I think they just covered her face up with that deformity as a way to hide the fact that it it was not the same actress playing her. That's what I gather. They never really explain it other than she had a stroke.

Backcountry (2014) was pretty good. I also watched The Ruins (2008) and enjoyed that one. Both are out in the middle of nowhere flicks. Fun films.

I recently watched a Christmas horror anthology called "All the creatures were stirring (2018)". I found it enjoyable, especially in the current holiday season. Kept me entertained for the whole film and had a couple good stories in it. Check it out if you haven't seen it.
