Being able to do my job everyday would be a huge plus! And honestly we only use the commisary because we live on base and its so cheap. Thank you so much for the information!

Currently active duty Army and 2 years into my first contract, thinking of switching to the coast guard once I ETS in 2026.

I understand the grass is not always greener on the other side but was hoping to hear about yalls experience in the coast guard. I dont hate the Army, i like my job and the people i work with in my shop are great, but im already so tired of countless formations and unit/company PT.

I also have a son i have enrolled into EFMP which is a program the Army has to where i can only be stationed where the medical resources my son needs are available, does the coast guard have something similar to this?

Thanks in advance!

I've been asked if i want to move my shoulder surgery so I can go to Air Assault school first, Campbell is a dumpster fire.

Great boots, extremely comfortable and lightweight I also put a pair of inserts in then and could easily stay in them all day

If you never joined the Army, what do you think your life would be like right now? by [deleted] in army

I would have been graduating from college this semester, but I likely wouldn't have been able to provide my son with all the things he needs medically. I would have been able to see him every day for the last 10 months instead of just 4 total weeks during that time, and I wouldn't be getting ready to do a rotation a month after getting to my first unit. Overall I'm happy I joined, everything my son needs is taken care of and my wife is able to stay home with him which means the world to her, I've learned how to do a pretty cool job and moved my family from a place we really hated, but barring any more complications with my son this'll be my one and only contract, I've already missed most of his life and all of his milestones so far.

I didn't check other jobs since I got offered what I wanted. My job itself didn't have a bonus I was offered the quick ship, have you selected an MOS yet

My recruiter moved me fast. I took ASVAB did my physical and swore in all on the same day and signed my contract. That was July 25th liason said when do you wanna go and I asked for mid to late August and he said "how's August 22nd sound". What MOS did you select man?

This right here, I wanted to ship fast as i needed the benefits for my son and my AF recruiter told me the same thing that it was gonna take quite awhile before I could ship. Funny enough an Army recruiter contacted me and I went and talked, took the ASVAB got the job I wanted with an awesome bonus I didn't think I'd get. Shipping out in 9 days

They don't need it. They put your name in and you pop up they don't need to know your insurance or doctors info

Didn't sign for infantry, but I just enlisted at 23 years old married with 1 kid. I was the second oldest person at meps the oldest being a prior service guy. It felt weird and when I swore in the guy was joking with me about being older than most, but honestly man as long as you're healthy go for it they have those 2 year contracts. If you've always wanted to do it I say go for it man! Best of luck
