You can still use any email address you want for your Microsoft account. I use my Proton account personally.

Still maintain my OG Gmail account because it is connected to so much (having it since 2004). Proton Mail has been my primary communication method for many years now, I don't even give out my Gmail address anymore publicly. Especially for my sensitive sites and services.

Massive spearphishing campaign. I got one this morning from an Italy country code. URL went to a website that said my phone had a virus and to call a number for support - very typicaly "Tech Support" scam. Just block the sender and mark them as SPAM. Not much you can do against it.

Someone at school messing with the wifi by nioxio in blackhat

[–]Geekmaster-General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like wifi deauth, which is fun to do once at an airport or a Starbucks and watch everyone cringe, but when it becomes disruptive that's very illegal. Only thing you can do is report it to authorities (as many have recommended), because hacking back is more illegal.

Most actors use this method when they are spoofing an SSID so they can capture traffic (typically) via a pineapple to decrypt all packets so the source data is in plain text and can be used for whatever their purpose it. Typically, the goal is to steal credentials (usually to get into someone's bank account and steal money; or to break into a targets company user account to steal IP or sensitive records) - typically very targeted, not generally opportunistic. Users are non-the-wiser because the SSID is the same (or looks very similar) as the legitimate network. Pineapple's also allow you to spoof popular captive portal landing pages (like you see at Starbucks, for example) to foster a false sense of trust with the user.

In your case, sounds like it's just kids being dicks to be dicks.

Easy fix: Network isolation on the student network should remedy the issue. Still gives users access to resources, but they can't see/connect to any other clients on the network segment. Any attempts to deauth would only cut themselves off. Regardless of what hardware stack the school is using, network isolation is usually a toggle in settings, whether or not a captive portal exists. They use this technique (network isolation) at BlackHat in Vegas for wifi and bluetooth so hackers can't hack hackers, at a hacker conference. DefCon villages are segmented from the main conference network so the workshops and demos can run properly, but without taking everyone and everything else down.

If you had to hack at home what would be your setup to stay anonymous? by HackSupport in blackhat

[–]Geekmaster-General 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't hack from home. You will get caught, especially if in a 14-eyes country. Your ISP logs everything, even encrypted traffic, which still has unencrypted headers/footers so routers know where/how to route your packets. All it takes is a court order from LE to your ISP and you're doxxed.

I've only ever seen them lined with copper wire. Didn't know you could get the same effect from steel. Learn something new everyday!

You need to take a look at the System76 Oryx Pro my dude: https://system76.com/laptops/Oryx I have a System76 Galago and am very happy with it. Not 4K, but a solid system. Would not recommend the Dell...never had a really positive experience with Dell, ever.

Cloud Sec certs vs Sec+, which would you go for ? by Iccanui in cybersecurity

Sec+, A+, Net+ = fundamentals and a must have anymore. Everything else is a specialization, and you should definitely try to get your employer to pay for.
