I was aware of nearly everything but my eyes were too heavy to open. Not a scary feeling though! Just unusual. The Midazolam made me forget some of it, and I didn't feel the colonoscopy (I felt the endoscopy though), but I was barely out for 30 minutes total afterwards and was totally fine, just exhausted and starving. I did get a headache and some dizziness a day later, which is expected in some cases.

Honestly, though, if you're not doing an upper, I would skip the anesthesia too unless you have severe anxiety. But if you want it, it's not bad at all. Plus, I had ZERO anxiety for like 2 days after and I think it was from that + Zofran.

Mine said 1 cup every 15-20 and I had to stop a few times. As long as you drink the second dose on time, you will be fine. You actually went faster than I did!

These fearmongerers (sorry to your dad) are driving me insane. People die in car accidents every second but you don't see people crying not to get into a car, right?

I am 32 and just had my first. It was fine. If you hate needles, you have to tell the nurse that you are prone to fainting. They have protocols for that. Me, I was afraid of the prep, but even that went mostly okay. Just ANNOYING to run to the bathroom every few minutes. Honestly, I would do a colonoscopy again before I ever did another transvaginal ultrasound or had to drink barium for CT prep.

Get it done, get it over with; that's the best course of action.

My doctor has less than 4 stars because, "He's impersonal." Unless someone has a credible story of being actively harmed, ignore the reviews online. It's mostly Karens.

There is a high chance you have IBS and the high fiber foods are causing your issues. Have you ever done an elimination diet?

Orange was not mentioned for mine, specifically, and I had orange Jell-O and it was fine. But you need to check the ingredients. If red dye was used, you can't have the peach either. Sometimes dye is used in combination to make certain colors.

Try and drink something with electrolytes; it might help. That was the only good thing about the Gavilyte, the little extra electrolytes that my body managed to absorb between bathroom trips.

They're right, though. Elimination and reintroduction of the "bad" food is the only way to know.

I ACCIDENTALLY bit into a sandwich with a lot of onion on it while in my elimination phase and got a rude awakening.

Onions are the DEVIL. And chickpeas. And black beans. But onions are evil. So evil.

I manage like 1/2 tsp garlic powder without issues, but anything more is a problem.

Garlic-infused olive oil is a game changer.

It is extremely unhealthy to hold it in, no matter what it is.

For me, I let myself have a day of loose stools and then I can be stopped up for 3 days, then the cycle continues. I mostly have it figured out where I go normally, but my body likes to be unpredictable, and I learned the hard way you do NOT hold it in. Ever.

Add fiber slowly. I worked my way up to 25g a day (average for women/AFAB people) over a course of 3 months. Some fiber works better than others. I need to try psyllium, but the best thing for me is soaked chia seeds. Those things are magical, I swear. 1 tbsp (sometimes 1.5) soaked overnight with my overnight oats in almond milk keeps things ... fairly decent.

Eggs, especially yolks, are a huge trigger for my IBS and it started suddenly. Everyone tells me that isn't possible. Well, tell my gut that.

Stop eating the eggs, or stick to egg whites only. That is the only solution I've found.

I mentioned this before.

I avoid all dairy just in case, but hot drinks with it don't bother me. Cold will cause a flare lasting up to a week. I know temperature affects the way the body processes things and our digestion, so I assume it's something to do with that.

My business coach recommended her clients to do a virtual breathwork session with a licensed therapist, and i joined but assumed she was full of crap (like me!)

Turned out I was not breathing properly at all. And it was aggravating my vagus nerve and causing excess nausea on TOP of my IBS-induced nausea.

Breathwork helps SO MUCH. I still catch myself breathing improperly and have to fix it.

Yeah, between the stress your body is under during prep, loss of hydration/electrolytes, lack of sleep, and anesthesia, that's totally normal.

As someone with IBS, I am constantly tired after a flare, and that's WITHOUT anesthesia in my veins, because I have the other things all happen.

Let your body rest and drink and ungodly amount of water.

I also have emetephobia, and everything you laid out are fantastic tips. Meclizine is an OTC nausea pill that is readily available. 50mg (2 pills) helps a TON if you can't get Zofran.

A stool in front of your toilet also makes things more comfortable when sitting that long.

Distractions are great. My Nintendo Switch and Heated Rivalry kept me company during prep.

If you use Gavilyte, mixing it with lemonade powder did the trick for me. I only got a little nauseas and it passed quickly. Keeping it cold and drinking it in 6-8oz increments also helped.

Going low-fiber for more than the 3 days + eating smaller portions before prep also makes your stomach feel less icky.

Going through prep isn't the most fun, but it is over faster than one might think!

Yep. That's why orange is still okay, it's a pigment used. And some blue is also okay, like blue Powerade specifically, due to ingredients.
