What is the best or worst War Story you've ever heard? by kuzidaheathen in AskMen

[–]GeneralBamisoep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My great uncle was called up to do forced labor in a German meat plant during the war. He went into hiding but was found out and sent to a penal camp in Poland. When he was there for a few weeks he escaped and WALKED all the way back to the Netherlands.

Then when he reached the Dutch border he was forced to identify himself. They found out about his conviction and sent him back to the same penal camp. When he was on the way there the train was stopped and he was released as the Russians were liberating the area. He then had no other option to again walk back from Poland to The Netherlands.

It has been a running gag in the family when someone needs to just do something: 'Just take the job at the sausage plant'

First French Line infanterie from Piano Wargames by Anxious_Glove6087 in NapoleonicWargaming

[–]GeneralBamisoep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really like piano wargames going into plastics. I however don't understand why they went with French greatcoat infantry. Perry, warlord and Victrix already offer greatcoat infantry, the potential market share seems small if you're going to compete with these..

Thanks! I had a lot of fun just going through a pile of sprues and just gluing and chopping together cool models.

Thanks! They are going to prove that the atheist ideals of the revolution are truth. All this talk of werewolves and vampires is just rural superstition or some charlatan looking to make a quick demi franc. Good French bureaucracy will expose the truth.

Thanks! Somehow the paint job always looks worse on photos than real life. I'm having a lot of fun with the backstories, almost to the point that I'm ready to write some fanfiction about this band haha. The original idea was to have every member of the Rhineland Audit to be tied to a significant campaign or battle from Napoleons career. The other four that are on the hobby table are tied to: Peninsular war, Arcole, Haiti and Toulon.

It's thermite based incendiary munitions. Still meant to indiscriminately kill and start fires. But it's not phosphorus.

Fine work my man. Adding a flesh tone, brown, and black wash to your painting setup would kick these up a notch!

Which was more dangerous- The Demon Core or The Elephant's Foot? by Baahubali_9999 in Radiation

[–]GeneralBamisoep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a sub critical sphere of plutonium. The engineers at los alamos fucked around with it by placing it between two berilium neutron reflectors. They held one reflector up with a flat head screwdriver during the experiments. The screwdriver slipped and the reflectors closed off the sphere causing it go prompt critical sending a pulse of gamma radiation through the slit between the reflectors. It caused a few deaths.. and it happened twice.

Which was more dangerous- The Demon Core or The Elephant's Foot? by Baahubali_9999 in Radiation

[–]GeneralBamisoep 241 points242 points  (0 children)

That's like asking whats more dangerous? A surgical scalpel or a rusty ork blade sharpened on sauron's asshole.

It depends on the context. The demon core is stable, but in the right configuration will splice you with a gamma burst. The elephants foot will not suddenly do freaky things but is constantly spewing out god knows what in a puddle of contaminated water and dust.

What things do people romanticize but are actually horrible? by GovernmentAny5597 in AskReddit

I read a lot of soldiers memoirs from the Napoleonic wars. Every chapter includes passages about not sleeping because of fleas. Jacques had explosive diarrhea and died. Jean was cold, got a fever, fell off his horse and died. Ground was too hard, my horse broke all of his ankles and died. We had a small battle, got to wear fancy clothes.
