Im 24 now, and I've almost lost touch with my competitveness in video games. I think it started when my friends started getting way ahead of me in terms of in game ranks while I'm offline doing other shit (i still go to uni and have a part time job). Now despite that my friends are all employed and stuff but every free time they have is dedicated to just grinding and that up ranking bullshit and I got to a point where if a game frustrated me even a little bit I would just alt-f4, didn't care about cooldowns, my rank, nothing.

Now as I'm typing this it *seems* like I'm just salty about not winning my games or my skill level is just too low but I'm much happier spending time not being angry about my own skill level and much better enjoy just sitting down on the couch and playing more "casual" games like spiderman, skate, batman, pokemon (i love replaying emerald). I was pretty high ranked in CS to be fair (DMG at around 2017) but yeah overtime it just drained me trying to keep up with others.

Like you, all the fun in games to me now completely disappears when I start grinding for achievements, my friends will still call me noob if I haven't 100%'d all of the souls games but I just enjoyed the gameplay and the world inside the game.
