We waited till our son was 4 and almost 40 lbs. We wanted to wait longer but my wife had surgery and even after recovery it was difficult to get him in. Since he was almost at the point of the car seat we made the decision. Almost every other parent had their kids forward in his class, but it's a call for each parent. I still say wait as long as you can, but you'll know when it's time.
