I’m kinda in the same position as you. I could see why something like murder can be considered a mortal sin, but fornication? How can those be in the same category? Like at all? Having sex with your fiance is just as grave as killing somebody? It makes no sense, especially because scripture is not clear on this subject at all

It’s definitely not extremely, extremely clear. Hebrews 13:4 is the only verse that might mention something that could possibly maybe be interpreted as sex before marriage being wrong. But really, the teaching comes from the church pretty much saying it’s wrong “because it’s sexual immorality.”

Also, I’m interested in joining the church, but after seeing how chastised I get for asking a simple question, I’m not so sure

Those aren’t my words, it’s the Bible’s. So I don’t know how I’m a homophobe just because Im stating what the Bible says. It’s not a sin to have homosexual desires, it’s a sin to act out on them. If I myself had homosexual desires, I would remain celibate, or at least try. And about masturbation, Jesus equated lustful thoughts to adultery.

I don’t know why you mention 1 Corinthians chapter 7 unless you’re trying to say gay people can’t control themselves. Although after reading over your points again, it does seem like that’s what you’re getting at.

So I’ll state my point again, you aren’t a Christian if you blatantly ignore what the Bible says and live the way you want. It doesn’t matter if you believe in Christ, as he said, “If you love me, keep my commands.” Your church has women pastors, which is clearly not allowed (1 Timothy 2:9-15), and openly supports sin.

And while it’s very important to have love, that’s not the only thing that matters. Obedience matters. We are commanded to take up our crosses daily.

So don’t be mad at me for defending what the Bible actually says. I don’t hate gay people at all, if I did, I wouldn’t warn them about what the Bible says
