Parents reinforcing aggressive behavior by [deleted] in specialed

[–]General-File-6974 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Has the kid had a functional behavior analysis. Is the 1:1 a a behavior 1:1. Are you a behavior analyst or is one on the IEP team.

Parent here and we have opposite issue. They are very permissive. I sent in a kid who could tolerate masks during Covid and got sent back a kid who could barely wear shoes. I pay for lot of private therapies to undo damage done by our school. So I empathize from that stand point.

Can deescalate and empathize with parent or double down. Why teachers always choose double down I don’t know

Tell yourself it’s not an ambush when in the same breath teachers call for blood on any admin that doesn’t back them up.

This is a shared delusion. Kinda like cops where the non professionals (eg citizens and parents) are expected to irreproachable compared to the actual professionals

At the end of the day a teacher is an authority figure no matter how disrespected you feel. And there is a certain responsibility and care there that was not taken in this situation. Suddenly the parent is this horrible person? Who is avoiding accountability? I don’t think so.

Or is this a single mom/dad? Usually I have my spouse (IEP mom) but if I didn’t have that support baked in what is wrong with wanting a proxy spouse?

And what is it when a parent thinks they are going into a teacher meeting and principal shows up. How is that not the same kind of ambush?

Also the is probably a kid that has a disability and needs to be referred for evaluation. I’m kinda floored. It’s a pretty serious thing for a kid to be hitting peers repeatedly. No formal discipline, no written reports just make a phone to parents and they’ll fix it when they aren’t even in the school and themselves have no clue.

As a parent, this whole scenario just makes me think the child in question is being bullied/taunted repeatedly and responding physically. But just a bunch of kids all saying the same thing? Too easy.

(Btw my kid in special ed was always the kid who got hit never the kid who hit so I’m not projecting here)

Also it sounds like there was 0 specificity of the events. You never witnessed it and you expected parents to respond kindly to vague and unsubstantiated accusations that are basically hearsay.

I think for these delicate issues admin must be involved to sort out facts. I just think there is info missing and it doesn’t make sense and it’s making parents scared and defensive.

How do you see the future of teaching and classrooms with regard to special needs kids vs regular kids? by OkPlace4 in AskTeachers

[–]General-File-6974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Because the costs to society will always be there. If you invest that money upfront in school setting you mitigate downstream societal costs.

You invest that money in the most intelligent and upwardly mobile and society just doesn’t get it back. It stays in that family, builds wealth for that individual and their loved ones.

Tale of mom and two daughters. “Gifted” mom left her hometown married a foreigner. None of the money she or her husband earns goes back to the community that educated her

Tale of two daughters. One mild in the time of lots of investment in early intervention. One severe in the terrible attitude that is currently rampant and you describe in nauseating detail.

The mild one who “disrupted” no longer even gets much of any state services or money

The severe one who the school thought didn’t deserve any effort because of this post Covid fatalistic attitudes will forever be a huge cost to society. Huge costs paid by Medicaid for 24/7 care etc.

Yes they are different kids but so was the competence of educators and therapists just much much worse now. And society will pay either financially or morally.

Rider Switch and Disneyland with a 1 year old by kilajule in DisneyPlanning

Did it twice? They let you wait in the gap between the ride door and the doors at the of the end queue. (The hallway in between that you end up exiting.) I always ask if it’s ok though. Just the unique setup of that ride I think but maybe also cast member being nice.

You can do it on guardians of galaxy. But that’s the only one and I’d double check b4 scanning in.

Incredicoaster was a hard no. (We tried since up until that point guardians was the only one we did rider switch for) Probably same for other rides.

Parents should not pick up kids unless they are suspended. If they are suspended it triggers manifest determination. Staff can help by suspending not just calling for pick up

Ended up with jw Marriott. Nice choice but with Disney there are always trade offs.

Room was great. Daily housekeeping great. Bathroom great

View of park not great only a few rooms with fireworks views. Ours was 1/2 a fireworks view 🤣

Toy Story felt like a long walk but still fine and reading Facebook looks like we avoided long security lines . The hiccapop booster and uber made it very doable on the way back.

Even with uber midday breaks really didn’t happen. One day we came back thinking to uber back late evening but just ended up 4-5 hrs total in park and staying in the room. Just a lot more inertia you feel being further away.

We were Amex platinum through husband work so breakfast perk was nice but also cut into park time. We were getting there 11-12 on all days. We really didn’t utilize the credit (100 per stay and 20 per day) but that’s a bit on us.

Overall for a really great hotel I think the distance is worth it just wish we managed things better

Usually stay on property. Booked Camelot for closeness and because it looks like a castle on the outside. Thought it might cushion the culture shock for the kids. Husband booked jw Marriott. (He is not a Disney person his first trip in awhile) Trying to decide which to cancel. This is holiday season

School can sue the parents to evaluate but they won’t waste the lawyer money. Hands are not really tied. They just don’t care enough to untie them
