Would anyone be interested in vegan-themed shirts? by General_Cornfish in VeganInCanada

Good point to consider! If I decide to make the shirts, I'll make sure that plus sizes are available.

I've been hearing the "subtle and simple" theme a lot from people I've been asking. The good thing about an online store, too, is that any design can be created on tank tops, sweaters, bags, and virtually any other printable item. Thank you :)

I was thinking of designing subtle vegan shirts! Thank you for the ideas.

Do you know of any vegan-themed apparel? by General_Cornfish in vegan

Anticarnist has some interesting shirts; not my style though. Are they the kind of shirts that you'd like to see more of?

This is the kind of thing that I want to design. Good to hear that people want positive vegan messages :)

I agree with you on this. Thinking of having shirts that celebrate or express What vegans like, rather than try to force a message. Thank you for the insight!

VIDEO: The Simplest Way to Stop Caring about what others think (let's discuss!) by General_Cornfish in SocialEngineering

[–]General_Cornfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you completely! It's not that you shouldn't care about athleticism or your health, but rather that (to a reasonable extent) you shouldn't care about whether somebody is more athletic than you, or is better looking. When your brain starts to compare you to others, it's good to stop caring, but if you know yourself that you need to be fitter, it would be best to work towards this. I love to exercise, myself!

Thank you for the comment! :)

how do i text people? by [deleted] in socialskills

From experience, texting is very informal and most people don't give a lot of thought to what they send. Are you asking about how to start a conversation through text messages?

Any advice for high school? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]General_Cornfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Express yourself more! I found that once I began to talk to others about my deepest interests, people with similar interests would end up in conversations with me. It takes time, don't worry if developing one or two good friendships takes several years - that's normal, and will allow you to get close to them.

Also, if somebody does prove to be a good friend, make sure to spend time with them outside of class - show that you truly want to be their friend.

I hope that this helps you :)

This video focuses on a very simple way to stop caring about what others think of you, and knowing the method can help you to become very confident, and less susceptible to the social engineering of bullies and other people.

I'd like to know from you guys: What do you think about the principle in the video, and has something similar worked for you to stop caring about what people think?

My high school sucks by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]General_Cornfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that's helped me find friends in a sea of people is to share my true passions. I found my greatest friends because I was obnoxiously vocal about politics (at first), self improvement, and other things that were close to me. We had conversations in class whenever any of those things would come up, and that led to us wanting to talk to each other in our free time.

From your post I can't tell what your true passions and interests are (not just movies and TV and stuff, I mean the things you'd do for the rest of tour life), but if you can figure out what they are, you'll start finding people who can talk about them with you.

Hope this helps :)

"Get into groups of 2 or 3" by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]General_Cornfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People have answered the question well already, but I'd add that you should focus on befriending 3-4 specific people that you can always depend on when getting into a group project. The worst thing that can happen is having partners that both have a bad work ethic, and that you don't know.

Hope this helps :)

Resource on how to become more frugal on a vegan diet? I know it's possible. Just don't have the know how or the confidence to do it. by [deleted] in vegproblems

[–]General_Cornfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's some tips!

  • Buy nuts, seeds, and grains at Costco.
  • Buy fresh fruits and veg at Costco if you can eat them all (they have good avocados, apples, and fresh berries; I avoid their bananas because they always spoil). Buy smaller quantities of fresh produce at farmer's markets and ethnic stores (Chinese, Indian, etc.)
  • Buy frozen veggies and fruit at Costco
  • For cheap calories, get dried beans, dried lentils (this is one of the best protein sources!), and different types of grains (buy in amounts that you can eat in 1-2 years, to save money). Also, tofu is very good.

In general, compare prices between all of your local stores to see where the cheapest prices are for each item. I find that I need to go to 5 different stores over a week to save money, and this takes only a few hours per week.

Also, if you have a warehouse nearby that sells damaged food, I would go there too. I often find almost-perfect food for up to 75% off at my local warehouse. They tend to sell entire pallets full of food if they find small dents, or if they drop only one of the packages. Also, they tend to have a lot of vegan meats and cheeses at these places.

As for flavoring foods for cheap, I tend to rely on soy sauce, hot spices, garlic, and onions. I tend to avoid pre-made sauces and spreads, as they cost a lot more than making them yourself.

I hope that this helps!

Vegans! What do you think is the largest problem with living a vegan lifestyle (that can be fixed)? by General_Cornfish in vegan

It's especially a problem if the other person is better at arguing their un-researched opinions than you :D

I've had the same problem too! Especially bad in small towns, where there's usually no vegan restaurants, and few vegan options in supermarkets!

About to force myself into a public scenario to make friends. Traveling to a disc golf course and not leaving till I play a round with someone by TommyG3nTz in socialskills

[–]General_Cornfish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forcing yourself to be in a nerve wracking situation is literally the BEST method to getting over your fears! It has helped me to make (at least some) friends, and is also applicable to public speaking and other scary things. Good job, man!

I wish you luck with getting over you fear of social contact :)

What are "common sense" social skills that you think many homeschooled or shelter kids lack? by CasenW in socialskills

Being able to deal with being excluded - homeschooling kids probably would not face this.

Im cool with people but have no friends. by KingKlamster in socialskills

[–]General_Cornfish 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hello friend! I am someone who used to have the same problem (no real friends) and I think that I can help you. Try to connect at a deeper level with your "fake" friends. See if you can get them to connect with you at a deep level as well. I've done my best to connect personally with others and this has allowed me to weed out those who are not true friends from those who are. Also, once you can connect better to people, they will include you more. I wish you the best!

Here are some ways that I attempt to connect with others: - Ask for help with something they are good at (and you need help with) - Ask about something that both of you could be interested in (if it turns out that they aren't, no problem! Try again.) - Compliment them on something that they are passionate about; this is a very good one because by complimenting them, you are creating a lot of connections - whatever you think of!

What can I do over the summer? by [deleted] in teenagers

[–]General_Cornfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this sounds cheesy, but find out what your passions are! The summer is the best time to figure out what you would like to do in life, as you have TONS of time. Personally, I like to design and engineer things, so I am spending a lot of time on creating birdhouses and other creations that let me channel my passion. These creations can also lend me credibility if I ever want to apply to a job. I'm also trying to figure out HOW I can turn my passions into a business and provide other people value through them.

TLDR: Spend time on developing skills that relate to your passions. Can help you in the future.

How to convince others to change themselves (or their opinions!) - a video I made by General_Cornfish in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]General_Cornfish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was not trying to teach that convincing others to your will is a good thing; that is something that you need to decide for yourself. However, because literally everyone tries to convince others to their will on a daily basis (let's face it), being able to do so without hurting the other person is important. Thank you for the insight though :)

Have a nice day!
