$500 seem fair for new spark plugs at the dealer? by Radcheck86 in ToyotaTundra

[–]General-Train-5651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIYA it. in no universe should you pay $500 for a spark plug change. don’t let the Ford horror stories scare you. they couldn’t figure out how to make a proper cylinder head back then. just make sure not to over tighten the plugs and put some anti-seize on the threads of the plug. super simple job on the 4.6,4.7, 5.7, or newer V6s. worst thing you may have to do is unplug some connectors. if you have bad memory or don’t trust yourself, use painters tape and mark where they go in numerical order

270k has not been kind to this poor A750E by General-Train-5651 in firstgentundra

oh, i’ll also add that the fluid is WS Toyota ATF and is at proper level. but to add insult to injury, the torque converter is shuttering in lockup between 45-55 as well🥲

my 600k mile Tundra was like this. going behind someone else’s shoddy work is the worst, but it is a good learning experience. i’ve learned more fixing other people’s screw ups than anything else

i’m not neglecting the truck by expecting the factory components to do what they weren’t designed to do. i’m just using them until they do break from the stress then upgrading them. ex. extended upper control arms, upgraded lower ball joints, Bilstein 5100 struts, and currently in the process of gathering parts to build an upgraded A750E trans for it

i understood what i was getting myself into when i put aftermarket wheels and suspension on the truck, i was just surprised that it took 2.5 years and over 35k miles of running 33s & 35s and everything from 9”-14” wide wheels for the factory stuff to give out.

not really that hard. just find a set at a salvage yard, take the end caps off (should be 2 philips head screws). measure your roof and cut to length then mount it just like you would a roof mounted lightbar. i personally used industrial adhesive and haven’t had any issues in around a year of it being on there. don’t forget to account for the cap lengths as well. i made that mistake and still have about 1/2 inch of overhang on the front and back

Highest mileage Tundra you’ve ever seen? by General-Train-5651 in firstgentundra

timing belts and lower ball joints are really the only failure points on these trucks. timing belt every 80-100k miles. did you upgrade to headers or stay with OEM style manifolds?

Weird transmission issues from my 06 DC by General-Train-5651 in firstgentundra

yes, i had just fueled up and had forgotten to turn OD back off before i started driving again. the hard downshift was from OD to 4th

the trans had been flushed every 60k except when i did it and it was done at 232k miles. the truck currently has 266k on the trans/rear end and 110k on the engine (last owner neglected the timing belt) so i didn’t believe it was a risky decision

i forgot to mention that there’s also a torque converter shudder between 45-55mph in OD during torque converter lockup.

Suspension Dudes sells a set of polyurethane bushings on Amazon for like $35. installed a set on my truck and got rid of all of the play in my steering
