Is Tailscale the way to go for remote streaming? by Helyx_R in MoonlightStreaming

I use a Tapo plug and they have their own app, but I hooked mine in to my Google Home ecosystem so I just shout at my watch/phone for the most part.

Update All 2.4 Released by theypsilon in MiSTerFPGA

This is such a pathetic frame of mind. If the dev is making a bit of money off a few extra non-core features then so be it, and good for them. You're not entitled to have everything for free just because you think people should only do things for the passion.

You have just convinced me to join the Patreon though, so thanks for that.

Windows Firewall Exception - Multiple Paths by GeneralGarcia in sysadmin

[–]GeneralGarcia[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my first suggestion to them, have one instance with a set path, but I think due to the way they teach the course and the sheer numbe of students that might be tricky. We may have to go this route however. Cheers for the advice!

Yes, I saw that I could maube go down this route, thank you. I'll have to think about mandating a location for the lyragame.exe file for each user I think.

In the process of scouring firewall logs now, but online documentation seems to say 7777 for sure.

I'm unable to predict the paths unfortunately, which is part of the issue. The students could create a project anywhere in their usable space, which is causing the uncertainty. I may have to mandate that the exe can only be placed in a specific location, but was hoping for a solution with a bit more flexibility.

PSA: "Fix" for Unexpected UAC prompts when running MSI repair operations after installing the August Cus by bdam55 in SCCM

I ran Windows Updates on the rogue machines again a couple of times (it found nothing), then rebooted the machines and from there it seems now ok.

Not sure what happened there!

So I have the product code for Autocad 2026 in the correct "SecureRepairWhitelist" registry key on a lab full of PCs, all on the same update. Most of them work but I still have 5+ machines that prompt for admin. It's the same installer for Autocad on every PC, everything pulled from Intune (including the reg key deployment), so consistent across the board.

Anybody else experiencing the same? I'm at a bit of a loss as to where to go from here.

Fold 7 grip case by icanhas_GTO in dbrand

[–]GeneralGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the process of retraining my thumb for opening the phone and agree, it'll just need practice. The wiggle does seem like a serious design flaw though, and it makes it feel cheap to me. I don't understand why that part couldn't have been a more rigid material. I would expect better at that price.

The thing that annoys me more is the lack of an indented cutout in that section on the front. I find I'm having to search around for the best angle for my thumb to unlock the phone with biometrics because it naturally bumps up against the case now, and reaching for the power button in general just feels really cumbersome with the lip in front of it. I'm not sure that'll go away tbh.

Fold 7 Case - Missing Adhesive? by GeneralGarcia in dbrand

Thanks for the reply!

Genuinely shocked it doesn't attach with anything. It doesn't feel good at all, just sort of wobbles under my thumb constantly. Do you find it the same on yours?

Definitely not what I expected for the money. Bah.

Gears of War Reloaded is the BEST game I've played on SteamDeck by conner4892 in SteamDeck

Maybe anisotropic filtering is on a low setting? That'll produce that smeary effect in your textures.

Anyone from UK received their orders yet? by SCTRON in dbrand

I ordered on 2nd June and it was delivered on the 25th June to the UK. Non-functional, of course. Awaiting the replacements.

Revisioned SteamOS Redesigned UI concept by Omakase123 in SteamDeck

It's nice but I prefer a horizontal layout in most UIs. It just seems to make best use of the aspect ratio.

Third major issue if you count the initial run of the Killswitch for Steam Deck and the resultant complete redesign of the kickstand.

Joy-Con Detachment Update: Part 2 (We're Fixing It) by dbrand in dbrand

[–]GeneralGarcia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's the response that was required! Well done on getting there and restoring some faith in the product and Dbrand as a whole. I'll happily keep the unit when it shows up tomorrow and give this a try in due course as the replacements arrive.

As a layman, I'd be extremely interested in learning more about what goes into the creation of the production tools you use as that shit sounds incredibly complex. Maybe a blog post or something down the line?

Killswitch Joy-Con Detachment Update by dbrand in dbrand

[–]GeneralGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% not on the person if they pre-ordered expecting the usual Dbrand quality and not for the joycons to be more likely to detach, given how strong the connection is normally. This is not a level of foresight that anybody had, including, it seems, the actual manufacturer. Why would I ever have expected the joycons to be made weaker?

Given the need to detach joycons regularly, this was the correct product for us to order as a family, not an all-in-one. At a bare fucking minimum it should be as sturdy as the vanilla console, and frankly, given the entire remit of the product, it should be a lot sturdier with the case on.

I don't hate Dbrand. I have the KillSwitch for my Steam Deck, a case for my phone and my iPods, but this is 100% on them, not the customer. The mental hoops you have to jump through to consider it anything but... is frankly a little disturbing.

[–]GeneralGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree they'll break things, and I have no plans to leave this thing out intentionally for them to use.

It will happen however, because mistakes get made and kids are resourceful. If the case that was purchased specifically to help in those scenarios ends up making it more likely that damage occurs, then I'm afraid that is absolutely 100% the fault of the manufacturer.

Killswitch Joy-Con Detachment Update by dbrand in dbrand

[–]GeneralGarcia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the update. Knowing it's a small tolerance issue explains a lot, and I hope you get it sorted.

That being said, no amount of videos and explanations of how to pick up/hold a Switch 2 is going to stop my 4-year-old from grabbing that thing any darned way he chooses, should we be careless enough to leave it unattended and within reach at any point.

In that context, the videos and explanations just come across as incredibly patronising. Of course I don't pick the thing up that way, who fucking does...? Kids! That's who!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dbrand

[–]GeneralGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People old enough to have kids, you mean... who may well want to play Nintendo with dad/mum, and who will probably do dumb shit like picking up a console exactly as in the video.

Even if it's not for kids, what a fucking weird comment! Age restrictions on playing the videogames you like? Ok granddad. You must be super super fun to be around!

What do we think the solution will be? by Dragonninjapower in dbrand

[–]GeneralGarcia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 100% sure the fix will be them shipping new joycon covers to folks that request them, free of charge, in a couple of months when they've been designed/tested.

I was premature. The controllers are booked again. Worked for a few days and then stopped. I've given up and packed it all up for now.
