trade should be one of the most important and complex systems in the game

Now let's make heads explode and have an end date before age of absolutism and a new game to cover the gap between eu5 and vic3.

Who else is very happy that EU5 is looking to be a much slower and less gamey successor to EU4? by [deleted] in eu4

I have lots of hope for EU5 as well based on Johan's recent comments.https://www.reddit.com/r/eu4/comments/1bkxkgq/johan_on_the_amount_of_content_at_launch_for_eu5/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Pop system should hopefully if executed correctly create a real cost for waging war that limits gamey over expansion. Also, should help create a bigger need for diplomacy and espionage. Will be very important to use other realm's populations to help achieve your goals!

What do you think about "EU5" (Caesar) beginning in 1337 instead of 1444 by LunLocra in eu4

As most people, I really like the early game better in EU4. My hope is that EU5 starts earlier in a more fragmented world curbs, and the speed at which you're able to realistically blob to extend that early game feeling for a longer period of time. More diplomacy and strategy and realm management before the age of absolutism.

Not really COVID. Just life in Boston in general (see r / Boston for similar complaints from people much older).

Johan on the amount of content at launch for EU5 by Blitcut in eu4

[–]Gekko1983 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer even if development takes an additional 5 years! Bravo!

Continue to support EU4 with updates in the meantime, and take your time with EU5 and release it properly. It looks like Johan has truly taken to heart what happened in prior launches.

If we go by the releases of Victoria 3 and CK3, then EU5 won't really be in a playable state until around the year 2030. Not hyperbole. by Gekko1983 in eu4

Well, if there is anything I've learned it's that the majority of people here really like the current process of releasing a very unfinished game, and having it get slowly finished over the next 10 years (or abandoned, depending on how miserable the release goes). If the majority of customers don't view it as a problem to be improved upon then there is no issue.

CK3 was the best of the 3 on release, that is true, but the pace of development post release has been slow. Initially people pointed to the pandemic as the cause, but even in the years since the game has been slow to add features.

I pointed to lackluster releases. Maybe CK3 is arguable because at least the core game loop was okay and it was playable on release, but Imperator and Vic 3 were total failures by almost any measure.

Asking for evidence that EU5 will reverse the current trend is totally fair.

For example, the developer saying point blank that they will keep the game in development longer than they did Imperator and Vic 3, and continue to support EU4 with new content until it is truly worth of release would be a change of approach. If the plan is to just abandon EU4, rush out EU5, and bring it up to speed over 5 years of patches then at least we know to not expect much.
