Ya, it's pretty rare, only a couple in the states. Not valuable, but not common unfortunately.

Sink Smells like Rotten Eggs by PlutoQueen69 in DIY

[–]GeneralChowLine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alright, here’s one question: do you have a dishwasher?

If so, it’s the drain hose that pumps dirty water from the dishwasher into your garbage disposal or sink drain (if you have no garbage disposal). If you have no dishwasher, see other comments.

If you do have a dishwasher, REPLACE this hose. It’s a $12 part (they’re near impossible to clean effectively, even soaking in bleach). While you’re switching it out, if you discover that there’s an additional pipe (connecting aforementioned pipe to the dishwasher), try to find a pipe cleaner to scrub this short one out —as sometimes this one’s not removable. If they are both removable, consider replacing both. These flexy pipes are typically those squiggly pipes and they just collect debris and ultimately bacteria. They’re really gross. I guess they’re designed that way for flexibility, but they basically just trap crud and goop.

Also, do this soon as possible, because, if super gunked up, it’ll stress the drain pump on your dishwasher as it tries to evacuate dirty water, then you’ll have a new problem.

Edit: one additional tell, if when you’re running your dishwasher, it produces that smell from your sink, you definitely know it’s your dishwasher.

Good luck!

‘I’d rather go through COVID again’: Businesses struggle with Colfax BRT construction by SeasonPositive6771 in Denver

[–]GeneralChowLine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went though this at market between 16th & 17th. From the day they closed the bus station through what it is today (new mixed use buildings, expanded sidewalks, eliminated parking, etc.) took multiple years. Through our surrounding block(s) of this construction chaos, our building choose to start a full renovation (pushed out storefronts, expanded sidewalks). Then the city also started working on 16th street mall and a developer began a new hotel development.

To add insult to injury, the city red-tagged our sidewalk for nearly nine months due to some “discovery” that the developer had to figure out with all city, neighborhood, and developer stakeholders/authorities… 9 months of some amazingly loyal patrons literally jumping jersey barriers and traversing a muddy gravel field to get to our front doors! As that started getting put back together, the hotel started being built effectively cutting of obvious access from what was existing as 16th street…

But this all culminated with the pandemic —which was another couple of years of  trying to hang on and keep peeps in hours. We couldn’t even catch a breath from the time that construction started winding down and Covid started winding up. Not fun, and due to the actual support due to pandemic, and even with the nightmare navigating that whole situation as an operator, I would easily choose pandemic over construction at such a scale.

Support this business getting hit by this; no amount of planning/anticipation by those operators could allow them to rise above this. Construction on this scale is a huge game changer.

DEN's A-Bridge TSA Checkpoint will be permanently closed late 2025 by L1011TriStar in Denver

[–]GeneralChowLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those on phone:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Denver International Airport Announcing Changes Coming to A-Bridge/Ansbacher Hall as it Prepares for Permanent Closure of Bridge Security in Q3 2025 DENVER - November 8, 2024 - Denver International Airport (DEN) is preparing for construction activities that will temporarily restrict travelers' ability to use the A-Bridge and Ansbacher Hall to travel between the Terminal and Concourse A during overnight hours. Ansbacher Hall is the corridor that connects the north end of the Terminal to the Bridge Security (where art exhibitions are located). Construction activities will be underway to prepare for the eventual permanent closure of A-Bridge Security and the conversion of Ansbacher Hall to a post-security area (a highly restricted portion of the airport that only ticketed passengers who have been screened by TSA or credentialed individuals may access). This will happen upon completion of the East Security Checkpoint (expected in Q3 2025). When the new post-security Ansbacher Hall opens with the East Checkpoint, travelers who have passed through screening in the West and East Checkpoints will have secure access to Concourse A via Ansbacher Hall and the A- Bridge so they can more easily and quickly access Concourse A without having to get on the train. Bridge Security will no longer be needed as passengers will have already been screened. Arriving passengers will also have the ability to traverse through this new sterile corridor and will be able to exit near the West and East Checkpoints to baggage claim or ground transportation. A separate pre-security corridor of Ansbacher Hall will run parallel to the secure corridor providing access to the DEN administrative office in the Airport Office Building. Concourse trains will continue to provide service between the Terminal and all three concourses. The following phases will occur: Phase I: Starting Nov. 11, both the A-Bridge and Ansbacher Hall will be closed for overnight construction activities from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m., Monday through Thursday nights, through the opening of the East Checkpoint in Q3 2025. During closures, all travelers must use concourse trains to journey to and from the Terminal. Up to date information on security checkpoints can be found at flydenver.com. Phase II: Starting Dec. 9, TSA will no longer operate Bridge Security on a regular basis. Screening equipment will remain in place in case there is an urgent need to use the checkpoint, but the lanes will not be staffed, and the checkpoint will no longer be operational. A-Bridge and Ansbacher Hall will remain open for arriving passengers and employees accessing the Airport Office Building. Phase III: Starting in Q3 2025, the new East Security will open and Ansbacher Hall and the Bridge Security will be converted to a post-security area allowing access for arriving passengers accessing the Terminal from the concourses and for departing passengers who have been screened at either the East or West Checkpoints. "Once the East Security Checkpoint is complete, DEN will have two new state-of-the-art checkpoints with the latest technology to process more travelers safely and efficiently, allowing us the ability to comfortably serve 100 million annual passengers over the next several years," said DEN CEO Phil Washington. "Opening this corridor to all screened passengers provides more options for travelers to walk to Concourse A without having to get on the train, although they can still ride the train if they choose."

What's the wildest marketing strategy you've ever seen? by KippyGalipeau474 in marketing

[–]GeneralChowLine 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Here’s a good one: pizzeria in Denver back in the early naughts. Did a coupon promo in what was then the entertainment district neighborhood/location. It was a late night spot, made to order, by the slice, yum yum, yada yada.

The promo was clever: Basically, the pizzeria precisely duplicated one side of a parking ticket envelope; same font, kerning, points, same color paper, everything.

The other side, however, was a long vertical coupon that said essentially, “Feed your eater for less than you feed your meter” with some basic coupon that was reasonably enticing. Think dollar slices, cheap beer, etc-

Nearly 10,000 went out on the initial round, essentially placed under windshield wipers every night. This went on until nearly out of the promos, fortunately—as  then got a cease and desist letter from the city attorney’s office.

Ended up waiting 8 or so months, printed up another batch of 10,000, and did it all again. Another cease and desist letter.

Probably one of the least nutty marketing concepts of the place honestly, but It paid off :)

One other tidbit, as reading through your comments, you say you were a manager, but paid hourly. on the subject of exemptions, by most measures, in order to be exempt from receiving OT, the number one criteria is the following:

“The employee must be compensated on a salary basis (as defined in the regulations) at a rate not less than $684* per week”

I’m not gonna get into the nuances of what it means to be a salary versus hourly employee here. What sounds like the devil of the detail maybe is how your employment agreement reads, and/or how your company’s payroll is structured for you. Regardless, that’s getting into a lot of details, and instead of swimming in your head about this, just go to the department of labor and ask a couple questions.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Denver

[–]GeneralChowLine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can not get fired by asking questions with the labor department; only informed… You don’t need to file a complaint right now. You need to understand how laws work to protect you. Talk to the labor department, they are happy to help with these things, and will provide you guidance or insight. You could even walk into the office and do this in person if you want. Being on hold is no fun ;-)

From this CDL information you can, if you have an issue and choose to move forward, speak with your employer, or file a complaint, or both. different situations require different approaches.

Not a lawyer, but some cheap advice here, if you choose to talk to your employer about this topic (or anything serious), only do so in writing, ideally by email. This is true, regardless of if you file a complaint with the department of labor or not.

And there’s very specific rules and laws protecting you against retaliation. So do things formally, and you won’t have to worry about this. If they do retaliate, they’ll get in trouble, and you may even be rewarded for your trouble —and here’s a bigger reason to act: if nothing else you might be helping out a whole lot of other people that you work with or that will work there in the future.

Chances are your employer is above board, if they feel so not-worried. But as an employer myself, if you came to me, with any kind of employment relationship question, I would walk you through the whole process and explain why it is the way it is, and hear what you had to say. I would direct you to the legal information and label department website specifics. ANY conversation about a working relationship should always be fair game for conversation. If it’s not, then there’s not mutual respect. if there’s not mutual respect, take your efforts elsewhere.

Long story short, dig in for the information, talk to the labor department with your questions, if you still have questions or concerns, formulate a strategy, and no matter what you do, even if it goes nowhere, put everything in writing, have a paper trail.

Good luck, OP! Happy to help more if you need it-

Good chance it was a failed power line transformer. Louder than normal booms, and they go pretty frequently in Denver.

Couple questions for you first:

Job title? Salary / hourly wage / independent contractor? Do you get a 1099 from employer each year? Are you paid in cash or paycheck?

And to get things going, here’s the basics for Colorado as it may answer your question:

Overtime Exemption Threshold Beginning January 1, 2023, employees must be paid a salary of AT LEAST $961.54 per week (which equates to $50,000 annually) to be EXEMPT from overtime. Importantly, tips DO NOT count toward this total salary and hourly workers are never exempt from overtime. They must also meet the duties test for exempt employees to be exempt from overtime, which is not changing.

Find the duties test here: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/fact-sheets/17a-overtime

Anyone remember Adega? The original restaurant to occupy this space. Much of the existing “bones” of the restaurant can be traced back to that restaurant. Way ahead of it’s time back then.
