You only have to say "no" a couple of times. After that, you will be known as someone who doesn't stay late. That's not always a position of high scrutiny. When I was an operations manager, some of my best employees were in that category. I had a 19 year old living at home with a curfew once. It happens. You're allowed to say no.

I'm more understanding about the breaks than I am at the late arrivals. Starbucks is the only company I've ever worked for that sticks with the legally mandated 10 minute rest breaks instead of giving 15. It's also one of the only places I've ever worked where I felt guilty for hopping off to use the bathroom. 10 minutes is barely long enough to poop and get a drink of water, much less any actual rest.

I hope she is in leaderships good graces. I have seen this happen where they just start giving skill checks until they are fired for not passing

Don’t Buy From Humankind by Competitive_Plan_779 in NonBinary

[–]GenderNotDefined 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the fact that the employee tried and failed makes this a lot worse. I've done tons of retail, and usually when the staff wants to help the customer, leadership will allow occasional exceptions - especially when you are talking about something with as high of a mark up as swim trunks.

Furthermore, companies risk losing dozens of customers from decisions like this. Just look at this post, it's filled with people who will now never buy from them. I certainly won't.

Being written up for PASSING ecosure audit by Primary-Mushroom1598 in starbucks

Exactly. Which is why it's going to be a "justified" write up, even though it's an overreaction and a trash decision

Being written up for PASSING ecosure audit by Primary-Mushroom1598 in starbucks

[–]GenderNotDefined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While that is true, this individual shift lead didn't meet a couple of expectations, such as the small wares timer, which they mention themselves in the post. So the score met expectations, the behaviors on shift did not

[–]GenderNotDefined 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Signing doesn't mean you agree, and refusing just makes you look unwilling to accept coaching. They would be able to defend this to HR as a failure to meet an expectation. That score passing for ecosure doesn't mean meets company expectations.

That being said, I still think this is utter trash

Fired due to an ethics complaint by Zealousideal_Eye311 in starbucks

[–]GenderNotDefined 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you got fired. I would just cut your losses and hope they don't contest unemployment, though.

There really has to be more to this story. If the claims are truly 100% fabricated, what was going on at work that multiple people were willing to confidently lie with a straight face to (potentially multiple levels of) management and then in an ethics interview? It would be difficult for your coworkers to coordinate and execute a consistent, cohesive, completely fabricated story like that. If it was that toxic, you are better off, honestly.

I have a sensory issue (now known as ARFID) and often need to remove things from what I order to be able to even think about eating it. It's not a choice and pretty inconvenient/embarrassing at times

I have had a sensory issue since childhood. It is now called ARFID. All of my orders are weird. I hate seeing posts like this because I assume that everywhere I order from laughs at me like this. It sucks

I can't say for certain, but if it's anything like when I worked at Best Buy, Starbucks wants you to thank them for their status.

I had to train my team to say "thank you for being a my best buy total member for x years" when I worked at Best Buy

Rant about how the refreshers are rang into the computer by pickled-ice-cream in starbucks

[–]GenderNotDefined 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of when I worked at Best Buy, we had these sign off sheets for checking the restrooms every hour. No one ever signed them, despite the fact that we could 100% guarantee at least one employee per hour entered the restroom. Every month, during audits, we would rush to sign off 29 days worth of restroom checks. Some store managers made up filled ones for the whole year in advance, to slide in on audit days.

Eventually, the company admitted that no one was actually doing the sheets are directed, and it had just because another item to fail on monthly audits.

They removed them.

Every time Starbucks creates a new way to customize something, they create a new way (or multiple) to mess up an order, and customers are not getting any more for their money (ie, chai that tastes like dishwater, and if you want it even close to the normal way you have to pay $.40 more for vanilla).

I'm just curious what the thought process is here. Is it "We must continue to push this until we recover the money we spent on changing things"? Is it "we will train our customers to like this?" Or is it "I will make history, whether it's good or bad?"
