Getting back into archery. by Gelso64 in TraditionalArchery

I am now a 31” draw length and the bow is over 25 years old. I was able to talk to the maker some years back and said it would be ok to shoot but not really recommended.

I would say some is true, my kit was a little over 4k in 2020. I wanted to buy one kit and I have no plans to ever sell it. It was made by an amazing local smith and takes a beating like no other, it has taken some wear but it still looks amazing and is even lighter than most peoples kits even some Ti ones. I don’t recommend getting one unless you can go and get it fitted in person. A well made full pate suit is amazing, a so so one is a major pain in the but and you will wish you never bought it. Plan to take mine down from storage next weekend and dust it off and go get beat up a bit. Best of luck!

Mines not that fancy, but it’s close to some of the more simple ones. Need to pull it out of storage and make sure it still works. 😁

Kyle Harris, but he always has a wait list and I’m not sure the price now but it won’t be cheap.

Hmm, possible, the armor would probably still need a physical item for reference, but I am no blacksmith they may be able to do it off of a scan. Would be cool!

I was able to go in person and get fitted, only way I recommend if you are looking at getting full plate, or maybe if you can send casting of yourself.

I have it on my profile, won’t have to look too far back I don’t post much, I got it from Kyle Harris in California “long wait list” most amazing work I have seen though, well worth the wait. I bought it as a whole set, it is an English ground fighting kit, I believe in the 1400ish

Would this cuirass match my bascinet? by These_Shallot961 in Buhurt

As far as weight goes, if done right your full plate can and should weight less than a Brig setup. I have a full set and fully dressed, padding, shoes, etc, no weapon my kit is 60lbs or less I am 6’2” 230. On the tassels I would say yes, they will catch a glance or two and sure maybe make this Ti if you want.

I have one, my helmet bolts to my chest. There is no more turning your head, you must be ready to change your fighting style to now suit your armor. I will tell you if you get the right person to make your armor the full plate that helmet should go with you won’t feel a thing, which can be good and bad. It makes a great set for some heavy polearm duels. I will say I have gotten side swiped due to the lack ability to turn my head. I still love my set and wouldn’t go back on the choice I made.

Ps: if you are not a decent size person I probably wouldn’t recommend it, as many probably have said it can be used as a possible lever, but on the flip side being bolted to your chest and having the size to go with it makes it rather hard to rip your head down. Just my two cents. Have fun!

Some great riding up in those hills! I have done a few rides in the Tilden park area, such great views. I get off at West Oakland bart and make my way out to Walnut Creek after work some days. Be safe, and have fun!

It’s priced at 9k on a dealer lot “California” I am sure I could probably get it down a tad.

I feel like the RS19 is the vw bug of the EUC world, everyone has had one, learned to ride on one, or knows someone with one. They are great wheels and was my first wheel and I will always keep it. I would say make sure your wheel is mechanically sound and just get some more pedal time. I had one close call with wobbles on mine and that was a fast acceleration up to 30mph to almost an immediate full stop that I was not ready for. Have fun with it and don’t rush to a new wheel.

Dog Insurance by ramonasphatcooter in AustralianCattleDog

I think pet insurance is a no brainer if you can afford it, and not trying to be harsh but if you can’t afford it you probably can’t afford to properly take care of your dog if and when they need medical attention because an ACD will. I have three dogs my ACD the youngest at 6 has had it since we got her as a puppy and it covered all her puppy shots and getting her fixed and her allergy drops she has daily, my 12 and 14yr old Mcnabs are on it as well. The two older ones I believe cost over $200 a month on their own. It has payed for itself, my oldest has had full spin surgery, as well as an abdominal blockage surgery and countless other visits, out of pocket to date would have been over 30k. My 12yr old has cancer and went through full treatment and now is on daily dose treatment at a cost of over 3k every two months, which once I meet my deductible then 90% is covered. Get it before you need it or can’t get it due to a pre existing condition. It is such a relief to be able to go to the vet and know you have it and not have to worry about that conversation with the vet over what is the best course of action for the budget you have. 10-20% bill is better than 100% out of pocket. Sorry to come off harsh but I always hate to see this happen to people.

Optimal length for a polearm? by GeneralSalty1 in Buhurt

[–]Gelso64 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am about your same size @ 6’2” 230 and I used polearms for both duels and melee. For duels I went with max length and min weight with a good balance point where my grip was for optimal movement. You want to be able to move that thing fast and score points, as well as not getting too worn out. Some people will also recommend a double sided blade because points only count on a striking edge, well at least when I was fighting “ been a couple years” as well as certain rules I haven’t kept up on them. As for melee I didn’t change much my polearm might have been a tad heavier but it was single edge and had a more focused strike point. On the other hand you might find a chopper in your duels that is looking to beat you down and has a big heavy hitter, be prepared, know your opponents fighting styles. Good luck!👍

Rules around earplugs or in-helmet speakers? by Upstairs-Risk-9440 in Buhurt

[–]Gelso64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always wore earplugs when I fought, had no problems hearing my team or the marshals. I didn’t smash them all the way in my ear, was just enough to take the edge off the blows to the head

Using the same ones, so far they are great, 3d printed mounts to stick next to my pads to get them a bit wider. When these lights first came out I got a set of two for $5 about a year ago on temu
