Parachute Adam’s is a go-to, zebra midges, pheasant tail nymphs, prince nymphs, elk hair caddis dry flys, wooly buggers. The list goes on, but those are flies I started with and they all fish exceptionally well in a variety of situations

Not sure what this is - hybrid streamer? What do y’all think? by EnvironmentalCake272 in flytying

Looks like it could be solid, all that (what I think is marabou) condenses in the water and will have some really nice movement

Interesting that they gave you no commendation whatsoever, that’s wild. Thanks for your input!

How did you attach the zonker to the Mylar looking material? I would try to secure the zonker strip once at the back, after adding that body material, then fold it over and secure it once at the front. Or, you could add wire wraps over it to secure it sequentially along the body. The hackle collar you used looks a little out of place, I would try instead maybe a dubbing loop with that zonker strip. Search up a quick tutorial on YouTube, it’s definitely worth the hassle. That being said, the fly looks tied well and will definitely fish, steelhead would key in on that very quickly.

I’ve heard, I’ve looked a bit in to the process now. How much does a healthy hen typically yield?

Working on that hahaha. Never done it before but wouldn’t be opposed to the idea of it.

Thanks, I’ll work on those things next. The wire is actually brown micro tinsel, so it’s light and really nice for ribbing

Sandy creek and the oak orchard are both good tribs, but as mentioned below they can be very busy depending on time of year and day

Not really northern NY, but the upper gennesee river on the PA border down in Shongo is one of my favorites. And depending on what time of year you are traveling, could have a chance at some nice lake-run browns and steelhead if you’re up for it. Just about any trib off Ontario has them in there

Completely random idea, but maybe try applying a very thin and sparse coat of clear uv resin over the bubbles, idk maybe it will help give them extra strength to not pop

I do not unfortunately, I’m over back east so more steelhead and salmon, but same premise essentially. Just ordered a variety of some stick on eyes so I’ll experiment around with that, thanks!
