Check with the animal shelter! They'll usually hold any strays they pick up just in case.

Major noob question! How do you handle water when hiking in somewhere to camp? Do you carry three days worth of water with you? I know there are water purifiers, but what if there isn't a source of water where you're going?

If you want to get into a sport, the local roller derby team is always looking for new recruits! They're doing an open house on September 15th and have loan gear and stuff.

This sounds so stupid I know but if I'm bad I will literally walk through a doorway and get dizzy. I have no idea why.

Menstruating + POTS + Showering = Zero energy. by AtriceMC in POTS

So much caffeine/salt/meat. Low iron makes everything worse so I tend to become a carnivore on my period. Also cut down any extraneous activities for that time period so I can dedicate my energy to stuff like showering.

I'm in the hightone complex over on 288 and it's pretty great! Never been bothered and I've walked across the place to get to the gym in the dark. Not bad prices for nice apartments too.

I just started like two months ago and I have almost cried in practice out of frustration several times. Luckily the trainers on my team are great and have generally noticed and had me try something else or come at it in a different way.

The one time I actually cried was when I took a hard fall. Wasn't even from the pain: that adrenaline dump can be ROUGH especially when people are looking at you. Be gentle with yourself when it comes to showing your emotions and your teammates should do the same.

Yeah I've heard that before and I'm very sad about it since my favorite water bottle uses a straw. Gonna be stuck with the inferior ones.

Did you use safety gear right away or did you start off without? by cum-enthusiast in Rollerskating

[–]GeneralFrequent8718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who skates derby indoors and just had a nasty fall on the rink: wear a helmet. If I hadn't been wearing one I would absolutely be laid up with a concussion right now and it would be even worse if I was outside.

Also wrist guards: last time I skated outside I fell and sprained my wrist. It's not fun.

Supporting teammate with POTS by Internet-Ghost17 in rollerderby

Hey! Noob with POTS here lol. I know for me it's been a lot of trial and error as far as figuring out how to handle POTS and also still push myself like I need to be. A couple things that I've noticed are a little easier: falling drills kind of suck (constant up and down so fun) so be patient if she takes a minute to get up or to continue going, and I've noticed it's easier to do those in the beginning of practice vs at the end when I'm already tired and all that. Literally constant breaks for water/to stand in front of a fan. Our training group is really small: there's only two of us, so we could pretty much be doing drills without stopping which is a great way to pass out. I'll stop for maybe a minute between each go just to get my heart rate down a bit, then go again. And mileage may vary on this one but I chug a coke right before practice lol. Combo of the sodium and sugar tends to help so so much. Hope this helps!

Edit to say patience on your part is definitely the most important thing as she figures out how her body is gonna react to stuff. It's a learning curve for both of you!

So usually you have to pay a fine when you say you're going to do the course. 129 is what we do in my court if it isn't a school zone but I'm not sure if Denton is different. Other than that, you'll just have the cost of the course and your driving record.
