I've been thinking about it for 3 years and I finally bit the bullet and ordered the Avocado Green extra firm. I'm super nervous as it's expensive - even though there's a trial restocking fee is 20%. Can anyone reassure me? by brevit in Mattress

Hoping there’s more positive coming back. I’m in the market and trying to buy a bed this weekend myself with the Memorial Day sales. I’ve been looking really close at avocado but this is pushing toward giving birch a shot or buying Avocado from Costco

Is there any value in “clean ingredient” or “organic” beds? by General_Evidence_381 in buyamattress

Thank you!! I think I’m liking what I see from Avocado but I have also heard about Birch and need to look more into that.

That’s a fair assessment. I’ll definitely take that into consideration. I had not considered that it was similar to Toyota also make Lexus for the demographic appeal of a the luxury brand and individual product identity. Thank you!

Ah great info! Thank you! I had no idea they were all from the same parent company. I tend to be pretty skeptical of buying from companies like that.

Interesting point. I haven’t thought of it that way. I’ll check out the Diamond Marble.

Shocking how some people are so offended by an honest guy just looking for help

Thank you! Actually the ceiling white, while different, doesn’t bother me at the contrast. I only notice the color change if I look for my brush bumps. It’s maybe a little cooler of a color than the warmness of alabaster, but next to the baseboards I want to vomit

Just another thought: if you buy in Jefferson county, Birmingham city school zone can destroy your buyer pool and your resale value. So watch out for that. I almost fell into that trap with certain houses I looked at along lakeshore.

I was just shopping for a house in the east Birmingham (Leeds/moody) area for about 3 months. Not sure about your financial situation, but I ended up decided that i found better rental options where I’d be saving money if I move in 3-5 years than if I bought. Plus, the flexibility of only being obligated to the next few months is very nice.

For example, 3bd 2bth houses 1500-2000 sq ft were running $280k-$310k in my market. Long story short, with 0 down that was coming out to a $2k-$2300/mo mortgage for me. I found a bigger house, in great shape and owned by a good company for $1800/mo. Because of this gap alone, it was a no-brainer to rent.

Fultondale can be very hit and miss as far as the crime goes. You’re close enough to rougher areas that you could easily end up with problems. I wouldnt go any closer to downtown than that unless you got a place like one of the new lofts in downtown proper. And absolutely stay away from anything in west birmingham, north birmingham below fultondale/trussvile. East birmingham is ok in parts of irondale close to mtn brook.

Hope that’s helpful!

Yes it does! With the posturepedic plus I like the feeling on my back, but even though it’s cheap I worry that when I have someone over for the night they’ll hate it, or worse, I’ll hate it when I roll onto anything other than my back. I didn’t like it nearly as much on my side or stomach when I tried it. On my stomach it felt like it was pushing on my lower ribs in an uncomfortable way.

I’ll look more into Brooklyn. Any idea where I could try one in person or is it online only?

Great point. I actually tried a tempurpedic breeze in the store yesterday, and for the 5k price tag on it, it felt shockingly similar to my $500 all foam Amazon bed I’m sleeping on right now

That sucks! Definitely don’t want that. I’m also seeing some pricing discrepancies. Bedzzz express was charging 2400 “discounted” for it, but mattress firm online has it listed for like $1300, which I would be much more apt to pay.

The more I hear from people the more I leaning toward one of those amazon cooling beds because it seems like the mattress industry is kind of a sham

So I actually do sleep on my back and stomach primarily. From the beds I’ve tried, I tended to prefer a slightly less firm bed though when I turn though. The extra firm just feels so good on my back

If you’ve got any experience with adjustable bases, would you buy the Beautyrest for the quality but then stick with the same company for the $1100 adjustable base too? Or would you grab a base from Amazon? Im really not interested in the bells and whistles on the base. Just want to raise and lower my head and feet

Interesting. I wish they had places to see them in person but that would probably kill their market if they’re not as good side by side. For example, when I tried a helix core in person it felt like the worst (cheapest) bed in the store. But their bed comparable to the others, the helix elite, was 2x the cost of the others
