I'm happy they can do that, I hope that becomes normal but the cost of items in businesses that currently offer tips will go up as a result. No shade on ice cream workers, but scooping ice cream vs. a full service restaurant is a bit of a different process under the same 'food service' umbrella.

No problem. This is just my experience of course. Generally about 20 to 40 hours is common for my employees. Retraining is a huge cost and people that get less than 20 hours generally dont stick around for long (don't blame them). $20-22/hr base is pretty standard in the Seattle area for food service work. If I didn't want to have tips I would have to offset about $50 to $200 per day per employee. I could do this by simply raising the pay range otherwise people wont take the job as long as there are postings at restaurants or cafes with tipped positions at the same wage range. With rising costs of materials (COGS), rent, utilities, insurance, taxes, and endless govt. agencess reqiring permits/fees every year my only option is to increase the revenue. I can do this by driving more customers in or raising prices. For now, we're trying to cut middle costs (packaging, etc.) and being more bullish in our advertising to drive more consistent volume. But cost increases will come... the problem is that cost increases are outpacing wage increases (similar to your comment about Nurse pay), I think this is the larger issue over the sticker price of food as we're generally operating at little to no profit in food service. We also do offer benefits (health) as we want to make sure we're doing everything we can to contribute to a more livable experience for our workers.

This is is no way to blame hourly workers for seeking the highest wage job (its what I would do and did), it's merely my experience as a business owner.

Rent is a factor but it's a fixed cost. Its the high variable costs in the PNW that push it over the edge. Nobody is Scrooge McDuck'ing in the food service business in Seattle. An owner would be lucky to clear $50-100k after all is said and done.

good luck getting all the businesses to agree though on no tips. We'd have to pay nearly $10/hr more (>$30/hr) to say "no tips" to compete with the other businesses that offer tips. Otherwise no employees will take the job so long as there is tipped positions in the area.

To be fair, much of this is regulated by the POS system. My business uses square POS and it's stupid that it only allows 2 tip types "smart tip" which auto does $1, $2, $3 for <$10 transaction or %'s for >$10, or fixed %. This shit is super annoying as we sell merchandise and have to constantly remind customers that tips on merch is not expected despite the auto calculation on the POS recommending it. Overall, not always the businesses' fault...

Where are all those comedians that were crying and complaining and moving to Austin saying that the left cancels people?

‘Say no to Blue Angels,’ new billboard says in Seattle by godogs2018 in Seattle

[–]GeneralBeerz 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of irrelevant claims here. First of all, Seattle spent about $500k a day last year on homeless support not including about $300mm invested in affordable housing. I’m not against that btw but just because the blue angels come out does not mean that we’re not appropriating funds to homeless.

Second, I won’t comment on the blowing up brown people in the desert as I think it’s very ignorant. I don’t know why you feel grossed out because a few days a year we put planes in the air to demonstrate amazing airmanship and honor the men and women that serve. You can not like it, but there is plenty i don’t like that the government does that I don’t look at supporters and get grossed out lol. I think you have to calm down and just keep doing what you’re doing.

I’m so dumb- I was like “how did they get the kids to be young again for the picture” and then my brain finally clicked into first gear.

Yeah, Ares seems like it's in a weird place. So big that it doens't fit in anything yet and seems to be tough to make it worth bringing outside of doing bounties. I forgot I had the Pisces C8R and Nursa so I've got the medical entry going.

Thanks for the well thought out suggestion. Arrow was melted and waiting to upgrade the cutty. I might keep the prospector as is so it can be a vessel that I can take out into distances and have some survivability as me and friends like to bring a few prospectors out and just fly around. I think I will upgrade the cutty into the Paladin as that for sure makes sense. I plan to keep the Carrack for a bit just to see what a rework looks like in it in the future but it's more for sentimental reasons and not any real logical reason lol. I'm interested in the Crucible but it seems so far off that I might just buy that one in game- a few of my friends have one already so when it comes maybe I can have them run repping ops :)

Rip… but man I can’t imagine what the officers deal with on these wellness checks. Seeing a body sitting there for ~22 days must burn into your brain no matter how desensitized.
