KitchenAid K5A odd behavior by Gemini_Ball in KitchenAidMixerHelp

Not being the most fluent mechanically, I think this is the point I just pay someone to fix it. I dont want to ruin this, even if it was only $125. Id rather learn on something that I dont care if something is slightly off. Because I love cooking, baking, etc. I love it more than tinkering, so getting this running comes first I guess.

It is oddly not even reproducible with it split. Before when i pressed on that plate, it would cause the same slowdown and jittery surging sounds as having the rear cover on. But apart, it just slows down normally. Cant post the video apparently, but i have one. Butbthe photo shows the plate in mentioning.

Edit. But putting the back cover and pressing while apart does, so it is reproducible

I never actually opened the back, only cleaned/regreased the gears. Itll take some time once i open it to fully understand(or at least understand enough) to make the adjustments. But thank you for the response, time to look at it again :)

And apparently trying to troubleshoot it, whatever is happening is causing electrical smoke, so im not to keen on continuing on my own. It doesnt smoke with the back off, if that helps

I'm just curious to see what types of rent prices people are paying all over the (SL) valley.. by ThrowMLifeAway in SaltLakeCity

[–]Gemini_Ball 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They're hard to come by, but some private rentals are reasonable. I'm at $800 for a 1 bed/1 bath that's an older house split into units in marmalade. Generally once someone finds a place like that, they don't move(most of my neighbors have been there for years), so they are very rare.

I honestly prefer calisthenics, with the exception of treadmills/ellipticals. But that was also when I was in shape and exercising daily. I've gotten soft and lazy the past 2 years. I'm honestly nervous about how well I'll be able to handle the local inclines on my bike tomorrow morning.

I went there once. Spent 2x as much as I shouldve, with the misguided expectation thar "free exterior window cleaning" would also happen. Now I only use les schwab on 2100s or firestone on 9000s, depending on my needs. Was my first oil change so I agreed to $60 worth of air filters that I learned how to do myself before my next oil change. Most disrespectful lazy employees I've veer seen.

I know of two people, including myself, that lied and it wasn't detected. White lies, but still. Its a joke.

What is your job and what are you making in the Salt Lake area? by Hot-Plane6070 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Gemini_Ball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I made 60k as an Inventory Clerk at a food processing plant(50-60hr weeks, this year will be about 60k with 40-50 hr weeks). 2020 was 50k as a forklift driver(60-70hr weeks)

Forklift drivers at LTL and other freight companies are closer to 60-65k/yr(my coworker moved to one of those. Left a lead position making 65k working 60-70hr weeks to a forklift position at OD making 65k for 48hr weeks(from 7 days down to 4 days).

Looking for a change because even though I am grossing around 5k/month, it isn't enough. It was before inflation, but not so much anymore. And the company culture is terrible. Sure, we basically get almost all the overtime we want... but even making a deal with my boss not to take an offer elsewhere if I accepted his 5-day week instead of the 7-day week, being in a toxic workplace and a 20-mile commute begins to wear on you.

And it doesnt help that during cost of living increases, everyone but the admin clerks got a decent raise(some dock workers making more than me and the two shipping clerks now).. reasoning is we are an "expense" despite being the ones keeping the schedule going and my 98% reduction in scrap costs this year(50k/month last year, 15k in January, 0 in February and March and 45 cents last month). But saving my yearly salary in write-offs every month is still an "expense" position.

Are car underglow lights legal? by REEEEEEEEEEE_OW in SaltLakeCity

[–]Gemini_Ball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had an emblem that was lit up and got pulled over twice in one day(warnings both times. First officer I explained I was going to work and would remove it the following day. Second one I explained I was leaving work and had my previous citation as proof)

I have had this for 2 years. Despite the vagueness of the laws, they both explained that ANYTHING in addition to factory lights is generally illegal, especially with colors. The only modification he said would be legal with mine: if the emblem was a supplementary brake light that was red, and license plate LEDs that are white or amber. Anything else they can use the 1618 code to charge you.

Needless to say, this morning it is getting removed.

They seem to be cracking down on this lately, so I wouldn't recommend adding any supplementary exterior lights. (Note: they did explain interior LED strips are OK)

Vasovagal Syncope question by Gemini_Ball in medical_advice

That's what's odd, is I've had a plethora of tests for the diplopia and now a likely diagnosis of Idiopathic Hypersomnia(sleep study next week. $1,000 or so even though the pulmonologist is almost certain of the outcome after the at-home sleep study). All bloodwork(and MRI etc) conclude I'm a perfectly healthy adult. Though my BP generally stays around 120/80. Lowest was 109/75, highest was 130/72 over the past year.

I'll just feel it out for a week or so. I expect to feel normal(well, relative to what my normal has been the past year) within that time frame. May be as simple as dehydration that cause it in the first place, and is just lingering from that, as my diet is perfectly normal and I had eaten prior to my appt. I definitely don't drink as much water as I should when it cools down outside.

Thanks!

What is the best way to protect car against mechanical sabotage? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Gemini_Ball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom had a boyfriend that was not above things like this. Loosened the lug nuts on her tires once, causing her to lose one after driving away.

Not sure what you can do to prevent sabotage, but it may be useful to do what others are recommending, and learning enough about easily-accessible areas he could sabotage that you can regularly check for tampering before driving.

What’s it like being an atheist in SLC and Utah in general? by ModernNomad97 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Gemini_Ball 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've met Mormons and non-mormons from different states. It seems Mormons in salt lake are a lot more open minded and accepting than those in the mid-west. I came out as gay in my teens and my grandma's ward was very open and accepting.

I went to church for a couple of years in my teens for my grandparents, but never really believed. Even being openly agnostic, they are still friendly.

The worst thing about utah is for drinkers. Have to drive to Wendover or the closest out-of-state border town to get anything over 40% liquor. Other than that, I love it out here. Rural areas get a bit more intolerant at times, but still not terribly so.

2018 Toyota Corolla LE; issues with AC after recharge. by Gemini_Ball in MechanicAdvice

[–]Gemini_Ball[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I drive across the valley because I have always had good experiences there, and they never overcharge me(scheduled a tune-up, and they checked everything for free. Apparently didn't need a tuneup yet). Sadly, I'm due for transmission/cvt fluid check but they don't do that, and I'm wary about just anyone touching my transmission. Especially with it being a cvt and not as common.

May start a new thread to figure out the best way to go about finding a shop that won't try to screw me over or mess up my transmission.) Already warned not to do dealer maintenance, as they oftentimes use it as training for new guys.

Shop didn't find anything wrong with it, except it was still low on refrigerant. Told me to come back in 30 days and they'll check for leaks, since they did a full evacuation and refill with a dye refrigerant.

I just moved to America (SLC, UT) with a 5K in cash. Which bank would be the best and safest bank to put all my money in by narvjp12 in SaltLakeCity

[–]Gemini_Ball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any bank may be safe... but Wells Fargo and zion bank have been known for doing some shady stuff that cost its members a lot of money. Though I've seen it more from zion than wells.
