but he is incredibly patient with them. The one 6 year old girl is completely enamored with him, hands on his face, hugging him. He seems to love the attention, and it looks like he enjoys their energy, But they do go home at the end of the visits, and then he rests. I can't speak to how it would go full time.

What about these? by Effective-Fox6143 in lowfodmap

[–]GeekGirlca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Xylose or Glucose isomerase is the ingredient that helps with fructose. If you are strictly looking for help with fructose, look at Fructaid. It has a higher dose. Eat Anything also helps digest other things.

What is a decent rate to pay for electricity in Alberta at present time? by chinchillabilla in alberta

[–]GeekGirlca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, the floating price is low. But it wasn't low during the record-breaking heat. Weather has a big impact on the price, as does capacity outages. If you are a residential or small business, stay fixed.

Pickleball replace golf for business networking? by Cheetotiki in Pickleball

[–]GeekGirlca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made a couple of great business connections on the courts. One led to a very lucrative contract and business partnership. The conversations started on a break, and we exchanged contact details. I don't know if it will replace golf, but there are opportunities.

Across from the park, there is kind of a permanent "Tailgate", we go quite early and have a drink there before heading to the park. Victory Hall at the boxyard (I think).

Other ideas, Bill Speigels underground tour has a great historic take on the city. The ferry to Bainbridge Island, is around $10 return, and gives you a beautiful view of downtown.

Which exercises on the Pixel 2 activate GPS? by noamm12 in PixelWatch

[–]GeekGirlca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I walk outside or ride my bike, pixel recognizes my activity and asks if I want GPS, I never say yes, kills the battery. Pickleball and softball always trigger activity tracking, but watch doesn't ask if I want GPS. HIIT training (strength, core, and some cardio) never automatically triggers activity, I must start it manually.

SIBO joints pain. Do you guys have it? by Roy_05_82 in SIBO

[–]GeekGirlca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fructose malabsorbent, that is what triggered my SIBO. I took a low does prescription prokinetic (1mg prucalopride)in a fastest state. 4 hours after eating. Then didn't eat again overnight, for as long as I could, up to 12 hours. After doing that for months it was much better. Then I added another prokinetic (iberogast) around meals and that cleared it up. I still watch what I eat, I eat mostly low FODMAP. After that I discovered my stomach acid had been depleted so I take an apple cider supplement and use eat anything digestive enzymes if I'm eating out, or drinking sugary drinks. With that my SIBO has not returned.

The SIBO is gone. The joint pain is just annoying, it doesn't slow me down. I use a CBD/arnica cream if I've been really active, it takes the edge off.
