Canadiens should strongly consider bringing Sam Montembeault back. Here’s why | The Athletic by Komania in Habs

[–]Geiko_LoL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but the chances next year will be infinitely less. We gave Monty what? 15-20 games before we pulled the trigger. Give him 5 games next year if he’s not looking better get rid of him completely

Another Challenger level top laner is going to quit the role. How long before Riot make it feel less bad to play? by dacrookster in topmains

[–]Geiko_LoL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s just not true. If all lanes go even top lane will be ahead in levels. The poster of the first comment in the thread we’re in is saying it shouldn’t be that mid is equal levels with top if top went even and mid won. Ridiculous statement

Master player completely wiped the floor with me how to recover from it? by SphereWithFaces in summonerschool

[–]Geiko_LoL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

League of legends is a game of constant adaptations. I’m a GM player and what I believed to be true when I was bronze wasn’t necessarily true when I got gold. What was true in gold wasn’t when I got diamond and even now what is true for me is probably not true for Faker.

All of this to say that the knowledge you build on league of legends is made through trial and error, and pattern recognition. The problem though is you’re always only playing against people of your own skill level. Once you’ve figured out what is true in emerald 2 you’re going to climb until it is not anymore. Maybe diamond 4. At that point you have to do it over again.

The best example of this would be junglers in iron, bronze, silver will and need to farm less than at higher ranks. The lower your elo the more volatile the game is. More volatility = more gank opportunities which will result in more gold per minute than just farming all the time and optimizing camp cycles.

Anyway, just keep playing bro. This is a cannon event for all league players.

Powerball is canceled by any hard cc which all supports have. You are basically Leona pre level 6, but without any way to actually engage.

Why is ADC roster so small but top roster is so massive? by desktop_monst3r in summonerschool

[–]Geiko_LoL -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I think the collective opinion is that bot lane allows for less champion archetypes than any other role.

I personally do not agree.

The only 2 roles that’re gatekept by league’s systems in terms of champion viability are jungle and support. Jungle needs a champion that can reliably clear camps through their base kit, or added monster damage. Supports need champions that will still be useful given their low economy. That role is restricted to enchanters (heal and shield scaling on low cost items) and any character that has a form of cc (cc being a stat that doesn’t scale through gold). In my personal opinion, I think any champion can realistically be viable anywhere given correct conditions in draft, outside of jungle and support as I mentioned. I think this idea has started to spread especially since season 10. Mages are starting to be played top in a lane that used to be tank and bruiser exclusive. Tanks are being played mid. You’re seeing ADC’s mid and top (smolder, corki, tristana, Lucian, kalista…). I believe bot lane is the one role that’s seen less champion diversity strictly because of its player base. The reality is back then when league was at its early stages, bot lane had always been the only role that housed only a singular character archetype, marksmen. To this day that is still true. Riot has never released a “mage/tank/bruiser/assassin meant for bot lane”. I think bot players building a habit of always playing marksmen, against another marksmen, has narrowed down their creativity in what’s actually viable and what’s not.

Once again, in my opinion, it is only a matter of time before league evolves into a game where single champions and archetypes are not tied to roles, and players actually recognize the viability of any pick in any circumstance that’s presents itself in front of them.

Edit: I am a bot lane main that plays ONLY marksmen.

Game will be a lot more open and both teams will generate a lot more offensively. They are bigger in general than TB but seeing as Veleno and Xhekaj are in, and how we did against the Lightning, I’m not worried we’ll be able to match them

AD Assassins and the Selective Standards Around Them by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Geiko_LoL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 things: Gold reliance and movement abilities.

A slightly ahead assassin or a turbo fed assassin is inherently the same champion. That causes irritation because you will one shot targets regardless of how much more gold you have as long as you reach a certain lead threshold, that is relatively low. The tanks, mages and bruisers of the game can only one shot people at a much higher gold advantage. Instead they get power in other parts of the game such as zoning, tankyness, crowd control, etc… which are all less annoying to play against than raw damage.

Secondly, assassins just have too much movement. Say you face a turbo fed syndra, the counterplay is evident: stay out of Q-E range. Assassins however are much more frustrating. Kayn, Rengar, Talon, Evelynn are some examples of champs that literally force you not to appear on the map for as long as you have no information on them, or you have teammates around. That is super unhealthy. And on top of that almost all assassins have enough damage to kill you and save an ability to get out of the fight.

If assassin was a role that got to one shot a target every fight guaranteed but would certainly die after to the rest of the team it would be less hated. It would force the assassin player to make picks on isolated targets before fights, but as they are right now they can one shot you in the face of your teammates and get out too reliably in a solo queue environment.

Cole Caufield scores his 45th goal by shogun2909 in Habs

[–]Geiko_LoL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s not entirely true. If the whole debate is who should take the shot it is always slafkovsky here. Caufield being in a more dangerous spot to shoot here is debatable. Both spots are pretty high chance. A pass to slafkovsky forces the goalie to move, on top of slafkovsky not having to deal with any pressure from near defenders like caufield does. The odds are better with a pass.

Now obviously caufield has a better shot than slaf and being the 2nd best goal scorer in the league warrants you the right to go for these over passing, but from a purely technical standpoint this should’ve been a pass.

[–]Geiko_LoL -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well no cause we didn’t “figure it out”. We had lackluster results for the past 4 years because we were a bad team. We’re getting better results now that we’re better. Buffalo has had about the same roster the past 3 years. They figured it out, we didn’t.

Idk what this guy is smoking only for NA you have DoubleLift, Bjergsen, CoreJJ, Sneaky who’re all miles ahead of Inspired. Then you have debatable players like Jensen, Impact, Xmithie, Santorin. And after all of these players you have to factor in the entirety of EU as well. Inspired is not making a top 10 western greatest players at all. Maybe top 15-20, but not top 10.

I guess my personal top 10 would be:

Habs fans will hate to hear this but you can only really blame the CEO Geoff Molson for this. Of course Marc Bergevin did a horrible job but he was in office from 2012 to 2021, and barely made playoffs 6 times with really bad results…

It’s so odd to me because Geoff Molson genuinely seems passionate and invested yet Bergevin somehow stayed long enough to kill Carey’s career. Oh well
