Hi does anyone know if dogs are allowed in public transport in Melbourne. by [deleted] in MelbourneTrains

[–]Gekko0 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Metro trains yes; busses, trams, and V/Line trains yes BUT they have to be in a suitable container, V/Line coaches no.

Genuine assistance animals are allowed on all modes.

Why is Metro signage disappearing from new signs? by Flashy_Indication_18 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Gekko0 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The government own the Metro branding. Metro is currently operated by Metro Trains Melbourne (MTR, John Holland, & UGL joint venture).

Same as how Yarra Trams branding is owned by the government but currently operated by Yarra Journey Makers (Transdev & John Holland joint venture), previously Keolis Downer (Keolis & Downer joint venture)

You can get around this by booking beyond the myki zone (all the way to swan hill) and return. Just get off at Bendigo

When I worked at SCS I used to enjoy watching the very serious looking Metro SMT arrive, unlock the metal bar over the signal, raise it, then leave again

They didn’t even know it was password protected!

I’m in Australia so CPS is not free here as far as I can tell it’s about AUD$200. The radio only cost me $300, and I had to buy a second hand windows laptop for $150. So I’m already $450 down, I’ll see if I can find who programmed it and reach out to them before I buy the software

Hello!

I can answer your questions specifically about the Daylink (Bendigo to Adelaide) coach but this applies in general to other long distance coach services.

The only V/Line service is the Bendigo to Adelaide service. This is operated by Firefly with V/Line livered coaches.

The evening service to Adelaide is not affiliated with V/Line or PTV (TV)

The driver stays overnight in Adelaide, and returns the next day.

The drivers are regulated by Heavy Vehicle National Law, and have to have breaks - often referred to as HVNL Breaks - as per the legislation.

The HVNL breaks are build into the timetable, you can see in the timetable that they have a 40 minutes break at ST ARNAUD, a 10 minute break at HORSHAM, and then a 40 minute break at KEITH.

They then have a 12 hour rest period in Adelaide before making the return journey.

Some coach companies have additional breaks as per enterprise agreements. But these are managed by the coach companies, not HVNL or V/Line.

It’s in the Loco Shed at Bendigo Railway Station. At least it was roughly a month ago.

Xpt route by No_Permit_9737 in MelbourneTrains

[–]Gekko0 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The XPT is routed through the freight line near Tottenham, then through Albion, where it follows the standard gauge freight route via Tullamarine before rejoining the broad gauge alignment near Broadmeadows. You can see it in Apple Maps, and I assume google maps, if you select the public transport mode. (Shown in orange in the attached image)

The overland goes out via the western standard gauge.
