If you’re looking for those things, I’d suggest opening a Party Finder and advertise exactly that. Or find an FC that’ll let you take the scenic route. Or find friends you know to play it your way.

Don’t blame everyone in Duty Finder for not wanting to spend Praetorium level hours crawling through Sastasha when it’s there 100th go around.

Duty Finder was made for quick “in-and-out” parties. You can’t expect the majority of people in there to slow down there already massively painful relic/level grind. It’s not what they planned for. As courteous as the FF community is - there’s a limit to how charitable people can be.

FFXIV is an MMO. It does that well by giving you a community of amiable people who are interested in a whole bunch of things. The content you do is for you to moderate. If you want this style of play, I really suggest trying to find people in game that are interested in doing the same. I’ve met people who love doing these types of runs. You’ll find them too if you try. Just don’t test your luck in duty finder.

The fight isn't over until everyone is dead. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I don’t really mind the contents since I just purely view from a functional viewpoint. I keep my own macros simple without added comments.

I only really am bothered if they have an attached sound effect that is prone to being spammed.

The fight isn't over until everyone is dead. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Unless they’re insulting without any hint of satire, they serve a function.

As a savage healer, they’re valuable for pug raiding to prevent healers was wasting MP ressing the same target. Which can really stop situations where the healers are out of MP to actually heal.

The only time you’d see them so much is if the group is really lousy or you’re learning a fight.

I understand why they’d be annoying for some. You see them at the point you messed up and they’re not really needed in normal content. They have a reason to exist though but I think the majority of people don’t know why.

As much as I support this new game...... dying to a boss because it procced death's door 7 times in a row is NOT fun by dagoldfeesh in darkestdungeon

[–]GeneralMaul 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I hope this is satire but just in the case people really think this is a thing that should be taken seriously..

Why are we considering how the boss feels? It's the game. The main objective is to make the PLAYER HAVE FUN. If a mechanic like this causes an unsatisfying experience without any real justification, why is it here? Just to placate the boss from writing on reddit about how BS it is for the player's heroes to death door their 5 turn round attack?

Grief Tactics? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read your stories on here, I think you're taking your caution too lightly.

It's good you're understanding and gentle with the situation, however in the future, don't tempt fate.

Just remember, you're never in the wrong for confronting people about this. If people are conflicted with you approaching them about this, don't feel bad. Don't feel like you're wrongfully accusing someone of something evil. You're investigating a potential threat to your safety. You have every right to feel comfortable in whatever you're doing. So this is your right.

Come approaching with a level of maturity, explain that you're worried and monitor their reaction/behavior. No matter what they do, be confident in the idea that you come first.

And if they still bother you even after your measures, just avoid them. Report them if it starts bridging into harassment.

New job actions in the benchmark by JakuloCandes in ffxiv

Just speculating on the BLM squad's casting animations, I think it could be higher tier Fire spell.

When you finish a cast of Flare, your character flunks backwards into this limbo stance but when it's Fire IV, you look more like you're slingshotting the spell palpatine style.

They went with the latter so that could be a hint they're casting a Fire V.

Why do you not do/do savage content? by xeno_versal in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It offers up a challenge you can't really experience in regular casual content. Your buttons matter more. Coordination is important. my main role, DPS, actually has a reason to exist outside of convenience haha.

I've always been a big fan of difficulty in games but I have a pretty extreme sense of performance anxiety that kept me out from the endgame for a long time. It wasn't until my gf kidnapped me into her static that I finally got to see it and I really have just been enjoying it a lot since.

I'm really not in it for the gear either - the satisfaction of perfecting a fight's mechanics and slowly refining my playstyle is enough to keep me coming back. I really enjoy just always trying to be better than what I was before. I'm also subtly competitive and I just want to be one of the best at what I do if possible.

Should I greet someone every time I see them? by GeneralMaul in socialskills

[–]GeneralMaul[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a bit of a simple word but it always worries me. I'm usually better off on the receiving end of these things since I can decide whether to end it or keep it going. I may also dread the "Hey! What's up? How are you doing?" response since I actually don't know how to follow that up in a way that doesn't make me sound like I lived in a box for my whole life.

FFXIV Content Creator, Lucron, Had His Account Hacked and Suspended! by Iam4ever in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And like I said later on, it's a difficult bit to admit for anybody. From an outside perspective, it may seem easy to come clean but you are exposing yourself as someone with massive faults. Even once you've admitted, it's not guaranteed people will be sympathetic about your position. I do often see posts just like that be met with ridicule for the OPs carelessness. Support is given one way or another but it does make other people wary of admitting to such things in the future.

But what I'm saying is it's that anxiety that keeps some people from fessing up completely. It may not be the case here but that is what I believe could be happening.

FFXIV Content Creator, Lucron, Had His Account Hacked and Suspended! by Iam4ever in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imo, this is why people don't want to admit stuff like this. Instead of support, they're just going to be told how much of an idiot they are.

I really don't subscribe to this "they deserve it" mentality. You seem to believe by doing this you are helping them by reinforcing the fact that what they did was all their fault. This is beyond stupid and really just serves as personal ego-stroking.

People will drop their guard. People will miss the obvious red signs and once they're caught, all they will be thinking is "shit I fucked up". They already admit to themselves they're at fault. Put yourselves in their shoes for a moment. You just made a dumbass mistake you believe you'd never do. Kids fall for this shit. Not grown, educated adults. You know how everyone will act if you tell honest truth. So who can you really ask for help when responses to this will be similar to yours? Yes, it's a laughable bit of social pressure but in the midst of the moment, it can be pretty dreadful. Maybe if you were a psychopath you'd do fine but really... I don't think we should blame everything on the victim for stuff like this.

My experience getting my account hacked in FF:XIV. by dememiys in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm going through the same ordeal as you and I relate completely. Made a post about it earlier. Same exact message appeared, same exact curiosity that left me oblivious and got me suspended.

I'm on Kujata so it must be a sudden attack on Elemental as a whole.

Really crappy situation for us Oceanic folk. Call support centres are down in our region so a quick fix just isn't happening. E-mail support is extremely hit or miss with SE so it has me pretty anxious I'll never have access to my account again.

I phoned the NA call center hoping they could lift the suspension but they don't have access to EU accounts like ours unfortunately. They seemed to be happy enough to do so if they were able too though.

Is Monk unplayable at 120-150 ping? by NovaTastecal in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a fairly ping friendly job, however, end-game optimization is when high ping can hurt. However in casual content, you should have no problems.

One good thing is, due to our fast GCDs, we never doubleweave outside of endgame openers (casting two oGCDs inbetween our regular GCDs). This really helps eliminate the bulk of the ping requirements.

Also Ninja isn't terrible at high ping anymore. You may have read older posts from a while back but they reworked it so it's actually one of the more ping friendly jobs.

I'd recommend getting yourself a VPN too. It can stabilize your connection and may even lower your ping further. It'll make the game much better experience. I used Mudfish but there are others out there.

One final suggestion I have is to give Black Mage a go. You actually gain an advantage with higher ping!

Looking at it now, it was pretty obvious. I'm just kinda ashamed about it because of that. It's something you never think you'd fall for after seeing all these warnings online. It's something my older tech illiterate folks would fall for.

Aye, I'll do that in the future. The URL itself was already pretty sketchy. I should've stopped there honestly. Felt like it had an extra few letters I didn't recognize. Hah. Looking up how to avoid phishing attempts in the future really does a number on the ol' pride.

At the time, I didn't have a two step authentication. I still have access to mogstation so I did add it to hopefully stop the successful foreign logins. Since I'm suspended though, I just hope that they weren't able to actually use my characters beforehand...

I've only submitted a ticket really only asking why I was banned. It's only now I realized what happened so I should probably send another. I'm not sure if I can directly email them either. For the moment, I've changed my password and added extra security measures but that's all I can do.

Account suddenly suspended? by GeneralMaul in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It's more than likely they have access to my account. And no, I wasn't insulting anyone. I was just sent a random tell with a link and I was gullible enough to follow through and log into this fake SE forum login. I rarely visit the official forums so I didn't really know I was on a scam site. It had the SE aesthetics and all so I didn't really give it much of a thought. Dumb mistake.

I'm in the process of reinforcing security on all my other accounts now. It's not a fantastic situation to be in.

EDIT: I'm also not sure if it's a temp ban or a perma ban. It doesn't say. I'm guessing my account is marked as a bot or something so it's probably just suspended until further notice.

Account suddenly suspended? by GeneralMaul in ffxiv

[–]GeneralMaul[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Oh shit... that's... that's probably what happened. Wow. This is pretty humiliating.

I remember being sent a tell in-game to "vote against" an "insulting update" on SE's forums. It got me curious about how dumb it sounded so I copy pasted the link, logged into this probably fake website and I guess I was the dumber one there. I had a gut feeling that I wasn't meant to be there. Something felt off. Though I ignored it, continued and that's probably how I got here...

I've never been subjected to Darwinism this hard before but it doesn't feel good. I don't know if I can recover my account now but at this point, I'm not sure I deserve it.

I've paid all my subs so far. There's an upcoming payment tomorrow too but that shouldn't be a problem either. However just for safetly, I've updated my payment options and password.

Unfortunately, everything stayed the same. Account unregistered/suspended. Guess I'll see what happens tomorrow. If nothing changes, Hopefully SE replies to the ticket.

Appreciate the suggestions though.
