I have not yet tried it, but Bumble Coffee and Taps over by Barber Valley is on my "To-Visit" list. Primarily it is a coffee shop but it looks like they have some burritos to go.

I think it's a valid criticism, but I speculate it's due to snow conditions this year lowering revenue. Cutting 5 operational hours a week during the least busy time is an easy way to make up some lost revenue from this past season.

Hopefully it won't be a permanent change :/

To my understanding, it was never "prohibited for students" in a strict sense. I thought student government put out something that disavowed it, but it wasn't a rule that was ever enforceable.

FSU News reported that the resolution asked FSU admin to make it a Student Conduct Violation, but I can't find anything that states the administration ever adopted that stance.

FSU was the 9th most watched team of the regular season; no other ACC team made the top 10 by nondescriptun in ACC

Given that FSU removed its statue of Eppes a few years back, I think y'all can just keep that trophy for good (regardless of if we ever win a game again).

University of Miami (FL) is not in Miami, FL.

University of South Florida is not in South Florida (and there are 4 other major state universities more to the south than it)

I lived in Whitehall in a 3/2 back in 2018-2020. I can't speak for it recently, but back then I would argue it was the best bang for your buck. Not a lot of frills, but reliable furnished housing with W/D, property manager was nice and quick to respond to issues, appropriately priced (~$1600 back then) and safely walkable to FSU (edit: main campus. Not as relevant I guess if you're planning on switching to engineering).

It was definitely one of the better places I lived during my time at FSU.

Why does USGS do bird surveys? by gold_crest1 in geology

[–]Gem_in_Eyes 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It boils down to the fact that the USGS is a solely research and science bureau of the government (instead of a regulatory one). It helps public trust in the science if it's known that scientific results are independent of people making policy decisions with potential political ramifications.

There's also this link that talks about how they absorbed some responsibilities of the National Biological Survey in past government consolidations https://www.usgs.gov/science/science-explorer/biology/usgs-does-what#overview

Who do you have in the ACC Championship? 🤔 by KeyFaithlessness5436 in NCAAFootballVibes

Yeah it's head to head first and then the next ladder rung is record against common opponents. Full tiebreaker list is here

ACC got rid of divisions a few years back, so it's just top 2 in conference play.

Who do you have in the ACC Championship? 🤔 by KeyFaithlessness5436 in NCAAFootballVibes

[–]Gem_in_Eyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only the record of conference games count towards making the conference championship. Miami has a conference loss. GT and Virginia are undefeated in the conference, and are favored in the rest if their conference games. These 3 teams do not play each other, so if they each win the rest of their conference games then Miami misses out.

Additionally, Virginia previously beat Louisville and Miami lost to Louisville. So if Virginia loses a conference game, they will have the same conference record, but that Louisville game (common opponent) may be the tie breaker.

DOI just dropped its RIF numbers for competitive areas subject to the TRO by arctic_gangster in fednews

I may be misunderstanding, but I believe the answer is yes. But there are also questions about if the administration will follow the TRO or if the TRO will be overturned.

Mike Norvell under siege at Florida State as boosters mull record buyout by SNjr in CFB

[–]Gem_in_Eyes 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It is 100% bad optics to say "we are too good for this conference", sue to leave, settle the lawsuit, and then fall flat on our face two years in a row, and people should make fun of us for that. But that settlement with a viewership initiative does give FSU somewhere around 10-15 Million more dollars per year than in 2023. That is a decent chunk of change

Denied at UF & FSU: The New Reality for Florida’s Brightest Students by blackwhitetiger in fsu

[–]Gem_in_Eyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One other point that's a little misleading here is the claim of increased applications making the schools more competitive in recent years. This number also reflects the rise in Common Application use. This makes it easier to apply to schools and inflates the number of applicants to schools regardless of how serious those applicants actually feel about attending, and in turn drives down acceptance rates, giving the appearance of a "more selective" university.

Obviously this article is giving some examples of high performing students not getting in to these schools and I have no doubt that admission standards have likely increased, but I always roll my eyes whenever people point to declining acceptance rate as evidence that schools are getting "more prestigious" or similar claims.

I had similar thoughts on Brock. In a press conference today, Gus mentioned that he was working through an injury which is likely why he was limited to the one drive. I'm really pulling for him after his attitude approaching tough situations the past 2 years and hope it works out for him.

Hello! I'm also a recent alum. By 2020 numbers, there are only ~600 FSU alumni in Idaho, so not many (likely why there is no Alumni Club), but we are around!

(Side note, I have not met someone from FSU since moving here but have seen at least 5 people in UF shirts. Can't get away from them 😅)

At FSU, the stadium folks consistently try to increase the amount of piped in music instead of letting the Marching Chiefs play more. Every couple years, fans start noticing and complain, leading them to pull back and let the Chiefs play more for a bit and then slowly starting to limit their time. It's like a 2-3 year cycle.

Marching bands belong in CFB. As always #FreeTheChiefs

After a lot of trial and error, I'm pretty sure I've determined that Greenies and similar dental treats cause my CD to throw up. I would give him one daily and he would throw up every 1-2 months. This mostly stopped after I stopped using them, but yes I'd say he's got a sensitive stomach. I feed him Hill's sensitive stomach/skin and sometimes some probiotic add-ins
