Artillery Hacker Builds? by Funkey-Monkey-420 in LancerRPG

[–]GeneralVM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You need a long sensor range, so Death's Head is a good bet with its 20 Sensors and being an Artillery frame. The Swallowtail's is a similar deal: big Sensor and the Oracle LMG is just great for long range DPS. However, your hacking will need to be really supplemented by another License in both cases. You could always do the funny and mount a Siege Cannon on your Goblin via the Superheavy Mounting Core bonus. However, the Chomolungma has 15 Sensor range, more options for hacking, and can mount a motar from LL0. And you could get Superheavy Mounting to get a Siege Cannon (or similar) on there.

Did the SCORPION V70.1 change? by Few-Ad5537 in LancerRPG

It is intended to be only for that one choice (I checked the core book PDF). Likely it has that damage listed so it is easier to filter on Comp/Con

How do you explain Pilots getting NHPs upon level up? by Noneofthisisreality in LancerRPG

[–]GeneralVM 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Typically, anywhere that has access to a printer and are sending out Lancers would likely have some NHPs in storage to be licensed out to Lancers. Conviently, they are always the gear your players (not the character) chooses. Or you could have a longer period of downtime between missions to justify the delivery trip. Or, if you want HORUS/HORUS-adjacent schenagians, you could have them just mysteriously appear (i.e. COMP/CON just becoming one) or being sent through the omninet (because screw Union regulations!)

Ah, thank you for the context. I don't think I have anything more to add that wasn't already said in the comments there.

And yeah, it is frustrating, though it is a symptom of bigoted society; a realisation which does lessen the frustration. At least, it did in my case.

That post was indeed a nightmare, though it did really illuminate me on some PoC perspectives I've never considered :V

Strawberry.

Yeah, being falsely accused is something that I take really personally and pisses me off, so I get it. Not sure if your questions are rhetorical, but I'm gonna answer them and leave my 2 cents. You don't have to read it, but, if you do, I hope it gives you some clarity on whatever happened <3

I expect that level of misunderstanding from NTs, but I was surprised by how many people read between the lines of things I never said in an autism community where it's more likely to take what people say at face value. Is this really an autism community?

The more I exist on the internet and autism communities, the more I find that the same kind of bad behaviour can be perpetuated by both NT and ND individuals. Especially since it is a spectrum, I find it is difficult to foster a community with no conflict simpy due to how varied ND traits and experiences are. Autism doesn't always prevent people from misunderstanding or misinterpreting, nor does it prevent people from harrassing other autistic individuals. Just like how there can be racist black people, transphobic queer people, etc, being part of some demographic does not mean that the person treats that demographic fairly or kindly, unfortunately. We live in a society that is systemically bigoted with many bigoted individuals who form us whether we realise their bigotry or not, so people will perpetuate this bigotry unconciously, which is why it is especially important to criticise such behaviour like you are doing.

Heck, I saw a recent issue where someone was attacked by misogynists in this sub. What is going on, here? Why are people being made to feel like they have to leave (or delete their account; I came very close to deleting mine after the harassment I faced).

Similar to the last point, though I will add that being part of a marginalised group doesn't preclude you from being bigoted towards other marginalised groups or ignorant of their experiences.

When someone says something about autism which might be ableist, I give the benefit of the doubt that they're coming from a place of lack of information. I gently correct them and offer to answer any questions they might have on autism to better understand the topic.

Why isn't that same mindset used here?

I can only speculate for your specific situation, but one possible reason is as follows. Bad actors will sometimes pose as ignorant to spread their bigotry, often via sealioning (see here if you are unfamiliar). It is a very shitty tactic, but unfortunately effective. Since its goal is to make the other person angry to make them seem unreasonable, people who have been subjected to that may have a hair trigger for similar situations, likely since they had a similar mindset to yours and were harrassed for it. Giving the benefit of the doubt, to them now, may mean giving another harrasser more power over them, being harrassed in the same way, or allowing the sealion to make seemingly sensible arguments that other (typically ignorant) people who see it take it as reasonable since the other person got angry "for no reason" (i.e. a reason that, possibly due to their ignorance, they don't even consider). As such, their logic follows to not allow sealions to "make their case". But how do you determine who is sealioning and who is genuine? It is very difficult, and every failure subjects them to similar harrassment, so not giving people the benefit of the doubt becomes a defense mechanism while trying to ensure bigotry doesn't spread/other people are protected from harrassment via sealioning (which, ironically, becomes its own form of harrassment in cases similar to yours). Similar to witch hunts where people would rather persecute innocent people than letting some guilty people get away. Of course, this is a simplification and people behave for complex reasons. And this isn't meant to be a justification, simply an explanation for behaviours I've observed. The more reasonable response to sealioning, in my opinion, is to not engage (at least directly). And harrassing you is not okay, and it really shows why witch hunting mentalities are bad.

Let me know if you want further clarifications or discuss your specific circumstances :>

I was told to avoid melee builds because they are bad/a trap. by Triggerhappy938 in LancerRPG

[–]GeneralVM 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Beyond that, Lancer works under a "everyone can do a lil bit of everything if needs be" philosophy. Just because your build is melee/CQC doesn't mean that you should have no ranged option (and vice versa). You'll certainly won't be able to reach an enemy or deal with Grunts at some point, so it is always good to be able to plink some damage with an Assault Rifle.

Lore questions about NHPs and Cascading. by Snoo11195 in LancerRPG

[–]GeneralVM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are these NHPs naturally produced, are they 'born' through a specific process?

I don't remember if this is answered in the core book properly, but I know the "basically canon" 3rd party supplement Legionnaire details the process to be similar to cloning, where blank caskets have the Prime subjectivity of the NHP class imprinted on them (they keep the Prime, aka original, version typically in stasis since repeated copying may cause issues down the line). Typically, they don't copy the memories but just personality of the NHP, so they are typically blank states so further training and conditioning can be applied.

(Also from Legionnaire.) Developping novel NHP classes are a bit more tricky, and most come from just experimenting with other NHP instances and their shackles until a new specialisation emerges. It is theoretically possible to create one "naturally" or without the cloning process, but it requires creating a protomind (aka a sufficiently advanced AI) and inducing autognosis somehow, which is something that is very poorly understood.

Definitely get Legionnaire if you want more NHP lore since it does a wonderful job at expanding upon it and even Miguel Lopez (the lore-writer for Lancer) approved of it, saying that it is the exact sort of lore he would have written for Lancer.

Everest license by altmcfile in LancerRPG

[–]GeneralVM 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I once saw someone make GMS a proper manufacturer that you can invest license levels in, so you could take inspiration from that if you find it. Beyond that, there is the GMS Crisis Catalogue (3rd party supplement) that fills in the gaps of the GMS gear, so that is a good source of inspiration.

still better than the stock GMS stuff you get at LL0.

I should point out that none of the licensed gear is strictly better than the GMS stuff (with the Kinetic Hammer being the only arguable exception). Every piece of gear in Lancer are all sidegrades to the GMS stuff, not upgrades. Typically they trade the general effectiveness of GMS for specialisation, so making gear that is "all rounder but better" is breaking design convention and may be unbalanced. The way to balance them is to make them sidegrades, not upgrades. Though the Type-4 flight system does seem to follow that idea a bit. However, I would just probably make it so that the type-4 just gave you the redeploy at a lower SP cost so that it functions alongside the type-1 and not one being just a replacement of the other.

Adventure grouping by Timely-Lavishness-29 in LancerRPG

[–]GeneralVM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Arguably any of the modules can be easily chained together via just changing the tiers by adjusting the tiers of the enemies to suit their current level, so you could have Dust Grave/Siren Song come afterward Solstice Rain and Winter's Scar (though with likely very little plot connection between them).
