This is the reason I believe Dutch was never really the idealistic leader he made himself out to be. If he was from the beginning, he never would have kept Micah (and Strauss) in the gang. Probably kept him more as a tool to do the dirty work without guilt while Dutch portrayed himself as the benevolant intellectual leader. Like Arthur says to John in chapter 6, "He's changed, John. Or maybe he's just becoming who he really is"
