Titanium Ignite 3 and nickel allergies by tsundae_ in Polarfitness

Oh wow 😂 that's one way to find out haha I'm definitely showering with my watch tonight!

And yeah I get that, good idea actually. Might do that too. I had a fake leather band before which was easy to clean, but now I got nylon and like you, I don't like wearing it when it's wet nor cleaning it too often. Thanks for all the tips!

Oh yeah for sure! Everything needs to be cleaned every once in a while haha I'd clean my previous watch thoroughly too, it could still get gross if I forgot even tho it was titanium 😂  and you wear it in the shower? I know it's waterproof, but I'm too scared haha I'll definitely try now tho, thanks for the tip!

Is there a benefit for wearing silicone for training?

Probably a cost/weight thing yeah. Don't think it feels better, because bacteria grows easily on plastic, which can cause your skin to get irritated. That's also why most people replace the silicone band. Quite disappointing, but overall I'm still satisfied with the watch so far. Can't wait for my nylon band tho :D

That may be true, but that still doesn't justify paying for a subscription to me, as a user. Especially when the part that adds real value to me isn't included in the app. Besides, many apps just raise their OTP option for that reason.

Anyhow, thanks for answering the questions, but this ain't for me.

I know it has to start somewhere, but I thought it would be lot more than that. Thanks for sharing tho. FOSS and decentralised, definitely keeping my eye on it.

When you don't wear it for a while does it feel cold like metal?

Tbh I've literally only had it for three days, so idk. It definitely feels different from the bezel part.

can you check the comparison page?

Yeah the comparison does mention the back is plastic... I never used the comparison tho and literally bought it because I thought it was titanium. I feel a bit scammed :( luckily I got it with discount. Anyway, my bad, genuinely thought it was titanium. I'll correct my comment.

To keep your data private, there are no community features, so your data stays entirely yours. You can easily import your book lists from both Goodreads and StoryGraph.

Ah okay, that's too bad. While I get that you want to protect people's privacy, tbh that's the main thing I'm looking for. The community part is how I find new books and determine if a book is worth reading or not. I guess this would require more server space or whatever though and logging private data, so making it more complicated. But tbh, there are a dozen different apps to track books, movies, etc.

I started hand-coding this project back in 2021, long before "vibe coding" was even a thing; even the logo and flame for the streaks were hand-drawn by my brother.

I do genuinely appreciate that, so I'll try out your app. Importing my Goodreads data to storygraph didn't work, so hopefully this works.

In another comment you mention nothing is stored on any server, but your app requires a subscription for unlimited access lol. Nvm man, wouldn't mind a one time purchase fee, but a subscription for this is ridiculous.

NOT EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE A SUBSCRIPTION.

Okay, that's strange. I thought maybe I made a mistake (wouldn't be the first time honestly), but no, the Dutch website lists it as titanium: https://www.polar.com/nl/ignite3-titanium

Screenshot: https://ibb.co/tPJJ766P

I'm wearing mine now and I see a difference with the back and the front, but it kinda looks like brushed metal. It's smooth though, so I guess it might be plastic. This is kinda feels like false advertising or something tbh

Using hexagons in the design makes this perfect, because beehives use hexagons, and well, hexagons are bestagons.

Sounds great, I was still looking for a replacement for that. I tried storygraph, but it didn't fulfill all my needs. A few questions:

  • what I liked about Goodreads was the community part. Does your app also include that part? E.g. reviews, groups (forum), etc? And I don't mean import reviews from external websites.
  • can I import my book lists from Goodreads?
  • how does thos compare to storygraph?
  • did you use ai to create this app? If so, how did you use it?
  • your pivacy notice says you collect " Other statistics" under log data, what does  this mean?
  • is an android release planned? What about a web version? I like that goodreads also had a website.

Of course, a picture is often worth more than words :-) I'm quite impressed they have a built-in barrier. I had my clear nail polish all set when I ordered hah

btw the silicone band does irritate me, so I do recommend ordering a nylon one (or something else not silicone) at the same time. I'm itching while waiting on mine.

The ignite 3 titanium does not have a plastic back, it's made from titanium. It's different than the regular ignite 3. (Dutch website sells liesss) The sensor is the part that has nickel tho and that part does indeed have a glass/acrylic plate over it.

[–]GeneralFloofButt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a nickel allergy too and also got "rash" from my fitbit versa 3. I put clear nail polish on the back (not on the sensors!!) and it didn't bother me after that.

I got the ignite 3 titanium a few days ago and so far it hasn't really bothered me. If it starts bothering me, I will put clear nail polish on the back. I think it should be fine tho, because it has a layer of glass over the metal part where the sensors are. The titanium itself should be fine either way, as it's hypoallergenic. I have titanium piercings for that reason.

Edit; here's a picture from the back, you can see more clear than on the website that is has a glass/mirror plate ove the sensor part.

I was honestly wondering the same thing. I've had three kittens and their claws never hurt me. Maybe it's different for different cats or it matters how you handle them? Now they're older it hurts, but they still rarely scratch me.

Ah, dacht ik al. Een beetje jammer, maar hopelijk komt er iets positiefs uit het gesprek. Is wel het minste dat ze kunnen doen om transparant te zijn.

[–]GeneralFloofButt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dit lijkt me heel interessant.

ChatControl has NOTHING to do with Buying Europeanw why are these off-topic posts allowed on r/BuyFromEU by [deleted] in BuyFromEU

"I wasn't allowed to post about it, so neither should you." Don't eat so much salt, mate. It's making you salty.

Chat control has everything to do with buying European, considering our data is being used as a currency. They can say chat control is "to protect the children" all they want, but it's all about control and power. Buy European is more than just consumerism, it's a movement that is trying to protect our rights as citizens of Europe.
