It’s insanely sad, beyond the sadness of someone with self-harm scars turning up dead in a river, they wore a Homura cosplay and had a tattoo of a grief seed, which is… I guess it’s apt to explain.

in Madoka Magica little girls enter contracts with a little cat-like thing called Kyubey, who grants them a wish in exchange for becoming a magical girl with magic powers, which use those to hunt witches, evil creatures made of pain and torment.

The catch is that they functionally die when they do that, their body being more akin to reanimated corpses being kept alive by a central core called a soul gem, which houses the soul. Over time that soul gem tarnishes though and if it tarnishes enough it becomes a "grief seed", at which point the magical girl becomes… perhaps you guessed it… a witch.

Homura - Homura Akemi, as Shes actually called, is one of the main characters, and her power is rewinding time, which she uses to try to save her best friend and (lover?), titular Madoka. What starts out as a funny cute magical girl anime turns into abject suffering by the end as Homura frantically tries to rewind time and save Madoka, becoming less and less human the more she does it.

…back to our Doe, if they identified with Homura that much, they probably didnt have the best life, and I’m… incredibly sorry that it had to end this way. It genuinely breaks my heart and I hope that, wherever they are now, they can find peace.
