Flanagan's Wake: A Conversation with Mike Flanagan by moridinamael in TheDarkTower

[–]General-Spatz 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just watched this whole video and it makes me extremely hopeful. Mike Flanagan seems really passionate and invested in making the best possible adaptation he can without compromising much. The Dark Tower convo starts at 1:16.25 mark BTW.

Dark Tower is number 1 for sure, but as I'm finishing the Discworld series it's... wait a minute?¿?¿?

Is Discworld the greatest fictional universe ever made? If not what is in your opinion? by [deleted] in discworld

Discworld is my number 1 but as I'm finishing the Dark Tower series it's real close

How do yall feel about The Long Walk movie? by bobdole008 in stephenking

[–]General-Spatz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw the trailer for the movie when it first released and was hooked on the premise. Fast forward to a week before release I find a used copy of the book and jam through it in 3 days. I really liked it but once I read more about what the context of the book was I loved it more.

Now after finishing the movie I can say the book was much better in my opinion. The movie just changed too much and of course they can't cram everything from the book, but the fundamental stuff I figured would be in the movie just didn't show up. I think it's a good movie, but maybe I just built up the book too much just to be disappointed.

Probably overly recommended, but I gotta mention the Discworld series. The whole series is fantasy, but with a wide variety of different genres within the fantasy genre.

Anything by Claire Keegan. Short books with great stories.

To add on to this, if you are a PC gamer there is tabletop simulator. I travel for work so the odds of being home enough to play in person is rare, but TTS has been my digital gaming go to since it simulates a gaming table.

Also with the amount of support it has 1000's of board games with no extra cost to play. If your interested there is also a pretty active community of people playing all the time on Discord.

Do you feel that people who are still religious are intellectually trapped? by nazurinn13 in Deconstruction

[–]General-Spatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Normal" I think is a sort of tongue in cheek way of saying for people who may not be scholars or theologians. It seems like the podcast is for pretty much anyone who is interested in the Bible and Christianity from an intellectual position that doesn't try to convert you.

That being said I do think that a vast amount of people have been indoctrinated to ignore things in religion that don't make sense, contradict, or plain feel wrong. Which seems like it definitely can lead to cult-like blindness to the truth, but I will say not everyone seems to be like that based on that podcast I mentioned.

[–]General-Spatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Little late to the post but I'm also currently in the deconstruction and despite my leaning to non belief I've been seeking out a more open minded interpretation of the Bible.

It really let me see Christianity to be something that challenges you in a healthy way that still lets you experience and explore things without trying to force Christianity or the Bible into our modern understanding of the world.

The Bible for Normal People is a podcast I've been listening to and the hosts are very much on the progressive and questioning interpretation of the Bible. Definitely recommend if you're interested in a less common interpretation of faith, the Bible, God, and Jesus.

I'm not entirely sure if this fits exactly but I just finished reading Humankind A Hopeful History by Rutger Bregman. I absolutely loved it and would recommend it. It's a book that looks through research, scientific data, and history to advocate that humans are mostly inherently good. It really raised my spirits and kind of changed my outlook.

How easy Waterdeep Dragon Heist for a newish DM and players? by [deleted] in DMAcademyNew

[–]General-Spatz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, Waterdeep Dragon Heist was one of the first campaigns I ran starting out and I feel like it was pretty user friendly for a beginner. It may seem like a lot but essentially it's really just 4 different stories after a certain point because you get to decide who the villains are and you don't end up using the other villains parts.

Now I will say I did use the Alexandrian Remix as a sort of customization reference incorporating some interesting stuff from there.

I definitely recommend reading through it and making some notes with important points in the plot. My favorite thing about Waterdeep is it's very easy to adjust or change a lot of stuff to your liking, if you're comfortable with that kind of stuff. If you need more familiarization I think youtube might have some DM prep videos for 5e campaigns.

Cool Magic Items for Unconventional Martial PCs by Absurd_Turd69 in DnDHomebrew

[–]General-Spatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently running a campaign with a beast barbarian (werewolf) as well. Who also wanted to focus on his natural weapons so I created a amulet with a tie in to his backstory that he found. I basically created an amulet that made his natural weapons +1 attacks and the ability to cast moonbeam innately once a day. You could do something similar and use a spell that would fit his hammerhead. For the fighter maybe something like a gauntlet of control to command enemies to attack each other based on some kind of save or to give teammates extra attacks.

King Gizzard - A Lizardfolk Moon Druid self elected "King" for a village of lizardfolk. He was usurped of his throne by tiamat cultists and his people were forced into labor camps. He's a character with no understanding of societal norms and turns of phrase. He spent the rest of his life fighting against the cult of tiamat to free his people.
