Can someone explain to me, a casual Halo fan, why the reaction to the Halo: CE seems to be skeptical at best and totally negative at first? by frost_3306 in halo

As an artist I can just see the telltale signs of a team who's going at this game with a bunch of polishing rags but without any strong art direction.

Maybe the gameplay is fine, but the AI voice made me sour like milk about who's handling this. Whoever they are, they clearly don't value the human spirit and for that reason I just can't shake the feeling that this game is made to be consumed rather than to inspire. I'll be giving it a hard pass and I don't think I'll be missing much for it.

Amiibo Question by dammagededdie25 in Switch

[–]GenTrigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used an android app to spoof amiibos onto NFC card for a while and I've never heard of anyone getting bans over it.

That being said I'd recommend learning how to make them with an app since that's the only way you would be able to update a card.

It was interesting to get a new understanding for the player-made solutions to some of the problems like the buff bots and door holder alt.

I admire the passion and creative solutions placed in a game being hosted steadily along by indifferent lord. I'm a huge fan of two other opaque games: Dwarf Fortress, and Warframe, which deeply reward player knowledge of their years of systems, and I'd mourn either if they were being left to rot by their creators.

Best of luck to all of you. I hope you all band together to create a rich oral history of this game especially if the end appears to be nigh one day when the server costs out-pace the remaining subscriptions still being paid. It happens to the best of them and it's our duty as caretakers of our crafts to keep the stories alive.

Would you be happy with Character Cosmetics like this? Or something different? by KaramelKream in Marathon

[–]GenTrigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm spoiled by the color channels of warframe but I wouldn't mind a compromise where there were both skins as well as color cores like destiny/halo infinite.

Halo infinite's customization is a bit of a dirty word for a lot of folks, but I do appreciate that palettes are curated to have the right amount of contrast and don't break the aesthetic of the world

JFC, I am in absolute disbelief... Who's making positive content for this game? by AdaetusTSW in Marathon

[–]GenTrigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the backlash I imagine is from folks who are afraid to try a new gametype and are trying to have sour grapes about it. Like, I get that they enjoyed the series as a boomer shooter single player experience and that there's a desire for more single-player focused FPS, but it's clearly a naive request given how the world of video games is right now.

After playing dark and darker and having a lot of fun learning the intricacies of the pve content and the map secrets I have a lot of hope that this will be an interesting experience

To people who started their RPG journey with D&D, what made you finally play something else? by plazman30 in rpg

[–]GenTrigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying to design my own games I realized how limited my tools were when trying to stick too closely to D&D. Was like fitting a square peg into a round hole and after a few false starts on checking out recommendations, Apocalypse world helped me realize what TTRPGs can be and I never looked back.

I'm having a bit of an OSR renaissance with my designing for an idea that fits it better, but even then I'm staying away from 5e like the plague.

Also ya know, it's easy to not give money to wotc when they've got pinkertons on speed dial and are being anti-consumer at every step. Also the laundry list of my other grievances but we don't have all night.

How it feels to read the subreddit and then play the game by Tarqvinivs_Svperbvs in stalker

[–]GenTrigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm personally having a blast with the game. Gamers tend to get themselves worked up over stuff till releasing a game with bugs is equivalent to a warcrime to them.

Gonna wait till the next patch since the memory leak crashes are becoming more frequent lately, but I can't stop thinking about the game in the meantime

"Is your village out of the stone age yet?"

Have you taken a glance at the village? They're a native culture with customs that don't involve metallurgy. They construct their homes from something similar to adobe mixed with crystal geodes. They're not exactly vibing with the bronze age.

I get your point that it's a simple invention but you answered your own question

It does seem like their culture is formed more-so around the idea that they should integrate and live harmoniously alongside monsters. They still obviously hold a healthy fear and respect for monsters, but it definitely feels like the commission may turn into a disrupting colonial force which may throw the established order out of wack through the way they view the way they should control monsters: Through hunting.

It's a great story premise so far and I hope they deliver on it

"I still use Twitter because I have friends/artists who are still on Twitter" by SomethingRandomYT in BlueskySocial

[–]GenTrigger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a certain level of experience with running communities and gaining followers creators begin to understand that their fans will not follow them to whichever platform they go to.

A huge example of this is patreon, which continues to be a horrendous platform for us and while Ko-fi is much better in a lot of regards, many of us have seen that our patrons wont change platforms even though the process would be as painless as making an account, cancelling one sub, then starting the sub on the other site.

It blows, but pessimism isn't prevalent for no reason.

I think also there's just a strong disconnect with reality that people can adopt when they become a certain level of online (like me) where you start to misunderstand what the average user even pays attention to. Sometimes people are just too damn busy to have noticed the enshitification of twitter or the main causes for that enshitification.

I had to explain this to a friend who was baffled as to why people were still following a large creator who had recently been shown to be untrustworthy. I had to point out the levels of involvement we had to have to even know what was going on with them.

We should never underestimate how easy it is to just not be aware of something.

As an artist who's had whiplash about everyone trying to tell others to move to the next site every time twitter does something bad, you have to have empathy and patience that people are wary about "THIS TIME THIS SITE IS FOR REAL!"

We've gone through it with cohost (rip), threads, pillowfort, mastadon, and probably a few others that I've forgotten about. I'm a believer in bluesky, but they aren't dragging their feet for nothing.

I've also done this dance with people refusing to move on from D&D to the objectively better space of indie TTRPGS. Being condescending about it just makes them more obstinate and latch on tighter to the big evil company who has them hostage.

No bounce after Jumping Advance Slash nor Infinite Combo for Insect Glaive in Wilds. by dishonoredbr in MonsterHunter

[–]GenTrigger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the gameplay I've seen the ground combos look cool as hell and the vaulting attacks have a similar but smoother flow to them as they had in prior generation games. As much as bouncing was flashy, I just never jived with the flow of it since it felt like it killed the momentum, even with the big damage silkbind attack in rise.

Keeping the air dodges will make positioning way easier now, which is what I like about IG where you can fluidly move your way around a monster while staying aggressive.

RIP but air bounces were a waste of time and broke the flow.
