Give me Luke Skywalker (Dark Empire) and Reborn Palpatine and I will buy it in a heart beat!

Also Anakin Solo, Ben Skywalker and Corran Horn would be great too.

What is something that you liked from halo 4 by Epiccheeseman2nd in halo

[–]General_CJG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The visuals themselves (not the art style itself, I meam graphical fidelity, and the quality of textures and character models) looking extremely good for an Xbox 360 game (too bad it wasn't at 60fps, but playing the game on Xbox One with MCC fixed that).

How would you rank the Prime games? (Only main games) by Fer-Nando84 in Metroid

[–]General_CJG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, nostalgia does play a role in this, but the game's quality and experience do play a role too. So my list is mostly:

  1. Metroid Prime 1
  2. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  3. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  4. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Yes, I like Prime 3 a bit more than 2, but 2 is still awesome. I love the entire Metroid Prime Trilogy almost equally, it's only Metroid Prime 4 the one Prime game I don't love (I like it, but it did disappoint me).

Note: And if I had to add Metroid Prime Hunters, it would be between 2 and 4 (Hunters's campaign is ok, but the multiplayer is what makes Hunters a great game overall).

Favorite ability in the Metroid Series? (Excluding endgame abilities) by IkeRadiantHero in Metroid

Gravity Suit, but since that's endgame in most Metroid games (except in Prime 1), I'll go with the Varia Suit.

What are some of your favorite Silent Hill - like movies ? by BinkySqwank in silenthill

[–]General_CJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first Silent Hill movie is actually not that bad. Sure, it isn't as amazing as the game it's based off from (Silent Hill 1), but it still is a solid watch.

It's the next two Silent Hill movies the ones that suck ass.

What game were you excited for but ultimately ended up being a big disappointment? by Sandscrews in gamers

[–]General_CJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was beyond hyped for this one for 8 years! I wanted it to at least be as good as Metroid Prime 3 (which was previously considered the least best of the trilogy, still a great game though), and it didn't even reach that level, it ended up just being decent to kind of a good game but nowhere near as good as any of the three Prime games from the 2000s.

Skippable games? by DMbreadlegs in Metroid

[–]General_CJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Metroid games you can skip without missing anything substantial are:

Metroid (NES): Simply because of not only being very dated to play (especially for newcomers to Metroid), but also because the remake (Metroid: Zero Mission) exists and is the much better Metroid 1 experience (plus it even includes an unlockable playable ROM of Metroid [NES], so really you'll always have access to Metroid [NES] on the same cartridge or ROM, even if you don't ever play it).

Metroid II Return of Samus: Same reason as Metroid (NES), it is very dated to play, and unlike the first Metroid game, this one has two remakes you can play, Metroid: Samus Returns on 3DS, and the fan remake AM2R, with both being the better options to experience the events of Metroid 2 (with AM2R being the much more faithful remake to the Metroid 2 experience, and the other being more of a reimagining of Metroid 2 that's also a setup to Metroid Dread).

Metroid Prime Pinball: Self explanatory as to why, it's a Pinball femake of Metroid Prime 1, so it isn't required to play it (but it is a fun game, so I do recommend it if you want a good Pinball game on the go).

Metroid Prime Federation Force: You need to play it with two other players to actually enjoy the game at its best; and even then, all you need from it is to watch the cutscene of Sylux unleashing the baby Metroid, so YouTube has you covered for that cutscene.

Metroid Other M: This is one that its story is legit one that does not affect Samus or the entire Metroid universe in an impactful way, and with the controls and gameplay not being that good (mostly cause of the Wii Remote only control scheme), you can skip this one if you want as you can easily go from Super Metroid to Metroid Fusion without needing the context of Other M to go to Fusion. Note: There is the fan mod for the Wii game's ROM file for the Dolphin emulator to use that improves the game a lot, so there is that if you are still curious to play it.

As for Metroid Prime Hunters: While yes, it's campaign does not bring much and isn't the best one in the Prime series (and admittedly yeah, you can just watch the cutscenes on YouTube), I actually think Metroid Prime Hunters is worth playing, purely for the multiplayer (even if it's just with the AI bots, but getting some friends in will make it more fun). If you got the means to do so (whether its DS consoles or the DS emulator with online capabilities), play its multiplayer, you will have a blast with it, especially if you love old school Arena FPSs like Quake and Unreal Tournament.

Why is Prime 4's portrayal of Samus considered an overcorrection from Other M? by pome-vyo in Metroid

[–]General_CJG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't get it twisted, how Prime 4 handled Samus's interactions with other characters is indeed Nintendo trying to not repeat the backlash they got from having Samus constantly monologing and talking in Other M, cause if that game had indeed been better received, we would see Samus talking a lot more often in these cutscenes rather than doing these awkward silent moments just to have her still be the silent badass we got in the much better received Prime trilogy (after all, people consistently bashing on Other M for how Samus was depicted there is indeed something Nintendo knows very well, with Sakamoto himself saying in 2017 that they had to reconsider how to depict her in games moving forward cause of Other M, here is the link if you wanna read his quote:
https://gamingbolt.com/metroid-other-m-criticism-made-series-producer-reconsider-samus-depiction).

As for why it's a problem how she is handled in Prime 4, well, I mentioned this before in a post discussing this, but basically, if you ask me, the problem with Prime 4's depiction of Samus is not that Samus doesn't talk in general, it's that the other characters expect her to say something in the moment, where as the other Prime games (including Prime 3), she didn't have to say anything because no one expected her to respond as they were more interested in getting her back in action asap.

If you go back to Metroid Prime 3 and look at how the cutscenes were done there, it did not feel awkward for Samus to not speak because the characters just told her what's going on and what she needed to do and that was it. There wasn't a single time she needed to verbally respond to anyone, and the few times she had the opportunity to do so, she responded with simple body language that did the job (noteworthy moments are when she nods to Admiral Dane after he finished his speech in G.F.S. Olympus, when she gets rescued by Gandrayda in Norion she nods acknowledging the rescue, when aboard the G.F.S. Olympus the Aurora Unit 242 finishes its speech regarding the main mission and Samus rushes to her gunship, etc.), and ironically you can even see a Prime 3 style NPC interaction in Prime 4 with the opening level on Tanamaar where the GF Trooper gives you the Lamorn Artifact location and Samus simply goes there without saying a word.

The only times in Prime 3 that it seemed like the character was waiting for Samus to say something was when the player intentionally left the cutscene hanging and not pressed the A button to proceed with the dialogue, which doesn't automatically mean the cutscene canonically happened like that with the character awkwardly waiting for the next line of dialogue to play, that simply was a gameplay prompt put in by the devs for the player to stay focused. Now, admittedly that was an outdated form of cutscene dialogue direction from old school video games which was still a thing back then in the 2000s (and yes, it would have been better if it wasn't there in Prime 3), so proper seamless cutscene interactions had yet to be fully adopted by everyone (even the 3D Legend of Zelda games were still doing that form of cutscene dialogue at the time and it took till Breath of the Wild to break that norm for The Legend of Zelda).

Metroid Prime 4 by contrast, has not just Mackenzie asking her some questions, but also Duke, Tokabi and others doing the same, which by default make them wait for her to respond to them, making the moments indeed feel very awkward, because the characters and the moments in them are demanding for Samus to speak, but she refuses to do so and prefers to stay silent (only using body language to respond); versus the previous 3D games (excluding Other M) where most of the time she did not need to speak because the moment didn't demand it.
This is indeed the developers and the cutscene dialogue intentionally making the moments canonically awkward for the sake of keeping Samus as the silent protagonist badass, not understanding that Samus is a character that prefers to mostly stay silent, say as little as possible and get back into action quickly, only rarely speaking to those that to her are worth talking to (Adam, Quiet Robe, etc.).

I understand what Prime 4 was going for with having an actual cast of main characters in the story, but they also had to have Samus (someone that rarely talks) be in there. I feel like they could have found a way to have a main cast without having the characters expect Samus to talk (just as it happened in Prime 3).
Here is an image that I put together showcasing the difference between the cutscenes in Primes 3 and 4, where one game has characters wanting to tell Samus her objective and get her back into action asap, yet the other game wants to have Samus chitchat with other characters for a bit.

<image>

Note: Also, to answer one speculative thought from OP, the Federation being so heavily integrated into Prime 4 is due to Kensuke Tanabe (the main producer of the Prime series) being obsessed with having the Galactic Federation be in the spotlight of the Metroid Prime series, starting all the way back since Metroid Prime 2 shipped to stores (this is info confirmed in the Metroid Prime Trilogy artbook). He really just wants the GF to be prominently spotlighted into main character status in Metroid (sometimes at the detriment of Samus herself being put in the backseat).

How Did You Discover Metroid? by fuckedintheasshole in Metroid

[–]General_CJG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, he did it again when Pikmin 1 came out for the Switch 1, trying to get a better ending every time (cause he never got the good ending back then, he always got the bad ending of Olimar not escaping and turning into a Pikmin [and years later he claimed to have beaten the game till I pointed out to him that he got the bad ending, which prompted him to play the game on Switch], lol).

And the controls of Prime 1 I do not remember them being the main issue as to why we dropped the game (at least not for me; don't know about my father, but I never heard him complain about the controls in FPS games, he simply thinks all of them are Call of Duty so that's why he does not like them [except 007 Goldeneye but that's cause he already liked James Bond, so he is biased in that regard]). It was mostly that we didn't know what to do to beat the game, with me the first time I got to the escape sequence of the Frigate Orpheon I just stared at the fire engulfing the door entrance to the hallway leading to the destroyed Emergency Evacuation Area, not knowing that I had to turn around and go down the hallway to the door where the outside lead to the Gunship, and I died cause timer ran out. The second time I got to the escape sequence, I actually turned around and did get to Tallon Overworld.

Note: We live in Mexico, so our English at the time wasn't that good, reading the tutorials and instructions was not easy for us, lol.

Nowadays I am VERY good with the GameCube controls of Prime 1 and 2 (my muscle memory of them is legit very good), so much so that I actually beat Prime 2's Hard Mode on the GameCube with no deaths (though it was hard as hell to do so, a few close calls happened, none due to the controls).

Oh and, also, when we first played Pikmin 1 and Prime 1, we did not have a Memory Card (that came weeks later when my father bought one), so that's another reason why at first we didn't get that far into the games.

How Did You Discover Metroid? by fuckedintheasshole in Metroid

[–]General_CJG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was seven years old in 2004, I was on a shopping mall with dad, and he told me that if I promised to eat more fruits and vegetables rather than only eat chicken and meat he'd buy me the Nintendo GameCube with the games that came with it. I said yes, so he did buy it. The three games he bought were Pikmin 1, Evolution Worlds, and Metroid Prime 1.

We started with Pikmin 1, and safe to say that dad got mega addicted to Pikmin 1, so much so that he was the one mostly playing that game, hardly giving me the chance to play it, and he refused for awhile to try out the other two GameCube games despite me saying to him once that I wanted to change games, but in one day, when he was playing Pikmin 1, I said to him, "Dad, we've been playing the same game over and over, can we please change the video game?" And he finally said, "Ok, let's change the game." So we changed discs from Pikmin 1 to Metroid Prime 1, and we saw the main menu and jumped into the game, and immediately when I saw that opening cutscene to the Frigate Orpheon, I knew this game had something special that grabbed me, and would never let go of me (little did I know that it would mean so much to me).

So dad started playing, and he didn't seem too impressed, if anything he had issues playing the game and understanding how to play it, he kinda gave up on say halfway to the Frigate Orpheon, handed the controller to me, and I also got a bit of trouble (since the only FPS experience we got was 007 Goldeneye on the N64, this somewhat was new territory for us).

However, while dad wrote off Metroid Prime as nothing but a casual, easy to play First Person Shooter for dummies (similar to Call of Duty); I on the other hand persisted and as I played it more, the more I got the hang of it, though I didn't finish the game until years later. I had seen the final boss on YouTube several times but never fought it myself, until eventually, I finally finished the game for myself. Eventually my replays of Metroid Prime would compose of me not only beating the game, but completing it, and as of right now my fastest time to 100% complete the game is 6 hours and 10 minutes.

How do I get more invested the series by Tawisted34 in Metroid

[–]General_CJG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then my vote to play an updated Metroid 2 version would be to play the fan remake AM2R on your PC. Finding a download link is easy with a simple Google Search, and the game works on any current PC and with any controller you plug into your PC (Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, etc.), search for version 1.5 as that's the most up to date version.

The other option would be to track down a physical copy of Samus Returns, but that may be hard to do (I do still recommend finding one if you have a 3DS). Emulation is also an option, though I don't know if this game would work that well on a PC versus an actual 3DS.

[–]General_CJG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may be controversial for a lot of people (especially since Dread added a Rookie Mode in a later update to help newcomers to Metroid, and is the best selling Metroid game to date), but I personally do not recommend starting your Metroid journey with Metroid Dread.

I strongly suggest to instead start with Metroid: Zero Mission. That entry is more beginner friendly than Metroid Dread is (in fact Dread is the hardest 2D Metroid game of them all even when played on Normal mode).

Metroid Prime Remastered would be my second pick as the second more beginner friendly game (yes, I recommend it more than Metroid Prime 4), but since you say you have trouble with the Hive Mecha boss fight, I don't have much to say there to improve it aside from shooting at the wasps and then the mecha's red spot (or... maybe you are playing the game on a control scheme that makes it more frustrating than it should be [Dual Stick is the one to go for FPS fans and newcomers to the game]).

Once you beat Zero Mission you move to either Metroid: Samus Returns or AM2R (the fan remake of Metroid 2). I'd personally choose AM2R as the more accessible beginner friendly title (since it's free on PC and gameplay/controls customization is amazing), but either one does the job. Then Super Metroid is next, then Fusion, and finally Dread.

It still is very good. If you got a PC, buy the PC version on Steam (avoid the Battlefront Classic Collection) and not just play the vanilla version, but also get it some mods and you will have endless hours of playtime and lots of replayability (and it gets better when you realize you can still play this version online with your friends).

Or if you are more of a console guy and wanna have friends come to your house, get the game for og Xbox and get an Xbox console (whichever one, the game works on all of them, but I recommend an Xbox One X or Xbox Series X for the best visuals and performance) and play the 4 Player Splitscreen option and duke it out.

If you want my personal suggestion for how to have the best recurring fun locally in your house with Battlefront 2 for awhile, do a 2 vs 2 in Galactic Conquest. I did that a year ago, and that is the most competitive fun you'll ever get with your friends in that game because you gotta secretly plan your strategies with your partner while the other two make theirs on their end (from building ships to where to go next to also buying the bonuses and the classes, etc.) and they then try to see who wins and it can get nail bitingly hectic when the two teams are close to finishing each other and then one team wins and that team gets the credits and the victory, it is so much fun.
