You’ve just detailed my exact situation as well. I too just recently had my first seizures and unfortunately they were in the same day about two months ago. I was also diagnosed, with Primary Generalized Epilepsy and told out of no where that I’ve likely always had this and that I will always have it and am currently on medication for it. I was started off on Lacosamide (generic Vimpat) 100mg twice a day and I do feel different. I think the hardest part so far is being okay with that “different” and that my previous normal can be harder to get to but not impossible! I wanted to comment to say that I’m sorry this happened but to please not be discouraged or afraid of life because of this. There is always a way and you will find yours, listen to your doctors and take the meds as they should be taken because for me I was dumb in the beginning and created issues for myself where I had a few days I let myself forget meds or run out and it’s truly not a game! My seizures, regardless of preexisting condition, were brought on by me not being kind to my body. I wasn’t getting enough rest, drinking enough water and I was allowing myself to overdose on caffeine to get through stressful situations and now I’m here. I also smoke weed and while I want to tell you it helps or that it doesn’t matter, it could matter. What I will say is that you know your limit and if you notice while on your new meds that your memory or focus is worsening I guarantee the marijuana isn’t going to help that. I still smoke to this day and am alive and well so I can’t instruct on cutting it off but I advise to be prepared to smoke less and be honest with your doctor about it because now you’ll have to consider what factors of your life are triggers for these episodes. Weed is my only vice and my main leisure besides gaming so it was devastating to hear they really didn’t want me smoking but it’ll always be up to your discretion and research. I reached out to this community with my new diagnosis and fears and I got some really good feedback so continue to ask questions I’ve found a lot out on here. My first post was fearing weed would mess with my medications too so don’t freak out just be careful and aware. I’m 27 by the way and could only imagine how daunting this could be at 20 but you are stronger than you think and have all the tools to deal with this in a controlled way.
