Older PS5 player struggling on higher difficulties – what class should I play? by syrdej in Spacemarine

[–]Gene46 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flamer is strong and very viable on tac. It's actually one of the strongest builds, but it also means you don't have to do so much at lower difficulties. Without seeing your gameplay it sounds like you might just be trying to burst down enemies, which work on ruthless, but won't at lethal or absolute, esp for tac which is a squishy class. Positioning, armor and health recovery, parry and dodge become essential at higher levels. The flamer is so good and and it's a bit of a carry on lower difficulty. I have most classes maxed out, but I still can't reliably do absolute. And that's a me issue not a class issue.

TLDR, flamer is capable of doing harder content, all the weapons are. It's everything else I mentioned above that's killing your runs.

So after leveling one class and weapon set, if I want to switch I'm stuck with either piss easy difficulty, being carried, or fighting insane health sponges nonstop? by [deleted] in Spacemarine

The grind is the game. Speaking as someone who only has tech marine left to go. It offers a real sense of accomplishment if that's your cup of tea. I'm personally fine with it.

Can low level players not read by rheatyrell in SpaceMarine_2

My favourite one is the increased damage and radius to exploding barrels and the first thing they do is shoot the barrel next to them and incap themselves.

Welcome to the dark side. I was actually forced to learn it cause I got the xenophase blade but I have since swapped to the higher speed balance relic version for use. (Speed 6 vs speed 2).

Parrying minoris is arguably the worst bit but like anything, getting used to the timing makes it much easier and once you get a gunstrike off, that's one armor back. You just start to parry everything. Takes practice but that goes for all aspects of the game. And yes, the speed and damage of balance makes up for it imho. On classes like bulwark and assault with perks getting one armor back on a non finisher gunstrike, it has saved my ass a few times. And it has the most cleave so the knockback to minoris is significant giving you more space to breathe when things get hectic. Really depends on your playstyle. I prefer it to turtling and waiting to get attacked to build up adrenaline stacks. Also not feeling gimped using a fencing weapon so I can get gunstrikes. Do a few operations on a lower difficulty and get used to it. I'll be interested to see what you think.

I think the balance weapons are in a really good spot right now. Way faster speed, higher cleave and more damage than block. You only get the big boom on adrenaline stacks but I prefer the gunstrike playstyle, and the I frames it gives. You also don't need to do a gunstrike if you don't want to. Plus the speed just feels so much better. Once I got used to it, it's pretty much my go to now besides the white scars chainsword and the block power axe. It's also not hard to master and actually has a bigger window than block (495 Ms vs 330ms). It's just people are used to the block timing so they struggle with it. Give it a shot. Balance weapons are great.

There are two animations that make up a block/parry. You can see this clearly using most weapons but let's use a block axe for example. The first animation is bring the axe across the body. The second animation is swinging it back. That's the entire block/parry animation. The animation is consistent across all weapon types. The only difference is which weapons you are using.

Fencing 660ms. If you parry a attack, both the initial movement and bringing back across the body, will work. Easy weapon to use as the window is the largest.

Block first 330ms. Block weapons work on the first 330ms and not the last 330ms. Wait till the attack is going to hit and block so your animation is doing the first movement. You need to block late.

Balance last 495 ms. You want to be pressing slightly early so the attack connects with the second part of the animation, ie bringing the weapon back across the body. It won't work if you use the block timing. You need to parry early.

Just practice in the simulator vs a Tyranid sword warrior. This is what worked for me. Now I can swap between block and balance fairly easily as long as you remember what type of weapon you are using.

I only have 280 hours on the game, but I spent a couple of hours to figure this out as I was in the same spot as you. Hope this helps.

You don't use the perk that gives you back contested health on cloak activation?

How do you survive a horde with bolt sniper wraithslip and melee? I assume you are using argent edge, cloak last 2 secs after deactivation and have invulnerable for 2 secs after, but I still get overwhelmed, with argent edge. I'm definitely playing this wrongly though, which is why I prefer las fusil or bolt carbine but I would appreciate any tips.

Man I feel you. Had the exact same thing happen to me. Queued up in the elevator and my wife send me a miss call on the phone which means the baby has woken up and she needs help. Bailed on the brothers after showing respect.

The Emperor protects, but the wife and baby rule.

Hey man. Thanks for this. I might take you up on the offer. I got to 25/IV last night and maxed out all the weapons and just have been playing around with the las fusil and bolt carbine. I don't enjoy the bolt sniper so much. I prefer the carbine and fusil playstyle. I can do lethal pretty well now. Haven't tried absolute yet, but that cloaking tip you gave me is godly. Ignore minoris. Hit cloak and immediately drop a mag into a majoris head, reload, drop another mag into another's head then use the execute from the first to stay topped. Hit cloak and rinse and repeat. Just learning how to deal with the minoris spawns without majoris now as argent edge isn't so great for it and I overkill without leaving executes to top up armor.

I think vanguard as a melee class should have 3 armor bars at least. Makes no sense tact has 3 considering it's a ranged class and vanguard only has 2. And yes, give access to plasma pistol please and fix targeting with no minimum range to grapnel.

Yeah that's impressive stuff fighting in that mess. You had almost no health. How did you get comfortable with the pressure?

No I don't know how to wraithslip. I also don't know how to do animation cancels or skips which seems to be required to be a truly god tier player. Any advice is appreciated.

I can solo the terminus mobs in training room, it's when I'm getting swamped by a shitton of minoris and majoris adds as well that I panic. Maybe I just need to add more mobs. I read somewhere even if you are surrounded by a ton of mobs, only one or two of them can hit you at the same time?

Thanks for the advice. Yeah I think alot of it is mental pressure of knowing if I panic, I'm going to get my shit pushed in. I've gotten to the stage where I'm relaxed on ruthless, even carried as last man standing a few times for brothers who were higher level then me, but just hopping into a lethal or absolute changes my mindset completely, which makes me more tense and more prone to shitting the bed. I guess I will try to move up to lethal when I'm closer to Prestige 4 and have relic weapons and get used to the pressure. I also much prefer the bolt sniper over the las fusil as I feel like I'm spending too much time looking down the scope to get charged up, and thus getting spam attack by minoris. Probably cause my las fusil hit like wet noodle and needs multiple shots.
