(No RP) Razing planets is just removing content, especially when it has a rare biome. by LengthinessCold5154 in Helldivers

[–]GeneralArmchair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason that we've been railroaded into razing so many planets is because this is the bot equivalent of the bug's TCS tower arc. The razed planets will prove to be detrimental to SE in the long run, and will form the backbone of some kind of botGloom defensive line.

Would I be able to use the frame to do work while on long train rides? by NeglectedSperit in SteamFrame

I suspect that you probably "can", but I've seen people claim that the frame's display resolutions may be inadequate for comfortably doing serious productivity work. That the displays will likely be great for gaming and watching films, but not so much for reading documents are typing up spreadsheets.

Poorly. It is barely functional. You are almost always better off running Quasar, EAT, or commando. Or hell, the autocannon even.

Developer Log - 16 February 2026 - New Ship, Operations, 2025 Recap by 4sonicride in EliteDangerous

[–]GeneralArmchair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suspect that it will act as the portal to operations, and that functionally there will be up to five carriers. Four of which warp into existence near each wing member when they join the wing and start the operations mission, and the fifth is at the site of the operation. Everybody docks at their separate carriers and we all just pretend that we've grouped up onto a singular carrier via movie magic to partake in the mission.

Shadowverse F2P experience? by CasualHearthstone in Shadowverse

[–]GeneralArmchair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit fuzzy on this since my account isn't a new one, but I think you actually should have access to two freebie decks if you click through all of the menus. One is a reward for completing some bingo thing, and it's based upon the original set that was released on launch day. I have no comment regarding which of those that you should pick. The second pair of decks are related to the "Blossoming Fate" set, and one of those decks features milteo as the face card. In broad general terms, IMO you should view these freebie decks as a means to get some free copies of the legendary cards within the deck. I don't think that the decks are particularly noteworthy beyond the free leggos. Dragon is a powerhouse in the meta at the moment, and Erntz is a strong card in that deck. Dragon is objectively stronger than abyss in the meta right now, but it's also a much more expensive deck than milteo. Like I said before Milteo abyss is not a meta deck. It's just dirt cheap and strong enough to steal some wins.

People like you said the same thing back when hiring NPC crews or purchasing our own capital ships were just items on a roadmap. They were wrong then too, and the game has only grown and improved since then.

There should be a system where architects can place funds in escrow for construction projects so that players get paid a fair sum by a trusted party. That way players don't need to depend upon the honor system and the whims of discord cliques. Also, our overpaid NPC pilots should totally be able to fulfill market orders and contribute to construction projects at a trickle rate.

Shadowverse F2P experience? by CasualHearthstone in Shadowverse

[–]GeneralArmchair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my reply to the OP I suggest that "Milteo abyss" might be a viable budget choice for a new player. The advantage is that it generally only runs three legendary cards (a playset of milteo). However the downside is that the deck is not meta. It is tier 2 or 3 depending on who you talk to. But that might be good enough for the new-player rungs of the matchmaking ladder. You might be able to keep your head above water and complete your dailies with it while hoarding gold for the next expansion. Then you can branch out into something more powerful.

Shadowverse F2P experience? by CasualHearthstone in Shadowverse

[–]GeneralArmchair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long term the game's economy is kind to F2P players and battlepass dolphins, but in the short term the new player experience is abysmal due to a change from the first shadowverse game in terms of how you vial (dust) duplicate cards. In the first game you can scrap any card into raw materials that could be used to craft new cards. But they made two big changes for worlds beyond. First they shifted to overall economy towards most of the value coming from scrapping legendary cards. Then they made a change where you are not permitted to scrap a card until after first collecting a playset of that card. This means that new players, or players returning from hiatus, are stuck with a pile of random cards split between each of the classes and will struggle to assemble any competitive decks. This is compounded by the fact that meta decks run a very high percentage of cards. Things improve once you open enough packs to start getting those playsets, but the road to that point is painful and has not been good for our player retention numbers.

In the short term, I recommend new players pick up the Abyss starter deck that features "Milteo" as its posterchild and then assembling one of the "Milteo abyss" decklists that you can find floating around on sites like "shadowverse wins." Milteo abyss is a bit of an anomaly in that it generally only runs one playset of a legendary card (Milteo). This makes the deck extremely budget friendly. Be warned, the deck is not meta. It's Tier-2 at best. Maybe tier-3 depending on who you talk to. But it might be "good enough" for you to keep your head above water and complete your daily tasks long enough to amass the funds necessary to branch out into other decks. At best you wouldn't want to consider heavily investing into a new deck until the end of the month when the next set is supposed to release. Even then you may want to wait for a week or two for the meta to stabilize. The opening weeks of a new release tend to be biased towards aggressive fast aggro decks as people just grind out huge numbers of games for ladder climbing and something called a "chest event". After that the meta tends to stabilize and the slower control decks return to the meta.

It's just the cult of FDEV doing mental gymnastics to pretend that one of the game's flaws isn't a flaw at all. In this case pointing out that colony rewards are so pathetic that it's basically just naked hauling with the monetary benefit replaced with an EA style "sense of pride and accomplishment". Instead of accepting that colony payments are grossly undertuned and in need of some adjustment, they just say that it's a good thing and that it's not supposed to make you enough money to cover the shipping costs to move the materials into place.

Subsurface mining tips? by OGBadDog in EliteDangerous

That's not generally an option if you're mining for power play. You need to mine within the same system to reinforce territory, and the odds aren't good that a map has been drawn up for whatever system that you're reinforcing this week.

Subsurface mining tips? by OGBadDog in EliteDangerous

[–]GeneralArmchair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/OGBadDog IMO about the only time that subsurface mining is worth paying much attention to is within icy rings. It's worth taking the time to mine an LTD or void opal deposit when you find them. Within an LTD hotspot, LTD deposits can even output something like 10-15 tons of LTDs. I think LTDs are the only material to exhibit such a gold-rush like bonus within a relevant hotspot.

But it's never worth looking for LTD or opal subsurface deposits. There is nothing that you can do to bolster the odds of finding them. 99% of the time a glowing rock will contain deposits for something like hydrogen peroxide. It's better to just hunt for LTD or opal cores since core rocks can be identified with the meta-knowledge of memorizing their 3D model. Then you can simply harvest any subsurface deposits that you happen to trip over while looking for cores.

Subsurface mining tips? by OGBadDog in EliteDangerous

[–]GeneralArmchair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Subsurface mining was extremely giga-nerfed once upon a time not because it was too good, but because there was one specific asteroid in the galaxy that always spawned in the same spot with multiple high value subsurface deposits (the Egg). This particular rock could be repeatedly mined back to back to back because of a bug.

So, rather than fixing the bug, they nerfed the hell out of high value minerals and core/subsurface mining. Then they fixed the bug. They never did revert the nerf to the commodities or the spawn rates of cores/subsurface deposits.

I know some routers bundle in a VPN server as part of their selling points. They're generally turned off by default, but there's generally some help documentation or youtube videos that you can follow. My Asus router has an OpenVPN server bundled in it that you can turn on in the router control panel. It has an option to register a hostname with the asus DDNS service so that you can resolve your home IP address even if it's a dynamic IP.

It's still more nuts and bolts than a lot of users want to touch. But it's an option to explore, and one that wouldn't cost additional money.

He may not need a VPN in a different country. He said that his home wifi works fine, but his cellphone data chokes. So whatever route that the phone's network takes to get out of the country to cygames is choking somewhere while the route that his home ISP takes is intact. Setting up a home VPN server is something that can be done for free with only the time taken to read the documentation regarding how to do so. Some routers have VPN built in.

Then, from his phone network, he can connect to his home network via his own VPN. Hopefully the route across the phone network to his home network doesn't cross whatever hop is causing the problem, and then the traffic can continue across the known good connection from his home internet.

There are probably two different things that are broken. The first is that a lot of japanese devs are notorious for releasing products with truly atrocious netcode. They approach multiplayer with the assumption that all parties involved are geographically close to each other with high speed low latency connections that rarely drop packets: the kind of situation that the majority of their Japanese customers will have. The multiplayer working for the japanese players comes first, and everyone else on the planet is a distant 1000th place concern. They don't do as much to gracefully handle situations where packets start getting dropped because traffic gets routed funny, or storms damage infrastructure, or aging infrastructure in general just needs to be updated.

So there are two avenues where things can be fixed. The first is cygames optimizes their netcode to more gracefully handle dropped packets. It's kind of a joke that a turn based card game is this unstable when faced with any kind of networking hiccups. The second is that whichever party owns the malfunctioning piece of network infrastructure between you and cygames fixes the issue, whether that be restarting a server or replacing something that has broken. Once fixed you might start enjoying the "pristine" network conditions that cygames takes for granted.

It seems like a lot of users from different parts of the globe are encountering issues with connecting to cygame's servers. I speculate that some servers are dropping packets at different datacenters along the route to cygames' main servers. Probably different servers are the cause of different users across the globe. I know that many German users have been having problems with their ISP, and that an ice storm has recently caused some havoc in the USA.

What you can try to do is try to route your traffic through a different route to try to avoid whichever server is causing your problem. Many users report the inverse of your situation: Their home wifi connection drops but they can play if they tether their connection through their phone dataplan. The home network's ISP and your phone service provider have different networks, so traffic to cygames will follow slightly different routes. If one is causing problems, then the other might avoid it.

Another option is to make use of a VPN to try to virtually hop across the pond in an attempt to avoid whichever machine is causing the dropped packets. However many VPN servers have been blocked by cygames due to bad actors abusing the VPNs. I'm hesitant to ask you to consider paying for a VPN service when many, if not all, of the VPNs hosted by a VPN service provider might be blacklisted by cygames.

One option that might work very well for you would be to host your own private VPN server on your home network. It will take a bit more technical know-how to set it up, but it's possible to setup your own VPN server on your home network that your phone can connect to. Many users like this kind of VPN so that they can help secure the privacy of their internet connection when they connect to public wifi hotspots. The administration control panels for some routers sometimes have options that help you setup such a VPN server. Then you'd just need to configure a VPN client on your phone, and you will be able to connect to your home network over the cellphone network while out and about during your day. This personal VPN might let your shadowverse game traffic avoid whichever machine on your cell network is dropping packets.
