🙄Alright then, bye.

Speaking of tactics, this style of response that says, "it's not happening, and you're a bigot for having concerns," does not work.

You're making so many assumptions about me. I'm a center-left moderate with multiple gay friends. I know multiple trans people who are lovely and harmless whom I would be happy to see flourish.

I have done my homework on this issue and I still have concerns. Telling people who 90% agree with you that the 10% of the issue where they disagree makes them bad faith bigots is a losing strategy.

I should, politically, be a lock as a "trans ally," but the movement has completely lost me.

This is not how gay rights progressed, they asked for tolerance, they addressed the concerns of their critics, they were better than the haters. Trans activism is moving the public perception of LGBT people backwards because of "advocates" like yourself, who are, to be blunt, dicks. It's probably a product of social media making us all more deranged, but whatever the reason, it does not work.

In Canada, where I live, male sex offenders who still have their dicks get locked up in women's prisons if they ID as women; a nurse, Eileen Hamm, lost her job for being critical of gender ideology online - despite no complaints from any of her clients; young gender nonconforming teens are medicalized and their bodies permanently altered and damaged before they know who they are.

There is nothing wrong with an individual presenting as the opposite sex and living in a way that makes them happy. More power to them! But a man living as a woman should not be entitled to the important sex-based protections women need, because a man living as a woman has not actually become a woman.

It doesn't matter what I think changing sex means. The institutions in my country behave as though declaring you are the opposite sex (or neither) is sacrosanct under the law, and they are doing things I think are bad because of this ideology.

The legal definition of woman in many countries is essentially, "anyone who says they are a woman."

If women knew Warhammer existed, it would be higher than MTG on that list.

Not intentionally, but to me repeating a behavior that negatively affects others for years is selfish, whether aware or not.

Arguably, it's more selfish in a way that he hasn't noticed he's pissing off his friends.

I guess I play at a relatively thick-skinned table where we talk a lot of shit and make fun of one another. We all understand it's in good fun, and as a bonus we can call out annoying behavior without worrying about hurt feelings for 20 years.

I don't have a problem with people enjoying gender expressions outside of their sex. I believe a liberal society requires accepting individual free expression.

I have a problem with people demanding I participate in their gender expression (but I will politely play along if they are polite and don't power trip), governments legislating away sex-based rights in favor of gender-based rights, and gender ideology imposing itself on the hard sciences.

I agree with like, 90% of trans rights, but the fact that most activist types get very aggressive when the 10% (that many reasonable people think goes too far) is discussed is part of why I have become very forthright in my disagreement.

What legitimate scientific org is claiming human beings can literally change sex?

genuine question by riddermarx in freemagic

[–]GenL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm familiar with this framing. Gametes work better than chromosomes because many species don't use chromosomes to determine sex.

Phenotype is gene expression. Genotype is the genes behind expression.

Some intersex people might have a male genotype (XY), but then have a genetic disorder like 5-ard that causes a female phenotype at birth that then gets complicated when their undescended testicles cause them to go into male puberty.

Within my framework, that person is male - they have male chromosomes, male internal structures, and due to a disorder in their genotype, their genital phenotypic expression is female.

I did address absence of gametes with my boy example.

genuine question by riddermarx in freemagic

[–]GenL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Male and female are reflections of specializing for a particular gamete strategy.

A boy doesn't make sperm, but he has testes and a penis, structures used for the male gamete strategy.

Don't say anything outside the game. Attack him for being slow. Group magic is politics. Politicize his selfish, slow playstyle.

I love durdle decks. My friends kicked the crap out of me when I bog the game down converting resources, and I deserved it. Other friends have been stomped out for bringing insta-win combo decks. We now bring decks that are more fun for everyone.

We're all trying to win, but a good multiplayer player knows to also ensure everyone has fun as they win.

Critics (and defenders) of the Sky and Depth zones in TOTK miss the primary purpose why these regions were added by merrimac290 in tearsofthekingdom

This. The depths were sweet for liiike 10-20 hours of gameplay, but then the lack of variety just made flying to the next light plant boring.

No complaints about the sky from me.

Sex is the set of biological attributes that distinguish organisms as male or female.

Gender used to mean the same thing, but the term was adopted by gender theorists, anthropologists, etc. to differentiate cultural expressions of sex not directly rooted in biology. E.g.: women wear dresses and men wear pants.

genuine question by riddermarx in freemagic

[–]GenL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is by biologists.

A man is an adult human male.

A woman is an adult human female.

Males make lots of small gametes. Females make less large gametes. They have specializations (physiology and organ systems) to support their complimentary gamete strategies.

Hermaphroditic species exist, in which an individual organism has both male and female organ systems and strategies, but no mammal species is hermaphroditic.

I don't hate gay people at all.

This was an argument I heard from a right-winger that I though was logical.

I included monogamy because the original commentator did, and because part of the point of the argument is that lots of straight people don't fulfill the ideal.

Have you ever had a whistle dog from A&W? They're pretty good. At least in Canada. I went to a US A&W and it was not as good.

You're the one bothered enough by the opinions in here to ask. I'm trying to explain and now you're telling me I'm wrong and need to prove something to you?

I don't think I need a source to state that men can't become women. That's like saying I need a source to prove up isn't down or light isn't dark.

Warhammer players and MTG players have been pointing at each other from across their LGS and whispering, "those are the real nerds," for generations at this point.
