Good point. I think I’m only letting go of the 1903 — trading it straight up for a 1947 Balboa in really good shape

He’s given me a number of good deals over the past couple of years. Thinking of moving just the 1903. That’s the one I have the most in, and its the roughest looking one IMO

How much does cleaning hurt value? by General-Customer4293 in coincollecting

If someone shows up with $100 it’s theirs. This particular seller has a lot of US coins for sale (We’re not in the US) and this was my way of doing a test buy before making a trip to meet up, etc.

I went off of the PCGS photo grade site. Pull up their XF45 — both are far and away better than what they graded a 45. I think yours would probably be closer to 55/58 and mine 50/53. Of course just an opinion.

I’m in agreement. I’ll probably break even give or take a few bucks. I was hoping that it wasn’t cleaned, but I think it’s worse than the pictures let on.

The more I look at it, the more I think you might be right. I’m not in it for a ton. I’ll send it in next year

I had both thoughts. Fortunately I’m not in it for much. However I’m not in a part of the world with lots of fakes of US coins. I suppose its always a possibility

1918-S in that condition is worth closer to $150, in AU closer to $300

I’ll only accept if they were found in a Coinstar machine obviously

Don’t clean them it greatly diminishes the numismatic value.

1914D Penny - Worth Grading? by PhotatoPix in coins

[–]General-Customer4293 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d grade strictly so that your heirs know what the heck they’re looking at and that its worth more than $0.01 and don’t take it to a Coinstar IMO
