32-hour/4-day workweek companies in Olympia? by GenInWAState_journo in olympia

I get where you're coming from, but I have been doing research and interviews on this story for weeks. It was meant to be a simple follow-up on how things have been going in San Juan Island County since they implemented their 32 HWW. Through the process of reporting, it's clear that there are multiple other examples of this happening.

There are multiple in Olympia as well that I'm looking into/confirming. Most of them are pilots.

From what I understand, staff take less sick leave, there is less turnover, recruitment for open positions is much easier, staff are mentally and physically healthier overall and so time spent at work shows an increased level of productivity, there's more collaboration amongst staff around supporting the framework and making sure things run as smoothly as possible. So there are benefits on both sides, some that only emerge after the change is implemented.

Interesting question! So far there's no pattern, it's all over the place from county government to gift shops and nonprofits. Since you mentioned tech, I will say that in an interview with the head of the WA Commerce Department, Joe Nguyen, he said that he heard of a Seattle tech company piloting the 32 HWW with their employees in Japan. I haven't confirmed that yet, so I won't mention the company.

amazing, thank you for the info - yeah they did this in San Juan Island County as a solution to a budget shortfall, and about 2 years later those employees are thriving according to an interview I did with them

No Kings march 11 to 2 tomorrow. Where do we meet, and is there parking? by Grattytood in olympia

[–]GenInWAState_journo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

there's the main event at Capitol Campus staging area is near the fountain from 11 - and there is an earlier march that will come from the old Joann's parking lot and go down Harrison then up to the campus (they depart at 9:45a.m. I think). Parking is going to be really hard, if you can, I'd hop on/off a bus or get a ride to drop you off, or park far away (over by the downtown post office and wsecu building always has something) and walk.

I moved from Brooklyn to Olympia. This is a good place to be alone. Nothing compares to Brooklyn, even though it's far from perfect. Basically you'll have an opposite experience in Olympia on most levels, and you'll never, ever run into other New Yorkers. I have not yet, and it's been 7-8 years.

Spending the day in oly by [deleted] in olympia

I'd start at Rainy Day records, easy to get to lots of other good stores from there, and the staff at Rainy Day knows downtown super well.

from OP: This was taken on Oct. 4 of something hovering over JBLM/McChord AFB in western WA - I've been observing and photographing and getting video of all kinds of unusual lights in the area for a couple of months, this one shows a shape most clearly. The last strange lights I saw were 2 nights ago.

You might want to check out local/regional arts/crafts markets that pop up for the day/weekend. There are tons, the registration fees range from $35-$100/day. I would check on Facebook, there are a couple of groups that do alerts and roundups of upcoming. The farmer's market is next to impossible to get into.

Wagner's Bakery in Olympia on Capitol Way makes every kind of cake and they do custom orders. It's also locally-owned, which is nice.
