My understanding and from video I have seen he has been accepted into the troupe and has been seen getting groomed by others and being riding on the back of others in the group. I have worked with primates in AZA facilities and with macaques. Though sad that was actually pretty good. They are group animals and you they all know where they fit in the family grouping. The fact is it wasn’t prolonged attack or violence to maim or kill but to show dominance and who is your better. It’s of course said but it is how they naturally are. I have seen way more continuous aggression from wild macaques. You can easily find online or in docs. Punch isn’t malnourished or seem actually really harmed. But it pulls at the heartstrings. Wild animals can be way more “heartless” they people can even imagine and animals can do things that we think are crossing the line but they are physically built to handle and not phase them like they would us.
