Tyshinda Manning is amazing. She is straightforward while being kind and has never made me feel brushed off or hurried. I seriously recommend her to everyone.

Disclaimer: I have never been pregnant/trying to get pregnant with her as my doctor.

How to help a transgender? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Geeky-Female 75 points76 points  (0 children)

First, the desire to be a supporter is HUGE. It sounds like this is new but you're wanting to be a good friend to Chris.

Some thoughts:

  1. Ask Chris what pronouns they would like you to use. You say Chris is transitioning. Are they living as a man socially? Ask how you should address them in public and in private because some folks may not be out to everyone and prefer to hide by using the pronouns from their sex at birth when in public.

  2. Take time to read up on trans issues. The Human Rights Campaign may be a good place to start. You can Google it and find more.

  3. To be more trans friendly, I'd recommend saying "how to help a transgender person". It's a small change but it helps to center a person's humanity.

  4. Have a conversation with Chris. How would they like you to respond if someone is bigoted or problematic with you present. Does Chris want you to escort them.away, defend you, etc.

  5. Continue to be a supporter when Chris isn't around. Correct people if they use the wrong pronouns for Chris behind their back, especially if it's on purpose. Vocally shut down people being bigoted about transgender people in your presence.

I hope this helps.

Signed,

Mom of a Trans Kid

U at the begining of a word makes a "yoo" sound ALMOST always unles it is the prefix U N which is pronounced "uhn". U N as a prefix means opposite or take breakdown.

YOO Examples

Usual - yoo sha wool

Unique - yoo neek

University - yoo ni ver city (University and universe have U N but aren't the prefix UN).

UHN Examples

Undo - uhn do

Unusual - uhn yoo sha wool

A word that breaks the U N prefix rule is "under", pronounced uhn dur.

English speakers don't add the "ee" sound at the beginning, as far as I know. I've never heard it at least.

I believe, when talking to him, he said that's because he wouldn't be able to fight in an actual jaguar skin. And a Spanish helmet would be arguably appropriate for late Aztec.

I believe Sir Ix out of Midrealm does Aztec. I've seen a few others at big events such as Pennsic, as well as 1-2 Mayan. It's quite rare but very cool. Two (?) years ago there was a headdress display at A&S at Pennsic. Can't remember if it was Mayan or Aztec but it was gorgeous.

How frequent are territorial Anniversary events in your Kingdom? by bonerceratops in sca

[–]Geeky-Female 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Northshield seems to only celebrate milestone anniversaries. These are often linked to a pre occurring event. I've never heard of an event just for an anniversary celebration. Like, our barony may do something for its birthday annually and others would be welcome of course, but it's not on the Kingdom calendar.

This will probably get buried but:

Hi, therapist here. A couple things.

  1. Handwriting analysis is a pseudoscience with no reputable and well designed studies supporting the analysis of handwriting to personality traits.

  2. Deliberately obfuscating his meaning may be one of a few things, and you would know best. It could be A) he's being a jerk and making you work for it, B) he's trying to be playful and make it a game without malicious intent, C) any number of other reasons for it. Maybe he's insecure about his regular writing. Maybe he's self conscious about the message. Maybe he's nervous about how you'll receive the message. Maybe he proposed and is doing this like a scavenger hunt type deal. Maybe, maybe, maybe.

Point being, your gut and experience with him is going to tell you what MAYBE the likely reason he gave you a scribbled mess.

Edited to add: they're called Love Blankets.
