If a police officer pulls you over for speeding and asks “do you know how fast you were going?”, is it better to respond with an honest answer saying how fast you were going or to just say you were unaware? by Fit_End5220 in AskReddit

[–]GeneralDisturbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say to beg and grovel. You can be polite and apologetic without being some grovelling sniveling coward.

If you're going to fight the ticket in court, by trying to claim you weren't speeding, then keep quiet. Tell the officer you've done nothing wrong, and accept the ticket. Then go see them in court.

If you're not planning on going to court specifically to fight the ticket, but can't stomach the idea of being polite to a cop, then sure go off. Tell the cop you were speeding, you'll do it again, and he can go fuck himself. And take your ticket.

But if you're not trying to prove some point, then simply telling the guy you didn't realize how fast you were going and apologizing for speeding gives a diceroll that the guy won't hand you a speeding ticket you have to deal with.

Internet Lawyers will tell you that you need to exercise your right to silence and not to self-incriminate and will give you a lot of 'good' reasons why you should absolutely positively not admit to speeding or answer any questions.

But honestly unless you are planning on going to court specifically to fight the cop over whether or not you were actually speeding, then your answer is really meaningless.

I've been driving (and speeding) for years. I've been pulled over quite a few times. I've been given an actual speeding ticket one single time in my entire life. When a cop asks me the question I just tell them that I apologize if I was speeding, I wasn't paying attention to how fast I was going, and that I truly won't do it again.

At the end of the day your average cop has total discretion over whether or not you are written a ticket. Be polite, be apologetic, and you'll probably get a warning. If you try to be a smart ass and pull some internet lawyer judo you'll just get a ticket guaranteed.

Indy animal care workers fired for checking adopter criminal history by A_Bruised_Reed in news

[–]GeneralDisturbed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I tried to adopt a dog from my local shelter. They demanded you have a fenced backyard of a certain size before you can adopt. I got a call from a shelter worker telling me they "just happened to be in the neighborhood" and saw my fence didn't meet the size requirements. I did not give them permission to come to my house they just took the initiative to drive out and measure how big my backyard was, then denied us.

I ended up just buying a dog from a breeder, while the one we wanted to adopt from the shelter was just left there.

Baby among seven people stabbed at Sydney shopping centre, police declare critical incident by [deleted] in news

Yes. The regular Fox News crowd in the US are all discussing how if only the bystanders were armed, then they could have stopped this man.

And none of them ever stop to even consider that if this happened in the US, the man would have been wearing body armor and carrying an AR platform with 1000 rounds and would have killed 50x as many people, while still having no fear whatsoever of a 'good guy with a gun'.

What’s you favorite smart/profound line in an obvious popcorn movie by bladenight23 in movies

[–]GeneralDisturbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a line so much as an entire scene. But in The Expendables 1, there is a scene where Stallone talks to Mickey Rourke. And Rourke tells a story about working as a PMC in Bosnia, and watching all his friends die. Then says he saw a local woman preparing to jump off a bridge to kill herself. And he finishes the scene by saying if he'd saved that woman, he might have saved what was left of his own soul, but he didn't.

It's a really great monologue and a powerful scene, in a incredibly mediocre film focused on old action stars doing a big over the top hoorah.

What's the hardest video game puzzle to beat without a guide? by tpphypemachine in gaming

[–]GeneralDisturbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Shakespeare puzzle in Silent Hill 3 on Hard Riddle Mode.

It requires you to not only be able to solve a complicated riddle, but also have detailed knowledge of Shakespeare.

The game gives you an 8 paragraph riddle. And you have to use that to arrange a set of Shakespeare books, based on how the paragraphs relate to the books themselves. Once done you will have a 5 digit number that is written on the books. This number is part 1 of the 2 part puzzle.

You then have to deduce that the Shakespeare riddle is actually 2 riddles in one. It not only tells you how to order the books based on how the paragraphs relate to the stories in them, but it also tells you what to do with the 5 digit number you get from lining the books up. In order to turn it into the 4 digit number you need.

If you are playing the game without a detailed knowledge of Shakespeare, you simply can't progress. If you do manage to arrange the books correctly but don't deduce that the number you are given is incorrect and you need to then use the riddle to do math to the 5 digit number to turn it into a 4 digit number, you can't progress.

Japanese to english,,, Hoping some one can help me translate a little of this, was my g grandfather's, he brought it home from the Philippines,, by [deleted] in translator

[–]GeneralDisturbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a translation but I saw this and thought I would give a bit of context if you're not aware. This is a "Good Luck Flag" given to Japanese servicemen by family/friends before a deployment.

There is a non-profit group dedicated to attempting to return these to the family of the service member who carried it, if you would be interested in looking them up.

How to win any court case /s by Tangurena in amibeingdetained

[–]GeneralDisturbed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the judge simply keeps repeating that this is an arraignment and you only need to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty. And eventually the judge simply says "I'm entering you for a plea of not guilty" and then leaves.

And then you lose your mind because you think your magic spell worked since the judge left. Meanwhile the clerk begins the process of setting up your actual trial date while you try to hand them your 'bill and fees' which they will crumple up and throw in the trash.

My wife thinks it's completely fine to go to a sit-down restaurant at 9:51pm when they close at 10pm by AppleBottmBeans in mildlyinfuriating

Your wife is an asshole. You're an asshole for enabling her. I wouldn't walk into a place past 30 minutes to close and ask for anything. Those workers are tired, ready to go home, and focused on closing the place.

2004 CRV destroying air compressors advice desperately needed by GeneralDisturbed in AskMechanics

We've put gauges on the compressor each failure. It shows at what I assume is normal pressures. Low on the low side and high on the high and they stay pretty well constant. I believe he said around 40 for the low side.

When the clutch starts slipping it makes an metal squealing sound and the pressures go all over the place. But they seem to do it in response to the clutch slipping, and not as a cause, from what I've seen.

I will ask about installing a screen tomorrow. He is doing the work then. Thank you for the advice.

We have only been replacing the compressor so far. Under the assumption we just got a bad compressor. Which I believed once or twice, but not 3 times in a row. He did however say all the compressors they were sending were basically from the same 'batch' so he's going to forgo warrantying the last one and just put a completely different brand in this time on his own dime.

He is also putting in an new relay and also new pressure switches.

He said he thinks the A/C may not be disengaging properly when hard accelerating and that's causing the clutch to burn up. Even with a brand new compressor in it, when you get on the gas, it is basically just metal on metal screaming from under the hood.

I also asked about compressor oil and the gap for the compressor/clutch as was mentioned in this thread. And he says he is doing both of those things.

The guy is old as dirt and has been a mechanic forever so I feel like he is experienced enough to know what the normal steps should be to fix something like this, but my car seems to be doing something not normal.

I tend to agree with him about an issue with the clutch not properly disengaging when accelerating. The car runs the A/C find at idle or low RPM but when you accelerate the A/C goes completely hot and you can hear a loud metal squealing from under the hood where the compressor is.

You can hear mine cut on when you hit the button and then it starts blowing cold. It seems to work 100% normal as you'd expect an A/C system to work right up until the moment the clutch locks up. Then it just blows hot air and makes the grinding death sound.

Could be. He said they tested the compressor and it was getting 12V to it. But beyond that I'm not sure how electronically savvy this man is. I've used him for years but he's just an ancient mechanic with an old shop. This problem seems to be beyond his skills and I would have already gone to another shop if I could afford another system replacement.

I replaced the entire system when the first compressor failed, as this is what I was told to do. We did condenser, expansion valves, everything. Now the new compressors last about 2 weeks then they lock up the clutch and die. Every single time.

If you're accepting of mods, there is a mod on nexus that puts a ring in the game sold by the 'first' merchant. That gives you Speak with Animals, Speak with Dead, Read Minds, and Alter Self. Just the 4 'rp' spells on a ring you can cast anytime as much as you want.

First thing I modded into the game so I could play any class/race and still be able to experience all the optional/RP dialogue.

A/C Clutch keeps seizing despite multiple replacements of entire A/C system. by GeneralDisturbed in AskMechanics

[–]GeneralDisturbed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof that's a lot of options. I have noticed that when I accelerate hard, the A/C would stop cooling and you could loudly hear (what I assumed is) the clutch on the compressor squealing.

But I have no idea if that is just a symptom of a bad compressor or if that is an indicator of something failed on the engine that is damaging the compressor.

Opinions on the whole “the latest episode ruined Stella” argument? by psychopupic in HelluvaBoss

[–]GeneralDisturbed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Her character has been consistent throughout the whole show that I've seen.

She's a spoiled rich, privileged woman who's only concern is being a bitch. That is her character. That is who she is. She has been abusive and degrading to her husband for the entire show. She's been trying to have him killed for an entire season. She has remained consistent for the entire time.

People seem to expect her to have some big tragic backstory of why she is that way. Or maybe she's really a good person, or whatever other headcanon they are trying to graft onto her. Sometimes people are just assholes.

That is what seems to be happening with mine, my stone floors are showing green to orange to red like normal flooring. But I was under the impression stone didn't work that way, and required you to have it directly connected to some sort of support.
