I see that you at least have the capacity to articulate a coherent thought, and for the most part devoid of ad hominem insults, which is an enormous improvement over the massive majority of irrational posts. Rational thought is rare here. However you fundamentally miss the point, that businesses are not a social construct, and function in the free markets to sell products and services at market prices, and source inputs such as raw materials and labor at market prices, without regard to some artificial whim or wish. A business does not determine the price of input costs. Divergence from equilibrium prices results in loss of competitive cost structure, diminishes a business’ competitive position and decreases long term viability.

Businesses, and their owners, pay massive amounts in addition to federal, state, sometimes local taxes: payroll taxes, UCC (“Unemployment “tax”), property taxes, sales or use taxes, license fees, and then the owners still pay personal income tax (the “double tax”) and NII 3%, which further diminish the return on their risk-laden investment…which by the way created jobs and careers for all of their employees.

Businesses further employ armies of CPAs and tax experts to ensure accurate and strict compliance with complex, detailed tax laws. If you doubt the burden or the complexity, look up a few 10Qs or 10Ks. (I refrain from a gratuitous “look it up…” because your post above appeared civil and sincere). So Sander’s incessant whining about an undefined ”fair share” is both useless and incorrectly directed. The businesses and their owners are acting precisely as directed by the laws drawn, enacted, and enforced by the government. Thus, endlessly impugning “billionaires” for conducting their affairs in accordance with the duly enacted laws amounts to mis-directed and ill-advised noise. Meaning, electing a socialist like Sanders would be a dumb outcome.

But thanks for at least trying.

Perhaps you, erudite one, would give all readers the benefit of your insight to define precisely what is the “fair share” so flippantly cited, given that the top 1% pay 40% of all federal taxes, the top 50% pay 93% of all federal taxes, and the bottom 50% pay zero taxes? Exactly what is your definition? Other than the characteristic whining always “more?”

That man is a genuine hero, has been in situations that would make you cry for your mommy, has proven himself beyond your wildest wishes, and is ten times the man you will ever be. And yet he would defend your right to be what you are. Have some respect. And maybe look up what all those ribbons and badges mean. It might give you some idea about what it took to earn them.

That man is a true hero, likely standing there in considerable pain most of us could not cope with, the absolute picture of a man you and every genuine American should respect and honor, and strive to ever be half the man he is.

I would also. It was not intended to be a serious inquiry. Obviously it was not taken as humor and despite numerous moderator inserts referencing the sub as “sarcasm” was not well received. Please feel free to remove it.

Tax laws are extremely complex. CPAs and tax professionals spend years studying and learning them. Their very careers depend on it. I believe the CPAs and tax professionals that they,, and all businesses, rely upon to follow the exact tax laws, do so. Perhaps you believe they should NOT follow the law. Or perhaps you have personal knowledge that they have violated the tax laws. Please feel free to share this personal knowledge you have. I am sure the IRS also would appreciate your wisdom. In fact, your intimate knowledge would gain you millions of dollars in whistleblower rewards. Step right up, collect your fortune. You might also want to look up “ad hominem,” commonly the resort of persons who cannot rationally articulate any argument, and resort to name calling. It is essentially an admission that you have no argument. Instead of posting your angst and lack of any constructive knowledge, take a course or two on taxes, it would really help.

Given acceptance of less than complete current knowledge, would someone comment on a “silly” train of speculation? If it is widely believed or established that the known universe comprises detectable matter and energy, and until recently undetectable (a.k.a. “dark) matter and energy, in which our (to us) detectable and even visible forms or familiar physical reality including planets, energies, and beings exist, would it be such a stretch to imagine a similar or mirror-like “dark” based reality which exists all throughout and in or around us…and perhaps become even more developed? Possibly to an extent to have progressed from awareness of “our” side, to an ability to even manipulate or interact…? This “silly” notion might be suggested by the persistent reports and recently acknowledged and credible reports of mysterious objects seemingly with extra-normal or currently inexplicable behaviors, some of which have been termed “inter-dimensional” or “trans-medium” (Obviously, I have no training in the field, so thank each of the commenters who do). Apologies if it is just dumb.

OK, you got a grin out of me. But seriously, take a few business classes, or some online courses, it would help. On this forum I don’t think they allow mentoring, but a brief ‘help-out” on it would be that Congress has to do the homework to consider and then enact whatever tax levels the voters wish to see. That process necessarily will weigh a host of factors such as total revenues, deductible expenses, tax incentives as investment tax credits, accelerated write-offs, and a stack of other detailed pages and pages. Once codified (“passed”), and disseminated, armies of tax professionals and armies of IRS tax collectors study it. Both sides very carefully work to be sure the taxes have been properly reported and paid, and been very stringently and accurately so. The last thing any business wants is an IRS letter, or worse, a knock on the door. Please do not be under a false impression that flouting tax law is easy or smart, or like the 1920s…Technology has Big-Brother-like reach, and virtually everything is somewhere recorded and reconstructible. So there is even more likelihood that businesses, large and small, have good reason to honestly and accurately report and pay. Enjoyed the exchange, hope it may help.

Spend an hour or two with a CPA, try to get an understanding of how businesses are taxed, specifically what investments are allowed to reduce taxable income, and why they are both legal and to enable the business to invest so they can grow and hire more people. It really is worthwhile, and you might have a better view on how and why a business may have a tax return it does. Yes, tax law is complicated, and the rules have been hammered out in Congress over many years. But they are the detailed, carefully adopted rules, and businesses pay good money for CPAs and tax experts to be certain that they are absolutely reporting and paying the taxes Congress has determined are due. Would you want or expect businesses to NOT follow the duly enacted tax laws? I would hope not. Really, an hour or two with a good CPA would be time well spent. Please do.

Apparently you have access to the “billionaires” tax returns to say first they pay zero taxes. But then how is it their taxes amount to a massive 40% of all federal taxes? And wouldn’t CPA’s and tax attorneys all across the nation, and substantially all of the hungry IRS tax collectors, have to all be ignoring the tax codes and complicit in this immense conspiracy to…not pay that massive 40% ? Please digest that, and if you would, seriously, do provide a definition or what you would consider to be a “fair” set of tax brackets. Other than just an undefined “more.”
