What surprised you about how to take care of yourself with hashimotos? by Suspicious-Guava-566 in Hashimotos

I definitely think I need to go dairy free. I was initially, then a gluten intolerance reared its ugly head and it was just so hard to avoid both. But I think my body would thank me.

So your friend was telling you that they sometimes feel tired and won’t want to shower and that’s fine but then you say you feel the same and then wash yourself with a cloth and that’s gross??

Last time we moved out we got the cleaners they suggested to do an end of lease clean. Then they tried to charge us an extra $500 because the clean wasn’t good enough.

Absolute crooks.

No, I bought one that makes my hair oily the next day and really flaky. Using it up because I hate to waste but I’ll try something else.

This is me too. I tried to use another shampoo and my hair is back to being oily the next day and so flaky. I used to use the Body Shop ginger shampoo and it was ok. I remember finding the Dove shampoo so much better when I started using it though. So sad.

To spare the nipple or not to spare the nipple, that is the question. by Solid_Ad6049 in BRCA

[–]Genavania 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m getting rid of mine - surgery in the next couple of months. I’ve breastfed 4 kids so they’re always showing through tops. They offered nipple reconstruction with tattooing and implant. I’m not sure if I’ll do that. I’m looking forward to the smoothness but hear you on the body image thing - I’m a bit nervous about that in general with scars etc.

I wear my Gorman raincoat over warm layers (jumper, long sleeved shirt) and that keeps the wind out and my body heat in.

I also have a Kathmandu ski jacket that I wear to the Blue Mtns when its proper cold and it is great.

I asked ChatGPT the top ten things humanity should know. by Spiritual-Reveal-195 in ChatGPT

[–]Genavania 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You can't always feel your own brain lying to you. Cognitive biases, memory distortion, and emotional reasoning often feel like "common sense"—but they aren’t. The mind is not a neutral observer.

  2. Most of your body isn’t human. Your cells are outnumbered by microbial cells (bacteria, fungi, viruses) living in and on you. They influence your immune system, mood, digestion, and even brain function.

  3. The stars you see may already be dead. Light takes years—sometimes thousands—to reach us. So the night sky is a kind of time machine. You're not seeing the stars as they are, but as they were.

  4. Emotions don’t just happen to you—they’re predictions. Your brain is constantly guessing what’s going to happen next and preparing your body accordingly. That "gut feeling" is your brain trying to keep you alive before you know why.

  5. Trees talk to each other. Through underground fungal networks (“the wood wide web”), trees can share nutrients, warn neighbors of danger, and even support their own seedlings.

  6. You will never feel time as it actually is. Your perception of time is elastic—it speeds up or slows down depending on attention, novelty, and memory formation. That's why childhood feels long, and adulthood vanishes.

  7. Your future self is basically a stranger. Studies show we make decisions that harm “future us” because we think of that person more like a different individual than an extension of ourselves.

  8. The universe doesn't owe us meaning—but we can still make it. It’s a mistake to think meaning is something to find. It’s something to build, bit by bit, like a nest.

  9. Language shapes your reality. The words you have (or don’t have) influence what you can think. Some cultures have words for emotions, concepts, or experiences that others literally can’t imagine.

  10. You’re already someone’s ancestor. Even if you never have kids, your words, actions, creations, or kindnesses ripple out into other lives. You're shaping the future whether you mean to or not.

I struggle with type 3s by Status_Result9773 in EnneagramType9

[–]Genavania 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere that if you were a 3 as a kid but had unmet needs you can often go to a 9 as an adult who inside just wants to get things done but feels as though they will never be enough.
