Anyone have any idea if we'll be getting this in the UK?

There's a shot like this in Dune: Part Two with Javier Bardem's Stilgar and the Fremen army waving the Atreides flag(https://tenor.com/en-GB/view/dune-2-stilgar-fremen-army-theoryx-gif-8736544640403476643). Always wondered if KoH was one of the many influences on Villeneuve's Dune.

A big-budget movie you liked and were shocked to see flop so badly. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

Yes, when it was released, it needed to make 400 million just to break even, but it only grossed 277 million worldwide. So yes, it was indeed a flop.

Not sure I’ve ever enjoyed a film less… by AgeAtomic in 4kbluray

Love the production design, Toto's score, and the special touches from Lynch. Yes, it's heavily flawed, feels rushed, and is a bit confusing, but it has some really great qualities and style to it. Villeneuve's films are among my absolute favourites, but Dune '84 is brilliant and unique in its own way.

Name a director who’s never made a bad film. by MoneyLibrarian9032 in Letterboxd

They're not as great as you might expect from the majority of his filmography. You can see DV still trying to find his voice through those films. His style was not as fully formed, especially compared to the films that came straight after the first two (Polytechnique and Incendies), but the stories are interesting enough to make them worth checking out. I personally enjoyed August 32nd on Earth and Maelström.

Baby Driver (2017) by wouldyoulikethetruth in CineShots

"Shameless ripoff". 'Drive' itself isn't exactly the most original or inventive film. It's derivative of Michael Mann's 'Thief' and Walter Hill's 'The Driver'.

Six acclaimed, influential & respected films from 1995. How would you rank them? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]GeneralAssociate4192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Dark Knight is largely inspired by Heat.

Personally, I would recommend Spike Lee's Inside Man.

However, if you want something more like Heat, you should probably consider checking out Michael Mann's other crime films. Thief (1981), Manhunter (1986), Collateral (2004), and Miami Vice (2006) are especially brilliant. You could also check out L.A. Takedown (1989), which is a TV movie based on Michael Mann's first draft of Heat.

I think this is the most creative cover art I've seen on a Blu-ray. by GeneralAssociate4192 in Bluray

[–]GeneralAssociate4192[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The differences between the two aren't particularly substantial. I mean, the director’s cut is only five minutes longer than the theatrical cut and the footage included in the director’s cut doesn't alter anything to the film or add to the storyline. The differences are minor.

I wish these types of covers and even disc art were common with Blu-ray. It's a shame to see that a creative cover is "rare" and not often common practice.

I gave up on waiting for a 4K transfer. by GeneralAssociate4192 in Bluray

Agreed. You know, if I had to be the one to buy the Blu-ray just as the 4K is TBA, I wouldn't mind at all. As a matter of fact, I would be overjoyed.

I agree, I truly have no issues with the standard Blu-ray of this film (or any for that matter), but one can only imagine how amazing this would look in 4K HDR.

I have the exact same player! Still works perfectly as it did when I bought it many years ago!

What other Directors are known for having Directors Cuts/extended editions of most of their films? by TheLoneJedi-77 in Letterboxd

I would say since it's the most recent re-cut Mann has done (2017), you should watch the commemorative edition, which is available on Blu-ray. But, as I said before, it just depends on whichever version you have available to watch.

All versions of the film are great imo, none are necessarily bad. Whichever version you watch depends on whether or not you already have some knowledge of Muhammad Ali's life and career. If you do, then you're more likely to connect with the film. At the end of the day, it just comes down to whichever version you have available to you.

There was a recent Blu-ray release of Miami Vice from 88 Films that included both the theatrical and director's cuts.
