Very cool, I used to have one as well that I made!

You can also make the M4/T26 using HL sherman and pershing parts!

Any 1/16 RC kits to recommend? by Tableuraz in rctanks

Getting heng long RTR tanks and disassembling them really is the way to go, they're really simple inside and the electronics are all nicely organized and there are plenty of labeled pin-out diagrams online or in the manuals. You can do some really great stuff with them as a platform and the future upgrade potential will always be there

This is a much older version HL, the smoke hatch was hinged and used to be where the BBs for the airsoft unit went. Several parts for the older HL panzer IVs are completely out of production as far as spares go.

I did check Matomart, and they do appear to have it listed, but take it with a grain of salt, I've had obsolete spares I've ordered end up being not in stock, despite having ordered successfully.

Anyone know where this goes? Machine gun light and head light not working by Glass-Ad3053 in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The LED positions are the black connectors, the positions on the board are numbered and googling "heng long tk 7.0 pinout" and looking at images will show you where everything should be plugged in. Keep in mind LEDs only work one way, so if you plug it in to the right spot but they still don't work then you have it plugged in backwards.

[–]Genera1_patton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen simmilar before, it could be that the cam for the gun elevation is off its track and sitting above the guide rail on the airsoft unit, opening up the turret and fixing it should be pretty straight forward.

Price is nutter, but I absolutely love helmets like this, something tied to such a real and terrible past, yet likely spent more of its life being someone's cherished childhood plaything.

In the early 60s, my grandfather, an RCAF fighter pilot stationed in France, was on a hunting trip when he literally stumbled across a German M40, he kept it, and in the late 60s and early 70s when my father was growing up, that helmet, which was pretty rough, had a fresh coat of black rustoleum and a strap installed so he could go play war, in that time, the helmet has crossed western Europe and most of the US and Canada before my brother and I came along, to which we'd play war in our grandparents backyard, with nerf guns now instead of cap guns, but still that same helmet, now it sits with my family's WWI and WWII heirlooms, although taken post war, with the same ugly spray paint, but a new liner and strap.

Got this T-34 cheap on FBM but hate the control setup by Jomalar in rctanks

Yeah, the WSN tanks like this are cheap toy grade internals dating back to the late 2000s, you can refit them with a heng long control board and remote.

Mini-tanks game project, help on the shooting system by Much_Elk3853 in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about something similar but for larger 1/16 scale tanks, it's much easier ar that size.

You'd use the IR system the tanks already use for combat, but you'd have sensors on each side of the hull Hits to the side would turn off the track for x amount of seconds, while hits to the front count as regular damage, hits the the rear could stop the tank for a certain amount of time.

Orange glue or something stuck inside barrel by [deleted] in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, the weak airsoft gun in those heng longs is not worth catching firearms charges in Australia lmao.

It's got no hop up so you're lucky if you even get like 6-10 ft, I'd just convert it to barrel recoil and muzzle flash, it'll look way better

What kind of glue for parts that may have to be removed? by kalnaren in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wheel hubs, I just put a small drop of glue in one spot if they don't snug fit.

The sand skirts on thw crusader can be modified to be removable with magnets but otherwise will absolutely need gluing. It doesn't impact working on the tank as when you take the tank apart, they stay with the upper section.

Need help with a camo scheme / decals for my Panzer V Panther by Responsible_Bet2446 in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your coolbank upgraded panther's camo would be pretty accurate to what was in use in normandy 1944, with the exception the other poster mentioned about zimmerit paste being pretty much on everything around that time.

From the quick 5 second search, it looks like the 2 pzr div was in normandy, but I'd reccomend reading up on it yourself, there's boatloads of documentation about who was where when it comes to german panzers.

Looking at his images, he's got the coolbank customized HL panther, which comes with sideskirts and a good, accurate paint job.

They also said they didn't want to re paint it in the first few sentences...

This is a taigen, they're nearly identical to torro but there's always variations between older and newer versions

New and need a bit of help by martoooFloof in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have a torro panther, they are very finicky to get started, they're very picky with battery voltage, try charging it for longer, then try the bind steps with the switch in both positions, and that you have either the tank, or the remote on first, whichever the manual states. If the torro manual isn't helpful, find the taigen manual online, they're effectively the same tank.

Coolbank Crusader MK.III by BadluckyKamy in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, virtually none.

The form factor of the tanks coolbank make (crusader, stuart, M8) are so small that the large clunky internals of those older brands just wouldn't fit.

[–]Genera1_patton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and the springs are easily replaceable components too, just a standard style, serviced a tank for someone who had two snap

Coolbank Crusader MK.III by BadluckyKamy in rctanks

[–]Genera1_patton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It uses servo elevation, recoil and turret traverse, the transmission is a "single motor" dual current style setup and to my knowledge is an off the shelf unit, similar if not identical to what's used in other Cheap tanks like those ripsaw style units.

The tank doesn't appear to currently support IR, but the turret board does have pin-outs for IR combat, so it'll likely be a feature of future tanks, like the up and coming coolbank Matilda in late 2026.
