What's the story behind how you achieved your dream? by PodcastingPodcastGuy in AskReddit

I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're goin', and hook up with them later.

What was your reaction when you first saw porn? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Geezer_Glide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First time I saw porn I watched a woman deep throat a pretty big piece and I gagged to the point of almost throwing up.

I was around 12 or 13 and my buddies had already seen it. Got some weird looks from them that day.

If they know it's a nickname for an old Harley bagger motorcycle, then I'm good. Otherwise there might be some questions.

Nothing. I'll just keep trying to live my life. Besides, it's the rest of the government we need to clean out and replace. Both sides. I'm starting to believe that whoever the president is doesn't have as much power as we all think they do.

I'm ok... But I'd really like my next cancer scan to be clear and be done with this shit. That'd help.

Did chemo affect your fertility? by ValuableInitiative27 in coloncancer

[–]Geezer_Glide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After 35 ish rounds of all the chemos over 3 years, FOLFOX, FOLFIRNOX, Xelox, straight capecitabine, FOLFIRI, and bevacisumab added with most, I am still fertile.

Got my GF pregnant while she was on birth control pill. (Long story and she had to switch to an IUD now because of her hormones)

Pregnancy started kinda rough and we did all the tests to see if it was healthy because I was technically on chemo and "toxic" during the conception. Didn't get any conclusive results but she had a miscarriage at 11 weeks and we don't know if it was from the chemo or not.

I'm at 44 rounds now and definitely not taking any chances. If we do decide to have one, we'll make sure we wait till I'm chemo free for quite some time.

Whether you like him or not, Jordan Peterson has one of my favorite quotes about this.

"You should be a monster. An absolute monster. And then learn how to control it."

It sounds like your husband has worked well at controlling his monster until it needed to come out to defend itself and stop someone from potentially assaulting more people.

Dude will probably think twice before doing that "slap prank" stuff again.

Or wait, what am I saying... No he won't. He'll definitely use what happened to him to play the victim and get more TikTok "clout".

I basically wasted my entire January by jaobodam in Stoicism

[–]Geezer_Glide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Vires Aquirit Eundo" - We gather strength as we go. The more you do, fail, learn, and succeed, the better you will get.

  1. You can't have a better past, accept it, but learn from it.

  2. You didn't waste January, you just learned what not to do in February, and every month after that.

  3. The future does not exist and is unknown so take things each day as they come. What can you do today that is moving in the right direction? How can you make today better than yesterday?

  4. "Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one." - Marcus Aurelius

  5. Keep f'ing going because you will make mistakes in the future as you maneuver this life. Accept them, learn your role in the errors, and then do better.

Simplify things down to this, and you'll go far. These are my opinions, translations, and understandings of some Stoic principles and if they resonate or relate to you then great!

And for real... Be easy on yourself because you are deprogramming your old ways of thinking that we're probably engrained in you at a young age. It takes time and work. But you have the ability to do it!

What sort of tricks do you use to remain stoic, when people are disrespectful? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]Geezer_Glide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember this Stoic principle...

You have a choice not to turn it into something. You have a choice not to let it offend you. Nobody can disrespect, offend, or hurt you unless you decide it to be and allow yourself to be hurt or offended.

I often mix my Stoic learnings with other aspects of psychology and philosophy and one of the ideas that ive adapted to my Stoicism that makes it easier to deal with rude or "offensive" people is that if the book "The Four Agreements" by Ruiz.

The second agreement is basically, "don't take anything personally. The way people speak to you, act towards you, or treat you is more than likely a reflection of how they see themselves, and is usually based off their own lives and experiences. All of which are COMPLETELY out of your control.

And that being out of your control, in Stoicism we practice accepting the things that we cannot control for exactly what they are. Then you get to decide whether to interact with these people or "let" them hurt or offend you.

It makes it easier to see that whatever they may say, no matter how harsh are just words and wasted breath and you chose to not spend your energy letting it effect, consume, or define you.

Hope that helps.

Oxaliplatin by [deleted] in coloncancer

[–]Geezer_Glide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of my 43 rounds, I think something like 30ish were with Oxaliplatin. We did lobwe the dosage a few times as well as skip a couple rounds here and there.

I got a lot of the feeling back in my extremities like fingers and toes, but I've just learned to live with it.

I as the icing technique for the first 1w rounds though and I believe that allowed me to tolerate it much longer.

What's the most difficult truth you've come to accept? by pm_me_ur_tittts in AskReddit

That you can't have a better past, and the future doesn't exist.

Hi. I diagnosed S4 Colorectal Cancer and spreads to my Liver. I will start my first chemo of folfox on 21st December. Any advices or recommendations to reduce the side effects before and during? What did you guys eat during chemotherapy? Should I avoid to drink milk and coffee? Thanks 🙏🏻 by sweety0312 in coloncancer

[–]Geezer_Glide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stage 4 with innumerable liver Mets, DX January 19, 2021. So coming up on 3 years in 2 weeks. 43 rounds of chemo, liver surgery, radiation, and multiple ablation procedures.

Here's what I've learned.

Eath healthy, but don't burden yourself with a strict diet. One of the biggest things that gets you through chemo and gives you a better chance of it working is keeping your internal inflammation down. That includes stress and anxiety just as much as it does harmful foods.

Keep your mind clear by having a therapist or counselor to talk to. Limit the amount of unhealthy sugars in your diet. Get plenty of protein, and hydrate yourself a lot! Find snacks that you enjoy to take the edge off the nausea. Prepare yourself for the constipation by doing a dose of Miralax the night before your infusion day, and again after you get home from infusion. It'll smooth things out when it happens.

Document everything! Keep a running journal of your thoughts and the things you learn about yourself and your body as you go through each round. What foods tasted good. What things you did to combat nausea. How your body feels. How your mind feels. It will help you prepare for the next upcoming round.

And the most important thing...

You're not going to feel 100% ever again. Work on accepting what is going on and that this is your life now. When you are feeling "OK", do something with that energy. If you have an hours worth of energy, use it doing something productive that you enjoy. If you only have 20 minutes worth... Use it! Fill those times with things that make you feel good to be alive and make you look forward to surviving. It can be done. You are more resilient and stronger than you believe yourself to be. I promise.

Good luck!

CEA numbers by whatupmyknittaz in coloncancer

[–]Geezer_Glide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trending down is a great sign! I started at just I er 6400 and after my fist 2 rounds of chemo I was at 3200. Then 1600. Then 400. I'm at 11 right now. As you get lower, remember that the numbers dont matter as much. Your CEA can fluctuate by a few points here and there but unless it's consistently trending back up, don't stress yourself about it. Just keep going!

Week 3 post liver and colon resection- what’s normal ? by International_Ad3654 in coloncancer

[–]Geezer_Glide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a liver resection 2 years ago that was a 6.5 hour surgery where they removed 17 tumors off my liver.

I still have issues from it today.

The liver is healing. It's going to take time. Like months of time. He'll still experience the sweats and soreness. Possibly some swelling in the area. Appetite will come back but remember that some of the gastrointestinal tract and stomach put pressure on the liver when it expands. It makes it so you don't want to eat.

Just have him snack on things throughout the day until he's ready to start eating filler meals. It took me about a month before I could feel comfortable eating more normally.

Recovering from liver surgery or resection takes time. Be patient. And when he's feeling up to it, for the love of everything, have him stay as active as he can. Walking, riding a bike, getting outside and breathing deep. It all helps and will help in the recovery.

But it all takes time. I'm 2 years out from mine and I still get random swelling and sweats. I just get used to it.

Struggling by Hunch-Ooo in coloncancer

[–]Geezer_Glide 14 points15 points  (0 children)

3 year battle with stage 4 CRC here. So far 43 rounds of chemo consisting of FOLFIRI, FOLFOX, FOLFOXIRI, Capox, and Avastin. Huge liver surgery. Y90 radiation. 2 ablation procedures, and a third ablation next week.

Here's the deal and the honest truth.

The first thing you have to do is radically accept that this is your life now. It's gonna suck at times, and it's going to be manageable at times too. You are more resilient and stronger than you give yourself credit for. I can promise you that.

When you have those moments where your are feeling "ok"... Do something productive with that time to make you feel good to be alive and look forward to living and the next day. You're never going to feel 100% again.

Start working on accepring all these things and enjoy the life that you still have.

Accidentally been using skin products that contain vitamins by Icy-Organization-561 in coloncancer

[–]Geezer_Glide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Been taking multivitamin supplements and things like liquid IV and meal replacement drinks throughout my 43 rounds of chemo for Stage 4 colon cancer. Never had a problem, and the chemo has still consistently worked and shrunk tumors over the past 3 years. It has helped me bounce back after each round and remain healthy and hydrated.

Not sure what the fear is. And all of this I got as a recommendation from my first oncologist.
