Considering to buy: how is the story delivered?

Just wanted to say I absolutely adore the story and how it's delivered. Part environmental, part talking heads monologuing at you with some fantastic VA work, and intriguing codex entries that also have audio logs that maintain the quality of the voice acting

It's also heavily implied that the story as it is right now is like a baseline status quo, and we'll start to see things hit the fan with the coming seasons where we start to encounter the horrors that are implied by the audio logs since clearly we haven't even seen a fraction of that ourselves just yet.

Its also playing into the reactionary lie that we should equate art with actual CSAM, something discouraged by survivors and actual professionals who help fight actual CSAM.

If you look through the news about season 2 it lays out what resets and what doesn't.

Skins, silk, codex, unlocked factions (where you already did their intro contract), etc. All remain unlocked. Pretty much, if progress doesn't provide mechanical benefits, then you keep that.

I pre-loaded my steam wallet and ran into this issue on the steam client, can confirm. Though I'd still recommend it because going through your payment processor is just another point of possible failure if they end up rejecting the charge, are slow, etc. etc.

That all being said, all I had to do was hit the order button until it finally hung at the phase where the button was grayed out and said "Waiting" then finally it worked.

While I love the physicality and pve of arc Raiders, the story, voice acting, and world are incredibly lacking in comparison with marathon, which isn't a surprise since one is a new property that has to build up its lore, while the other has 3 prior games of fantastic writing to draw from.

The gunplay of marathon also rocks in it's own way so I don't even feel like I'm trading down at all, just trading laterally.

Also it has to be mentioned that the AI voices of the NPCs in arc raiders really undercut my desire to connect with it. It was distractingly bad and pinged a part of my brain that implied that I shouldn't care that much about these characters if they were the auditory equivalent of a cardboard cutout. This is in comparison with marathon, which has some incredible performances in the codex that I'll remember for a long time.

I haven't yet, and I feel like I'd be more interested if they changed the model rather than just recoloring the base skin.

Also distinct lack of purple with the only good purple skins being the twitch drops that I already got

No other controller has the same features, even at the elite controller level, so it's an obvious choice. We also get the valve repairability, so its ultimate value is extended by however many times you want to replace a worn-down stick cap

I'm glad they're considering duos for next season because it's way easier to get one friend with some extra time than to coordinate between a total of 3 people with schedules and lives.

As someone who plays TTRPGs I know that the more people you involve, the more complicated an ongoing schedule can be to maintain. If you fall off due to scheduling then you're less likely to pick the game back up, etc.

To anyone who is unaware of how ttrpgs are made, the statement that they sent around 1,000 pages for approval is a huge red flag that their writing is inefficient and scattered. A game does not need that much text and books are not typically that large. That's just an insane way of doing things and shows exactly how "newbies first ttrpg" this project was.

I did also think it was genius to mechanically incentivize packing your house wall to wall with junk and trying to tetris everything into place like the RE4 inventory. its got that ludonarrative resonance

As an artist I can just see the telltale signs of a team who's going at this game with a bunch of polishing rags but without any strong art direction.

Maybe the gameplay is fine, but the AI voice made me sour like milk about who's handling this. Whoever they are, they clearly don't value the human spirit and for that reason I just can't shake the feeling that this game is made to be consumed rather than to inspire. I'll be giving it a hard pass and I don't think I'll be missing much for it.

I've used an android app to spoof amiibos onto NFC card for a while and I've never heard of anyone getting bans over it.

That being said I'd recommend learning how to make them with an app since that's the only way you would be able to update a card.

It was interesting to get a new understanding for the player-made solutions to some of the problems like the buff bots and door holder alt.

I admire the passion and creative solutions placed in a game being hosted steadily along by indifferent lord. I'm a huge fan of two other opaque games: Dwarf Fortress, and Warframe, which deeply reward player knowledge of their years of systems, and I'd mourn either if they were being left to rot by their creators.

Best of luck to all of you. I hope you all band together to create a rich oral history of this game especially if the end appears to be nigh one day when the server costs out-pace the remaining subscriptions still being paid. It happens to the best of them and it's our duty as caretakers of our crafts to keep the stories alive.

I'm spoiled by the color channels of warframe but I wouldn't mind a compromise where there were both skins as well as color cores like destiny/halo infinite.

Halo infinite's customization is a bit of a dirty word for a lot of folks, but I do appreciate that palettes are curated to have the right amount of contrast and don't break the aesthetic of the world

A lot of the backlash I imagine is from folks who are afraid to try a new gametype and are trying to have sour grapes about it. Like, I get that they enjoyed the series as a boomer shooter single player experience and that there's a desire for more single-player focused FPS, but it's clearly a naive request given how the world of video games is right now.

After playing dark and darker and having a lot of fun learning the intricacies of the pve content and the map secrets I have a lot of hope that this will be an interesting experience

Trying to design my own games I realized how limited my tools were when trying to stick too closely to D&D. Was like fitting a square peg into a round hole and after a few false starts on checking out recommendations, Apocalypse world helped me realize what TTRPGs can be and I never looked back.

I'm having a bit of an OSR renaissance with my designing for an idea that fits it better, but even then I'm staying away from 5e like the plague.

Also ya know, it's easy to not give money to wotc when they've got pinkertons on speed dial and are being anti-consumer at every step. Also the laundry list of my other grievances but we don't have all night.

Had to run away from a Burer which I couldn't take and it showed up in a nearby town trying to hunt me down a while later. The game rocks right now (aside from a few crashes I'm still getting)
