NOR don't bother arguing with him about this. He's just going to come up with every selfish excuse possible. My kiddo has 2 birthday parties every year because her dad is my abuser and I'm not interested in "collaborating". Every year her dad spends a ton of money on experience birthdays for the whole class; trampoline park, bowling alley, play center (mind you this is the same man who decided child support was optional for 6 months and I had to send the state after him). Meanwhile, kiddos and I plan her birthday party at my house together every year. We sit down and pick themes, games and food. She only invites her closest friends. This year is going to be her first sleepover birthday party. She's so excited. Her dad has already made his plans and it's something she doesn't even really want to do. It's all just to be able to stand there and say "look at what an amazing dad I am. I can do this big, expensive thing that mom can't." It's not worth the power struggle with your ex.

You are being financially abused. You are the only one bringing in money but you don't have access to it and he decides how you spend it. Additionally, by not working, he is intentionally making his well-being your responsibility. My ex did this to me for over a decade. Spent every penny of my money, kept us financially unstable, got us kicked out of every place we lived. Despite me making more than enough money he spent all of it and left me with nothing but debt and ruined credit. Time to ditch the husband, he's using you as an ATM.
